This section of the forum should be smite free people.
If someone sounds off in this part of the forum and it upsets you personaly I feel that you should just put on your big girl panties and suck it up.
Smiting someone in the Arghhh forum is just petty.
The purpose of this section is, I was under the impression, to air out concerns and issue that anger us but still conform to the TOS, particularly rules 2, 10 and 15. Inappropriate smites are inappropriate all over the site, including this section. I feel that no part of this set of forums is, or should be, exempt from the TOS.
The primary mission of this site is support and I think anything that works against that mission needs to be excised. Let's not forget this and keep it in mind before we click on the Post button. If you cannot render an argument for a point without resorting to personal attacks or other logical fallacies then it's best you remain silent since what you are going to say probably won't help the discussion and might very well harm the site mission. Try to put yourself into your readers' minds before you post and edit the sections that you find could cause offense.
Let go of your anger and use kindness. You can still be firm and support what you want to say. It may be very tempting to "put someone in their place" but that goes against everything this sit is created for.
Use constructive criticism, not attacks and when you see such criticism don't assume it is an attack. Too many people misinterpret a person's statement of opinion as a personal attack when it isn't one. Let's not take things too personally.
Well I certainly can not agree with you on that one Em. (well the last paragraph is ok...)
If someone feels the need to vent, it would seem to me that this section of the forums should be a reasonable place to do so.
One can vent without being offensive and demeaning. That is what I took from Emelye's message. I agree with it. In my opinion, the "ARGHHH!" section should not be a zone where people can openly attack other people. I see it as a section to air out frustrations but it can be done with some tact.
If someone posts something offensive and disturbing in this section of the forums, I will smite. If someone posts something that is enlightening or something well deserved then I will applaud. Until that rule changes or until the Administration ends the Applaud/Smite in "ARGHHH!" I will continue to do so.....regardless if I am wearing little girl panties or big girl panties.
If anyone feels that I wrongly smited or applauded them, then I encourage them to take the issue to the administration. If I broke the ToS by smiting or applauding unnecessarily, then I will be more the willing to take the full brunt of my consequences.
I said nothing offensive if you read what I actually said.
The smites that were given to me hurt. Just so you and everyone that smited me today knows. Something done by you so casually. Hopefully, it made you feel better to reach out and smite instead of responding through discussion.
i've accumulated one smite the whole time i've been here. the reputation system really is nothing more than a dog and pony show sometimes. there's certain people who may give you an applaud, and it just is a nice surprise. every now and then you get some fools who smite you because they are not even on the same page as you. i just think whatever. smites really don't have any coordination with your authorization to be here, though sometimes they do...
I never smite "to get back" at someone. I only smite when I find a post sorely distasteful or mean spirited.
If you find a smite unjustified then I encourage you to take it to the admin.
Smites are meant to hurt someone. If a person doesnt believe that, then they are not being honest.
then you and I have differences on how the system works.
I applaud those who smite me, as while some gain some form of satisfaction by smiting, wielding the ultimate power of the unholy smite. I gain satisfaction by giving an applaud to those who do.
So just because I say
"I despise the fact that those TS who are diagnosed with GID are grouped with CD's/TV's/Andro's under the Transgender umbrella"
would I receive a smite?
Actually getting a smite from some poor sap, who's feeling have been hurt because the real world hurts is somehow satisfying. DILLIGAF

Hmm FM you did give me a smite, and in return I gave you an applause just to make you feel better about yourself.

i don't think i could since it was a thread i was kicked out of in consequence. i even had "warning" stamped under my name for a couple weeks. i would rather just forget it, because i know what goes on here now, and i'm just going to stay away from it.

All of this action today against me because I was trying to get you to admit SRS was necessary for you.
You are having your surgery because it is necessary for yourself. Otherwise your surgeon woudnt allow it.
But you preferred to take it as an attack.
Would you please read what I just wrote. I am not attacking you. Just asking you to admit you need it for yourself.
There was no need for smites. You simply need the surgery. For whatever reason is between you and your team, but you need it. Otherwise it would be illegal for the surgeon.

I'm so sorry that I gave you The Smite FM, I was smiting along the guidelines that annah uses "I only smite when I find a post sorely distasteful or mean spirited. " And I thought your post fit the bill. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings pumpkin. I did give you an applause though to make you feel better about yourself.

1. Don't bring the subject of SRS and whether you agree or not about my beliefs. This thread is about smiting in a free zone. Not about the thread that was locked.
2. If you feel that I unnecessarily smited you then I encourage you to see the Moderators about it. If the Moderators find that it was done unnecessarily and reverse it, then I will be the first person to apologize, openly, about it.

well, thank you for the apology. i smited you because i really don't agree with the alignment you participate in, but i've got no say in what you are just as you have no say in what i am. i'll just leave it there.
Honestly,
I have had a smite in the past (it was removed as it was done for the wrong reasons) send me into a tailspin.
Lasted for about 2 days.
Got me downright depressed.
I can see the use of them as a moderator tool to keep an eye on folks but it is rather ruinous of ones day when you are already feeling low and then you see that a post that was in your mind perfectly reasonable has resulted in a smite.
Also it just gets my goat that there is not a single place on the forums that we can be assured of a free tounge.
So long as no one is calling for felonies or misdemeanors when they are venting it should be a free zone in this area.
imho

which makes sense, because that's the reason for posting in this thread. it's kind of corrupt i guess.

Dear Cynthialee, what if we are just ornery? I think I should be entitled to giving myself an occasional smite. I can not get it to work! Arghh! My new handle would be Smitemeister instead of Threadender.

My favorite term is we each have different coping mechanisms. We have different tolerances to pain as I removed my own beard with a hot needle. We have different reactions to criticism. But I do feel very few could understand pain in someone else's mind. We can accumulate mental baggage that makes decisions more challenging.

Can I smite myself? How does that work? I piss myself off so much, I should be able to smite myself in ARGHHH! every once in awhile.
I have only recieved one smite since I joined Susans. It came right in this forum, in my "National Anthem" topic. I was wearing my little girl panties that day, and I ran crying to Janet Lynn, who took the smite away and made everything all right again. I love you, Janet! Hugs, Tracey
Avian I love your pic with static electricity on hair! It is so cute!

Kia Ora,
::) For those advocating a thread for 'Anarchy' ::) I wonder how long that would last ?
::) I can just imagine the frustration, anger, tension, stress, long term grudges etc that would be generated by such a thread...And for some of those at the receiving end, along with their already present low self-esteem issues and ongoing depression, the razor sharp tongues of some members would cut deep and no doubt push some over the edge...
::) A mod's life is not an easy one 'being the judge, jury and executioner', considering the pressure some are also under, it's possible some are still coming to terms with their issues too... I feel they are all doing a good job monitoring the threads...
::) Just out of interest Isn't a smite a 'personal attack' on the smitee ?
Metta Zenda :)
I sent a lot of hatred out into the world once,
No one would accept it,
My hatred boomeranged back onto me,
That's how my hair line receeded so much.

Here is the definition of smite, in case anyone was wondering...

v. smote (smt), smitĀ·ten (smtn) or smote, smitĀ·ing, smites
v.tr.
1.
a. To inflict a heavy blow on, with or as if with the hand, a tool, or a weapon.
b. To drive or strike (a weapon, for example) forcefully onto or into something else.
2. To attack, damage, or destroy by or as if by blows.
3.

b. To afflict retributively; chasten or chastise.
4. To affect sharply with great feeling: He was smitten by deep remorse.
v.intr.
To deal a blow with or as if with the hand or a hand-held weapon.
So, do you smiters feel like you inflicted a heavy blow? Did it make you feel better?
Well, I will be honest and open, as I am always, and will say yes it did hurt. Your smite is effective. Glad you feel better doing the heavy blow.
You can make it seem like it just isnt important because it is virtual. But I will tell you that all of you smiters are ______s. And I say that with all sincerity. You have truly disappointed me. And that is your loss.

I go by Susan's definition of a smite and what warrants one. I based my definition that relates to the TOS that Susan and the Staff laid out when defining the "smite."
Smites should not be used unless a post clearly violates the rules, policies of the site, or the spirit of the community at Susan's PlaceA smite on this website is different than the general definition of the word "Smite." It's like if someone is playing a game and won and their friends said "Oh wow, you killed that guy!" The word they used for Kill does not equate to the word found in the dictionary. It's meaning is different based on the purpose of why, where, and how it was used.
Also, calling the staff here "______s" is not a good way to argue your convictions on this.
Ya have to keep in mnind that the word smite has certain conotations and meanings that are imbeded in our definitions that came before the smite system.
When I think of the word smite it is rather negative and vicous in my mind.
Perhaps if the word smite was changed to something a little more mild in definition we would have less issues with it.
Like "Severly disagree."
or
"People who think this poster is a dweeb"
or some other thing that does not conjure the image of being dealt blows.
Correct, calling Staff names isn't an effective way to promote understanding. It's also in violation of rules #2 and 11. This topic is now locked!
