Suspect in theft pleads not guilty by reason of insanity

A hermaphrodite charged with theft, fraud and bond jumping pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity Monday.

Storme Shannon Aerison, 42, appeared before 4th Judicial District Judge Edward Colt, answering his questions with barely audible responses.

Her attorney, Karin Bagn, joined the hearing on a conference call.

Aerison, who according to court testimony was born with male and female genitalia and never had sex-assignment surgery, is being held in isolation at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center since being returned from the State Mental Hospital in Pueblo last month.
