Absolute holy crap! Yours is truly such a transition and on top of looking 100% like a woman (you look more female than most females!), you also have immaculate skin, great hair, an extremely harmonious face, and quite frankly, you look a model. (And I mean 'model' in a respectful sense, like a beautiful portrait, not in the sleezy porno sense - though hey, you could probably pull that off too.  ;) )

You're very lucky you needed no FFS - even in your male portrait, some features point to a good transition, such as how your forehead didn't have bossing (mine has it extremely bad), and how your chin, cheek, and forehead proportions are proportioned (none of them stuck out more than the other). However, I truly would not have guessed you'd have been able to transition as well as you did, and again, its truly wow. I'd also say you truly look so much more "you" and confident now!

Any tips you want to share when it comes to improving the skin? I have horrible skin myself and a couple of dermatologists are giving me the runaround, trying their hardest to make sure I don't achieve a female sense of beautiful skin. Any first steps on what one should take in that route? And again, it looks like your hard work paid off so wonderfully.

most people don't need FFS. Many think it is the answer for all their problems but they dont stop and think they may not need it!

This was me just two years ago:

everything started with wanting to erase the freckles....i wanted a nice even complexion without having to wear foundation all the time.  I started with chemical peels.  The chemical peels got rid of the sun damaged skin from my youth but did little for the freckles.  Then I started with 6% skin bleach and on top of that, 1% retin a.  I discovered that the combination of bleach and retin a had my face peeling about every 3 days and new skin cells.  I moisturize with Neutrogena's healthy defense spf 50.  only drawback is that I must wear spf anything whenever I'm out in the sun because I will burn with the bleach and retin a.  When doing an eyebrow wax, i gotta stop about a week before. :)
I still do a chemical peel about every other month

same here, 1.5 years difference just 5 months pharmaceutical HRT and 2 years natural soy hormones. Even though I feel the need for FFS I am still amased when I look at these pictures. I was passed by last week by 2 very close friends at two different locations and wasn't recognized, no makeup, jeans and tshirt, baseball cap on, I mean, literally looking like my former self,  (not that I am trying that at all) they just passed by like no one ever remotely familiar :)

no, I cant say that I was proud to have served.  for me, my only reasons for enlisting were to try and prove to myself I was something I wasnt....a man.  the progression for me was sports in high school, 3 year enlistment in the army, then a 6 year enlistment in the marine corps....wasted time in hindsight.

Clarisonic!  Go buy one.  It was undoubtedly the best thing I ever did for my skin and I've done a lot (including laser rejuvenation).  Almost every member of my family now owns a Clarisonic and a lot of my friends, they are really that good.  I quit wearing makeup after I got mine.

It's a skin cleaning brush... they have one for the eyes too called the Opal that I also have, but I wouldn't recommend it compared to the Clarisonic.  The Opal is nice, but the Clarisonic is amazing http://www.clarisonic.com/ (http://www.clarisonic.com/)

WOW! looking at these pictures just amazes me. I guess my appearance might change more than I thought it would. Makes me pretty hopeful actually. I dont think I will need FFS, maybe some work dont to lower my hairline. But, I've even had one girl at work, whom I have had a crush on for a long time, tell me I dont need surgery, I look like a girl already. I think she was being polite personally.

Well it was time well wasted then. I went into the RAF myself. Sometimes I wonder if it was 'trying to prove myself' like you were, or trying to one-up my Dad, who was in the Army. Or maybe I felt like I had an obligation to the family. I come from a family with a lot of servicemen in it. Perhaps it was all of the above.

estrogen really redistributes fatty deposits around the face.  what looks like a strong jawline now or before will not look the same after some time on estrogen.  in re to skin maintenance, different treatments work for different people...for me, the combo of chemical peels, skin bleach and Retin A have done a miraculous job by creating new skin cell growth :)

positive reinforcement?

yes. Positive Reinforcement.

There are so many girls and guys who have such a bad self image of themselves that they think the only source of salvation is FFS.

I truly believe that some girls need FFS for whatever reason but there also girls who look for it for an emotional release to try to fix other issues they may be facing.

Positive reinforcement from other people to show them how beautiful they are can help.

Again this isn't a message against ffs. This is merely a statement for those girls who are very attractive but have such a poor bodily self image of themselves.

You and I have strangely similar head shapes, the whole pear thing, and the chin... It's rather uncanny. Curious how you feel about the chin. Personally I'm not a fan, but then again, plenty of people would wish for nothing more than to sit with such a terrible concern.

@ laurad....yes, I've been on HRT since February 2002.  Premarin and spironolactone for 7 months, then Delestrogen IM injection + medroxyprogesterone and Lupron Depot for 5 1/2 years and estrase since 2008.

Hi Jamie Nicole thanks for the quick response! Do you go through your doctor for this?

[edited to remove dosage info as per ToS - Padma]

Hi, just to remind y'all that posting dosages is not allowed on Susan's, for the following reasons (from our ToS):

8. The discussion of hormone replacement therapy(HRT) and it's medications are permitted, with the following limitations:

    A. Advocating for or against a specific medication or combinations of medications for personal gain is strictly prohibited.
    B. Discussing the means to acquire HRT medications without a prescription, and self medication without a doctors care is prohibited.
    C. Discussing dosages is strongly discouraged to prevent information obtained on this site from being used to self medicate.

We can not in good conscience condone the self administering of these medications. Not only may self medication be illegal, but HRT medications can cause serious health problems, and many have the potential for life-threatening side effects that can only be detected and prevented with proper medical supervision.

Some truly remarkable transitions here... I was wondering if any of you ladies are taking HRT? Im a bio women and I look very masculine!! Im desperately trying to figure out how to look more femme.

Wait be careful sweetie most women are only allowed estro for medical reasons because any born women has a super high risk that from 30+ to get breast cancer from adding extra estrogen into your body. Before i could start estro my doctor had to find records about breast cancer in my family. I wouldnt suggest estro because if your past puberty it wont help a born women look more feminine i suggest surgery its a safer rout if you dont like how you look'

Wow, a lot of wonderful transformations here...

it may just be me, but every time I see transition photos, the person always looks better as a woman. :-)

I am a work in progress, but I think I look better in my avatar than this, circa four years ago:

I look into cameras when other people take pictures, but I hate taking pictures of myself because I feel like an idiot and I'm ashamed to look into the camera.  Unfortunately, I don't have anyone else in my life to take pictures of me and so it's my only option!

You know what's really frightening?  You look A LOT like a friend of mine who told me, after I'd gone full time, that he wished he'd had the guts to transition and that he would have if not for his kids. :o  You look so much like him I had to check your profile to make sure you weren't. lol

Nope don't think I'm that person... You don't look familiar!

I've had a few people stop me on the street in the past and tell me that I look like someone they used to know. One person even stopped me and called me by my (old) name. It turns out that he went to school with someone who not only looked like the old me, but had the same first name. That one was a bit creepy!

I remember there was a thread like this long ago ( ~10 months ago)... To be honest girls, you are awesome.  So much inspiration from this thread.  I have definitely been slow in my transition; mainly because I have "the doubts" about passing.  But, this is inspiring.  To everyone that has posted, really, I have to say awesome transformations into the person you are on the outside to reflect the person you are on the inside.

Okay... I haven't participated in one of these threads for a while, so here goes.

This was last September:
(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1228.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee449%2FColleen_McT%2FSep1a.jpg&hash=cc50bd681d97e62f77e55641cf0b99cbf78e7001)

This was this month (at Toronto Pride):
(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1228.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee449%2FColleen_McT%2Fcolleen_pride.jpg&hash=fd5be5cd887cf09787b58c2eb689f1164658a0f8)

This shows my ACTUAL progress to date, since I'm not wearing makeup or breastforms (or bra).  At this point, I'm even, in certain situations, getting brave enough to forgo the wig!  The Rogaine is working its magic, and in a few weeks, I'm going for hair extensions.  I'll re-post then...

Oh, and in that first pic, I was TRYING to smile!

Aw, what the heck... a pic of my actual hair also (self-taken)...

SarahH,
Thanks so much for sharing your pictures. I've been struggling with beginning HRT due to worries about still not being able to pass. I know it's vain but I want to be viewed as female by the world. There is a potential big price for coming out and to pay that price and still not be able to live as female would be horrible. You have given me confidence that HRT can and does make a big difference. To me it's the face and high waist line that define the female shape. A nice firm bottom and breasts are lovely and I desire them but my face and male mid section are true give aways. Congrats to you!  Love, Rachael

Thanks Annah. There is no doubt about Jamie's beauty, I am in total agreement there. But I would take Annah's results in a heartbeat. Worry about HRT not really making a big enough difference is the main thing holding me back.  Rachael

I really like the pic of me when I was 16, because it's the first ever photo of me with a smile on my face - it's a school photo, and I deliberately took off my specs because I was about to get contacts for the first time and wanted to see how I'd look - but the smile was also because it being the 70's, I could get away with growing my hair long :D :D.

I'm about 4 months along in my transition, so not too much change I guess. But here is a before pic from a few years ago. it's unique in that its the only time I've ever been photographed with a goatee. ever.
(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi688.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fvv246%2FKeairaElisabeth%2F37848_409231946486_644296486_5167157_3125012_n.jpg&hash=5b5343a97814603f302fe855d21185be8f1fd2b4)(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi118.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo98%2FMiriTekker%2FHPIM1421.jpg&hash=d1ae4768a4f3cbdf5a23ee7c620842e2d382ea3b)

lilkitty,  yeah me too, I am in the process of losing weight, working on getting my skin softer with lotions and exfoliating scrubs. Last night I put on the first dress I had bought the other day and also hose and took a few snap shots of me from about the chest down and a some showing my legs in the hose with purple toe nails showing. My legs looked great and I loved ever minute that I had.

After: (16 months HRT & 1 month post-FFS)
Still swollen on the tip of the nose, and around the jaw and chin, but improving daily.  There's an inset on the profile from 1+ years HRT that hopefully explains why I felt FFS was necessary.

SarahH,
Thanks so much for sharing your pictures.

Hey Rachael, youre welcome, happy to give someone some confidence out there if I can!  Mind you, its got to be said that Im still riddled with paranoia about passing and getting along in life - personally I dont think I pass in the 2nd pic because of my hair and eyes - which I think we all experience at some time.  Bear in mind that HRT isnt a quick fix, its along process to work its magic, but itll get there in the end!

Amy, I think you pushed the boundaries on what is possible with the before and after...  Transformed from a handsome guy into an absolutely beautiful, glowing young lady.  Also, I think you had one of the best rhinoplasties I have ever seen, really jealous.

I dunno about that, but thank you. :)  I'm quite happy with the results so far!

You've done well, I'd be proud of those results if I were you!

Seeing all the changes that you all have been sharing on here is very emotional for me. I know how much my transition means to me, and I hope that all of you are on a much happier path in life as I am. There is nothing I like more than to see people finally living their dreams and being true to themselves. :-)

@Annah

You and I have strangely similar head shapes, the whole pear thing, and the chin... It's rather uncanny. Curious how you feel about the chin. Personally I'm not a fan, but then again, plenty of people would wish for nothing more than to sit with such a terrible concern.

@Maddie

Your eyes... that's just not fair, way to cute!

@Zoe

You have me beat, but only just barely. :-*

to be honest, it doesn't bother me because I have seen a lot of cisgendered girls with that same feature with the chin :)

It does take time, measured in years, not days. At first I know it's hard to wait, it seems like it's taking forever. But starting hormones should help as it usually has a calming effect (I know I am MUCH calmer than I was before), so that helps.

This was the first thing I noticed too, that sense of calm.  I used to have panic attacks accompanied by temporal lobe seizures that were triggered by small amounts of stress.  Since starting HRT, I haven't had a single one, and I juggled writing an honor's thesis, applying for grad school, working 30 hours a week, and taking another class all at the same time.  I pulled it off cool as a cucumber!

I've been on hormones now for seven months, barely enough for body changes, but the results on my face have been nothing short of astounding.  Some things really can happen fast! ;D

Totally cool thread!  Most people look amazing!

Many years on hormones have done respectable job with body and skin looks nice for my age.

...However old face looks like a "boy" or "boyish".

Oh yes, some things do happen fast. Six months in, my skin really started to change. The skin softens and gets clearer. My ex referred to my face appearing "glowy" and people started to notice (mind you, almost nobody knew I was on hormones until a year in). People would talk behind my back... "what happened to him? He looks... prettier."

Then comes fat redistribution, face fills out and makes a BIG difference... Then body fat starts appearing in more feminine places, sometimes very quickly if you can't control the carb cravings (sour gummy worms!)

Now I'm at the point where my arms, body and legs are very feminine... I actually have ARM FAT now, and actually have somewhat of a butt these days,  things I never had before!

The calmness was great because like you I had terrible panic attacks. Not anymore. :-)

In the first 3 months my skin really cleared up. I used to joke that i was 32 years old And still going through puberty.  but I have noticed that my body fat on my stomach has started to lessen. So much so that I can see my abs. Which is also wonderful to see. But my butt did get bigger too. Pre-HRT, I was a size 10/12. Now I'm a 14. It's been 5 months now and my breasts are definitely not man-boobs. But once I can get rid of the facial hair I am sure that will help with my appearance.

Hey I have  a waist again but still size 12 for pants and 18 for top.  Breasts are adequate and behind is minimal.

Hair never grew back and face ... well face is fine for a male.

I found some pics of me in boy mode, finally.  Not a major diff to be honest, besides longer hair and more makeup =P.  Looking at these now, I have to say I wasn't the straightest looking guy ever lol.  I'm not sure how I convinced people of that!

Boy mode being before or after HRT? Because if it's the former, you had some amaaaaazing facial features. :D Especially in the top right picture. Not surprised you turned out as pretty as you did.

I have always had a fairly girly face, but the absence of despair in my eyes proves those pics were post-HRT.  I'm guessing maybe 4 or 5 months into hormones?

I had to stay in boy-mode at work for over a year after starting HRT, so that's how those pics exist.  I found some of me even further along that have forced me to reconsider how well I passed as a guy there toward the end.  I was actually quite annoyed with how passable I was, or thought I was anyway.  All that annoyance for nothing :).
