Title: Height reduction surgery
Post by: Katylilgirl on November 04, 2011, 08:21:11 PM
Have any of you girls heard about a surgery to reduce your height? I've heard that orthopedic surgeon do it shortening your legs, but I've also heard that there's surgery to change your height is removing part of your spinal cord so your torso could be shorter, I think a neurosurgeon could do it.

Thanks!

I wouldn't do anything to my spine, that doesn't sound safe at all.

I'm 5'6 and I'm way to tall for a girl where I live =/, I've seen men shorter than I'm so it will be difficult for me to get a boyfriend =( because you know guys like shorter girls.

Thanks for your answers! but I'd like to add that where I live many men are the same height as me :( so as I said It will be difficult for me to get a boyfriend!, definetely the best choice is leg shortening.

No it's not, cutting bones like that to change your height is dangerous and has a lot of complications, especially your spine. There's lots of men who like tall girls (My dad's one of them >.<)

Otherwise you could move or something, Idk where you live but there are several women over here that would dwarf the men over there.

5'11" isn't that tall, I would know. ;) Now if I was 6'2" wtf that would be tall.

Ok I'm just trying not to think about it by telling myself "I won't think about it, I won't think about it" but unfurtunately I failed at that :( I think I'll move to another country to see if there are more tall men

wow, im a genetic girl and im 5'7. Ive had a few short boyfriend's and most people usually compliment me on my height. I dont think doing something radical such as surgery is good at all. Plus there are many tall guys out there to date ive met plenty. It makes me wonder where u live?

lol 5'6" is tall?
You're pretty short for a girl compared to other parts of the world.

Btw there's nothing wrong with being the tall girl in the relationship.

"HAHAHAH LOOK AT THAT COUPLE THE GIRL IS TALLER LOLOLOLOL"
tell them to shut the ->-bleeped-<- up, lonely asses prolly dont even got a boyfriend.

Height reduction surgery is completely insane. One thing is injecting stuff just under your skin, but opening up your legs, crushing your bones and refitting them back is another. There can be a myriad of complications not to mention extremely long recovery times and rendering the broken bone weaker since, as I'm sure you know, once it's broken it'll break faster again.

I'm not going to even start on the spine reduction, which can disable you for life.

I'm 6 feet tall and I don't mind it.

There is no way to shorten the torso, ever. Impossible. You just can't reduce the length of the spine. I mean it. It's just after brain transfer surgery on the "definitely impossible" list. I mean it. No chance in hell.

The only surgery that can shorten you is cutting part of the femurs off. It can maybe take 5-10 centimeters off your height. Though that surgery is expensive, has super long recovery times, doesn't guarantee you'll be able to run or jump again, and makes you look awkward because your proportions are broken.

I see no valid reason for that surgery. If you're REALLY SUPER disturbed by your height, I suggest moving to Norway or another place with tall people. But even if you were 7' high, I'd never recommend the surgery. It's almost like cutting your hands off 'cause they're manly.

PS: 5'6 may be pretty tall for a girl, but it's still below male average (so you're lucky to even be that small, statistically), and not THAT rare to encounter.

Source?  I agree that the OP shouldn't do this, but I've never seen anything out there suggesting bones are weakened once a fracture has fully healed.

Why would you shorten your legs? Girls with short legs who flaunt them with skirts look ridiculous. You'd end up wearing heels.

And 5ft6 for a guy is tiny, I see loads of men from China/India much taller than that.

Well it breaking easier is partially correct. See when a bone breaks it is weak until fully healed and for a short time after that, but a young body will heal and put an extra build up where the break was as to avoid and similar injuries (adaptation to wounds)
As you get older that build up may cause some extra stress on other areas of that bone (depends on build up size) and when stress is applied to where stress is it's easier to break.
Though generally the build up has no ill side effects but it simply depends on the condition of the body.

Though I say this I will concede I may be partially incorrect medical fields is not my fort'e

and as for height? damn I wish I was your height, I'm 5'8  and I'm taller then most girls here but shorter then most guys so win some lose some....

Hi I think moving would be A preferable solution for you when you compare the risks of the procedures...

I am 6 foot tall and while some times I feel uncomfortable with my height lots of my girlfriends are well envious of it OK I would probably be happier at 5'10 especially with the heels factor.

I have also read A couple of accounts of people shrinking A little once they have been on HRT at A consistent level and amount of time some times by as  much as two inches which doesn't sound much but I think it has more to do with where you lose the height from. I seem to remember people saying that it's mostly lost from the torso with the shrinking of cartilage.

Please please bring this up with Your therapist if you have on.

My first post here :-)

@Mimpi: I'm Dutch, actually half Indonesian/half Dutch and I'm 5"9.

Yes, true, I see lots and lots of tall girls and women here, some even taller than me in high heels!

I think it depends on the type of woman why she's considered tall; I see very tall, very thin girls but I see very tall (very) big girls too.
The first is usually considered elegant and feminine, if straight up walking; the latter 'une femme cathedrale', a woman as big as a cathedral, as the french say.

But still......I'm also generally considered tall when in flat shoes.

I think everyone has fairly well covered this but I appear to be the only one reading this who is over 6 foot. I'm 6 2 and let me tell you anywhere outside of Scandinavia that is tall, regardless of gender. Don't worry about height scaring men away, if theyre that hung up on you being taller than them how do you think they would react to you being transgender?

Also spinal surgery is not for cosmetic purposes, that stuff is very dangerous and as people have said reducing height by hacking away bones puts you all out of proportion.

Yeah... I'm 5'7" and even with 2 inch heel boots I still manage to be a shorty. Running into men smaller than me is a rarity.

I think you should move out of the Shire if it's bothering you... XD

Hi, that is exceptionally tall by Indonesian standards :) My second wife was 5'3" and known as the tall girl back in Java. However I do know a girl of Indonesian parentage from Singapore who is a couple of inches taller than me and I'm 5'10".

ive thought of that many times...i thought i was the only one.

The fact that her name is "katyLILgirl" and she wants to have an operation because she feels she is too big makes utterly no sense.

I think what she is doing is using these drastic measures by having people give her positive reinforcements and affirmations because she feels better if someone says "oh, honey you aren't tall...you are perfect!" or "oh honey your feet are perfect" and so forth and so on.

Yes, proportion is something to mention. Even short TS's usually have a bigger head, wider shoulders etc than most GG's.

@Mimpi: my dutch father is very tall my indonesian mother shortish. I wound up in between ;-)

The funniest thing is........I was considered a 'shorty' when living as a (very feminine) male (in Holland that is) and considered tall when I started living as a woman.

I'm interested in this surgery. Sybil said that she had it done but I couldn't contact her. I'd like to ask, Is it possible to shorten the length of the torso (thus decreasing overall height) without any severe complications and consequences? I´ve read that it´s possible to remove a part of the spine but i don´t know for sure so that´s why i´m asking. And i´m specifically asking about torso shortening NOT leg shortening. I know that leg shortening is relatively easy but i want to have a shorter torso NOT shorter legs. I would like to shorten my legs since it's easier but unfortunately I don't have long legs(5'9 height 32" inseam)

God. Do ya'll know what shortening your legs would be like. It's not like going in and cutting the bones and then healing right up. Oh you would have pins sticking out of your legs which would cause scars on otherwise beautiful flawless legs. then you would have physical therapy to learn how to walk again. Not really a good thing. Like someone else said, you would never be a supermodel at 5'6". I don't know where you live but I am 5'9" and yeah I am taller than a lot of women but also shorter than a lot too and even in height to more than enough without them wearing heels. Women come in different heights and weights and most guys that aren't too conceited don't mind dating taller women. The ones that would, hell it would probably take them longer to do their hair than it does to do yours. And "That Don't Impress Me Much."

If anyone watches Family Guy on adult swim or anywhere else. The torso shortening reminds me of the show that Peter Griffin was talking about his aunt, All Legs So and So. When she took the dress off all it was, was her head on her hips and butt and no torso at all. Sorry couldn't resist because I have a twisted sense of humor. ???

But anything to do with the spine is extremely dangerous. Not just the spine they would have to remove but probably part of the spinal chord and that is bad MOJO to mess with unless absolutely nessicary.

This is one of those instances where a good therapist will step in and give you a good reality check. Be thankful that there are things we can change and accept the things that we can not change. I feel like I'm way too tall but I accept the fact that I'm a 5'11" tall amazon and you know what, despite my height I still get gendered correctly even though I'm in the 1% for women in my area when it comes to height.

When I was still pretending or at least masquerading, I met and dated a bartender, female, that was over 6'. I was still in the army and out of about 10 guys from my unit I was the lucky one. She was taller than all but one of the guys. Just goes to show that guys for the most part don't care if a woman is taller unless he has some kind of inferiority complex. Everyone was jealous of me so... I have dated guys shorter than me and their attitude more than made up for their height and they never had a problem. I think a lot of times it is more or less our problem. I would date a guy 5'0" as long as he had the right attitude and never think twice about it.

Any surgery to shorten your legs or worse, remove bones and/or cartilage is highly unethical if not impossible, and no self respecting surgeon would perform such a procedure.

I am 172 cm long. And most transgirl wished that they were just as short as me. But my own preference is that I want to be at least 180 cm long. And also I want a girlfriend that is taller than me!

I'm 5'9" (174cm) tall, and I'd love to lose a couple of inches.

That being said there is no way I'd let a surgeon anywhere near my spine!

I'm 5'5 2/3 (167 cm) and sometimes and I'd love to be shorter. But I already feel lucky for this being this height :) but most girls here are shorter than that, and yet most guys are taller. So I'm really in the middle. There aren't many tall girls, people here are on average short compared to Northern Europe countries. To be honest, I don't think height is as much of an issue. I am short and I've never dated >.< perhaps because I still present as guy, but I have a feminine voice and face, and I think guys don't wanna date me ughhh.

Guys actually like tall women with long legs, it's considered attractive. And any sweet guy will see much more beyond your exterior appearance too. So don't worry. :)

Just never take calcium, wait 20 years and shrink just like your grandmother did. Same results  >:-)

I think way too many of you girls are way too fixated on height. Over 6' is sexy. Under 6' is sexy. It really don't matter. I'm 5'9" and in 4" inch heels I stand 6'1" and have had guys that were 4 inches shorter than me in heels take me home and they had 10' tall attitudes. I've had guys try to take me home that were 6' 5" with 3' tall attitudes that just couldn't hold my attention. So don't feel bad about your height. When the heels come off then they will seem a little taller but really though. Who cares? I would rather have a 5' 0" guy with extreme confidence than a 7'0" guy that towered over me with the confidence of a mouse. Give me a real man anytime no matter how tall he is.

I'm 6'1"... if I knew how to get shorter I'd be saving money for it right now. If I ever put on heels I'll look like an Amazon woman. lol

Yeah? So? Tall women are in. So you would be 6'5" in 4" heels. I would be 6'1". I end up obsessing sometimes over things especially over the freaking finger ratio thing, Now it is the height thing. I am 5' 91/4", even measured myself. I have noticed more women as tall or taller than me. Yeah some are shorter but they are way more petite than normal size. Some are a tad bit shorter, most are about the same height and some even taller than me even. I have heard that Paris Hilton wears size 13 and I ain't nowhere near that shoe size. I can get away with 9 sometimes  but usually 9 1/2. I would say as long as you are proportioned the height shouldn't matter too much.

I'm about 5'9. I can live with my height, it's not my most pressing concern by any means.

It's more about build than height. You could be 5'6 but stocky but 6'1 and skinny and busty beats it every time. I don't know I'm 5'5.5 or so and have 13 inch shoulders, size7/8 women's shoes, and am a 32D but still fear clocking. Everyone calls me tiny, but I think I'm average. 5'10 is not bad at all. It's dress more than anything....dress.

I'm about the same size you are Joanna with the exception of the D cups. I'm 5-5, I wear a 32B and fill it nicely. Long legs, short torso and 13 & 1/2 inch shoulders. I'm about 5-8 in 4" heels and I too wear a size 7-8 inch woman's shoes. I get being thought of as tiny as I too am looked upon as Tiny by most everyone.

It's the complete package that shows femininity. hairstyle, outfit, shoes, manurisms, and confidence. Just overall presentation whether your 5-2 or 6-4.

Ally ;)

I'm also 5'6. I guess I'm really lucky, because I'm shorter than lotsa people out there.

5'6 is probably pretty feminine. So I should be really thankful.
But I'd like to be shorter and more petite, though. I'd really really really like to be shorter.

I hope so so so much that there's a safe surgery someday to make us shorter. And I'd like to have smaller feet and shoulders, too.
Maybe technology will improve and we can do that someday. I sure hope so!

Funny, no MTF claiming to have shrunken in height miracously, including their feet shrunken a few sizes here in this thread.

I'm 6'4" and no way I'd consider anything like that. I want to live more than I want to be shorter.

There are several threads on Susan's in which MTF claim they've shrunken several inches in height/their feet have shrunken several sizes while on HRT.
According to them sometimes even in a few months to a year.

Don't let you height keep you from transitioning. I'm 6'7" and pass. Yes I get looks at being seen as a tall woman, but no one has ever clocked me for being tall. I know two cis-women that are tall. One is my height and another is 6'9".

MOVE!!! If that sounds too difficult or drastic, think about your alternative......JUST MOVE ANYWAY. If  you're in an area where the men are too short for your gigantic height, 5'-6", I'd move. The leg surgeries are only going to make you look deformed because your legs will look too short, and the spinal surgery isn't even an option, because I don't think it's even medically possible yet. But if for nothing else, that it's an incredibly sensitive area with virtually all of your nerves from your lower body going to your brain through your spinal cord. You can't be that desperate. There are definitely men, maybe not that many, but there are guys everywhere, including Central America, Southeast Asia, the Philippines and wherever else there are short men, that are taller than 5' 8" tall. MOVE!!!

Lots of emotional work. Height like ours doesn't have to be an issue. People looked at me when I was presenting as a guy, they look at me now. Tall is tall. Looks are because I'm tall not because I'm trans.  People defer to taller people, they assume taller people are in charge and so I simply take it and own it. Like I did when I presented as a guy.  I don't get misgendered and I'm still in the middle of transition.  Height simply doesn't have to be an issue.

Now, I work really hard in everything else and accentuate everything I can that works to my advantage. I also don't wear heels much. Others say no big deal but I don't need them and I don't want more height, but that's just me.

If you have a cluster of passing traits follow those and walk tall and confident and you'll be fine.

Believe me, I was frozen scared for years over my height.  You can do it.

I second this^^___^^. 5-6 is really not that tall for a woman. So I must agree -MOVE!!
