Shout out to all my brony brothers and Pegasisters?
And who is your favourite pony? XD of course
I've got a friend that's a hardcore brony. I'm not. I do wonder how many bronies are here.
So wish that term existed when I watched my little pony as a little semi-boy.
Then when someone enters the room I'd quickly change to TRANSFORMERS. Robots in disguise.
Yes, I'm weird.
LOL ;D My Little Pony is a perfectly manly thing to watch!
lol i only started to watch it aswell, my boyfriend is a bronie too....my fav pony got to be rainbow dash and flutter shy and pinkypie, i like them all really....need to start watching more eps!
Yes, only since a couple of weeks!
For me, it's a tie between Twilight Sparkle and Applejack, but I love them all.
lol i love them all too my absolute favourite pony is Princess Luna, second to her is Rainbow Dash :3
I LOVE Pinkie Pie because she reminds me a lot of Luna from Harry Potter. And Luna is awesome as well (my fav char in that, in fact).
Also Pegasisters huh? Never heard of that one, it's a lot better than brony!
Sup. Scootaloo is my favorite pony, but I also like Pinkie Pie, Soarin', Twilight Sparkle, and Rainbow Dash. Luna is awesome too.
...There are too many to list.
Twilight Sparkle is the best pony, hands down.
@PixieBoy I actually disagree XD to each his/her own, but I just don't like her "I'm in charge" personality. I do adore Psycho Twilight though lol.
@Lynn yep Pegasisters is a fairly new term XD
I was a brony before ponies were cool. ;D Favorite pony? Tough choice.... guess I'll go with Twilight Sparkle, since she's a geek like me.
... I'm not sure... I used to watch it many years ago. I hated the songs though. But I've seen one episode of this newer show and it seems a lot more entertaining than the original. I may watch more episodes. But my favorite pony of all time has never been in the My Pretty Pony/ My Little Pony universe. He's from Rainbow Brite:
Just out of curiosity, was Rainbow Brite considered a girls cartoon? I had Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealers on VHS. When I asked for a toy of Starlite, I wasn't allowed because my Mum said it was a girls toy. But my cousin's had a story cassette that was in German and I loved listening to it every time I was there.
yup, I'm a brony ^^ (dislike the term pegasister for some reason)
as for favorite pony would have to be Rarity/Applejack
yes I know they are oppisites but they both have things to them I love.
btw can't wait for next episode
>.>
<.<
My favorite pony is Rarity.
Keaira, gosh Idk, I've never heard of the character before.
was Rainbow Brite considered a girls cartoon?
Was G.I.Joe considered a boys cartoon?
Is the Pope Catholic?
Do bears ->-bleeped-<- in the woods?
LOL @ Bronies! I know some IRL.
Jay
wtf is a brony?
I used to have a pet pony and he bit me in the stomach whenever he got the chance. I hated him.
@Crashdown LMAO. Well, most ponies have a reputation for being naughty. I know a little bit about horses myself XD now onto the question, a brony is a male My Little Pony Fan. (Brother + Pony= Brony) A pegasister is a female My Little Pony fan though ironically bronies seem to be more common. Also I think brony is more of a gender neutral term, I hope that clears some thingis up for you ;D
*facepalm*

Interesting. I thought my little pony went out in the 80s. But perhaps I just stopped noticing them.
The New generation has been a lot better plot wise and much more popular among the older age range.
Oh god, it's everywhere. Recently on some other sites and games I've noticed random so-called "bronies" popping up. Usually they just get made fun of, but seriously this ->-bleeped-<- has to stop lol I really, really don't get this fad. It has to be one of the most mind boggling trends I've seen in a long...long time. I mean seriously...cartoon ponies...

Took the thoughts right from my limbic system, my friend.
Holy ->-bleeped-<-, I thought My Little Pony died off in the 80's. My sister used to have heaps of the toy ones. And I totally forgot about Rainbow Brite 'til someone mentioned it.
Made. My. Night. ;D Huge fan here, my favorite would have to be AppleJack or FlutterShy. Anyone else guilty of loving the mane four as colts? :-X Butterscotch and Elusive FTW

I just wanted to make sure. My wife tried to tell be it was a boy's cartoon too. Speaking of bears, I loved to watch the Care Bears.
Come to think of it, there's a lot of girls cartoons I used to watch and didn't give it a second thought. hmm.....

Starlite had an ago. He would constantly say he was the most fabulous horse in the universe. But I love the way he looks. ^_^
So, fellow Bronies, what be your favorite episode? I'm torn between Mare in the Moon and The Return of Harmony. I just love the Star Trek and Star Wars references in the second but I also love Nightmare Moon in the first.
This thread prompted me to go watch the first episode. At first, I was unsure why it is so popular, but let's just say I'm loading the second episode now...
So far I like Rainbow Dash and FlutterShy (sp?). I think I may join this 'brony' herd soon.
Yes! Come to the dark side Max! We have ponies AND cookies! (And cupcakes, just ask Pinkie Pie...but uh, don't eat the cupcakes that Applejack makes).
BTW, my favorite fan-made video:
Apple Spice | The Stallion Your Brony Could Smell Like (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ob6uxblqelY#)
Jmax, that was good! lol
having watched Episode 3, I'm beginning to find characters I like. Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash I think I like most with a sprinkle of Apple Jack.
My favorite is Big Mac :'P. No mater how crappy things have gotten, I've never said this about anyone else. I wan't his life @_@! I would sell my Cheerios to the devil for it! D:< I'd say soul, but I'm afraid he'll actually show up and offer it :'P. Don't judge me, it's happened before! D:<
Out of the main six, I love Pinkie Pie. There's nothing I can't love about her @_@!

That's pretty much how I got into it as well. I was skeptical for a really long time because you know ... it's a children's show about ponies! How could I possibly like that? There wasn't even any nostalgic value in checking it out as I've never seen the original series either.
But then I was bored, and there was a pony video in my recommended videos on Youtube and I was like "oh why the hell not, I'll watch the first episode".
About an hour after saying that I had all of the episodes from season 1 on my computer.
My Little Pony was a revolutionary cartoon in that the product merch was created first, and then the show written around it - instead of the other way around.
Brohoof everyone! Jmax, one word: EPIC.

@Sam actually yea. I kinda dislike Rainbow for that one reason. Fluttershy's another favourite. But Luna is best pony above all for me :3 when in "girl mode" I feel like a misfit like her. :)
@Keaira I just got a chance to check out Rainbow Brite on YouTube. In a way its very similar to the original MLP

Yes, it was. But that horse, Starlight, is still to this day, my favorite. I wasn't allowed a toy of it because my Mum said it was a girl's toy.

If you can find some on eBay you might be able to find a toy there? :)
LOL now that I watched that cartoon I have a strange tendency to want a white horse dye his mane and tail Rainbow and name him Starlight XD I probably wont dye him but I will name him Starlight. I still want a horse, they're my dream "pet" :) Actually I really, really want a pony. Maybe a bigger one like 13hh, but I'm 5'4 and 118lbs so idk if that's too tall/heavy even for a sturdy pony? I'm going on a pony rant now aaaah ha. Well. I did start this thread after all :)
It's funny, for all the male things I did or watched as a child, I had just as much fun doing/ watching the stuff females did. I had transformers, GI Joe, and hot wheels, But I played with my little pony toys at a friends house, Played in the school playground with the girls and even had a Rainbow Brite lunchbox. As I'm sitting here, I'm remembering all this and more. And I have to admit, I must have seemed pretty androgynous to my parents. I used to wear tights. Even to school. instead of v-neck sweater, shirt and yellow/black striped tie, like the rest of the boys in elementary school,I had the shirt, tie and a blue cardigan with a brown teddy bear on the left breast.
But I wasn't allowed Rainbow Brite's horse.
.............

No problem :) Glad to help out :P
....no... NO! Now i want a Twinkle Eye pony aaaah haha. I wanted a Princess Luna doll from the G4 but they didn't carry any of them in my country so i bought a talking princess celestia and painted her with acrylic paints :) i am rather proud of it actually XD
Twilight Sparkle's my favorite, but I also love Derpy, of course!

Oh, cool, customizing! I've customized a few ponies. I really really want a Princess Luna too, but haven't been able to get one yet. I want the smaller one, not the styling one (I think the wings on the styling ones just look, I dunno, odd.) And now, how about some twinkle eye pics? :D

Oh come on! now I'm remembering the times I played with them. thanks. *sigh* such pretty colors.
@jmax thanks haha. Well cause everyones always done a gift set Celestia for the customizing and well I just wanted to try something different, and seeing as the talking Celestia was all I had at the moment for customizing into Luna XD
I just got an idea but I have no clue on how to go about it. I wonder if I can record Luna going "the fun has been doubled!" and all the other cute things she says and replace Celestia's phrases with that? lol
if we are talking about a toy here, get a Birthday card that will allow you to record a message. take out the circuit board and battery. record the phrases you want, and place it in the toy. that's a simple way.
WOW. Yeah, I totally liked My Little Pony. When I was 5.

Ideally you should watch more than one episode, especially if the episode you watched was the first (which is basically just an intro to the characters)
The reason it is entertaining for adults is because of RARITY.... oh wait, I mean, the reason it is entertaining for adults is because there is a lot of really good humor in the series. It's not just a bunch of "potty humor" like a lot of modern cartoons. MLP: FiM is actually very intelligent.
@Keaira thanks i'll try. I have the Evil Enchantress Remix stuck in my head now and I've been listening to it all morning 0.0
@Luc Ya. Basically, what VeryGnawty said. It's a clever storyline and well the potty jokes just get really old, this actually has jokes that make me laugh. Plus the interesting and colourful characters.
@Bradd Eyup :3
Did anyone catch this week's episode yet (Read It and Weep)? Talk about 20% cooler! My favorite Dash episode by far.
The only reason I recognized the subject of this thread is because someone called into Porc Therapy (http://www.porctherapy.com/2012/01/28/porc-therapy-2012-01-27/) to talk about being a My Little Pony fan. I may not have had the My little Pony toys when I was little, And I might have had to go over to a girl friend's house to play with them, But that doesn't make me any less happy discussing this almost missing part of my childhood. Nor will I be silent about it!
Telling people to let a thread die, a thread that has opened up a shared commonality where we can talk about something that brings us closer together, especially when it's still relevant to our lives, is just plain mean.
No PopTart,

i'm gonna jump in here.... i'm not an MLP fan. to be honest, i really can't stand the show. but that's my opinion and i have the choice of simply avoiding this thread. i don't think it's irrelevent to a forum of guys who are looking for shared interests and want to socialise with other FTMs who're into the same things, and while you could argue that it might be better in general discussion, the question is specific to guys, given that MLP is notorious for its male following and the term 'bronies'.

*Sighs and shakes her head* Yes it is relevant. The guys, they got to play with MLP toys. the girls didn't. How is that not relevant? here at Susan's, things can be a little opposite compared to the outside world. The guys here talk about how they cope with periods and the girls are glad they dont get morning wood anymore. These are all relevant experiences to our lives. But since MLP has made a comeback and only gotten better, why can't I hang around with the boys who obviously know more about them than I do?
And what makes this any less relevant than some of the other, more unusual threads?
Quote from: poptart on February 05, 2012, 02:56:43 PM

It is pretty relevant, though. It's already brought up discussion about which toys people were allowed to play with, just because of the sex someone was assigned at birth. Keaira has talked about how she wasn't allowed ponies. And I never got a Hot Wheels set or Ninja turtles for birthdays or Christmas--though I got plenty of dolls and pink stuff. I'm sure a lot of people here could tell similar stories about not being given toys or only allowed to play with certain toys because of their biological sex. Toys are pretty strictly gender-policed (with many parents and also with the toy companies going with "what sells"). Toys are one big area where kids first start learning about gender stereotypes. So it's pretty significant that you have guys crossing the gender divide to watch and/or collect something aimed at girls. It's a quality show that appeals to both boys and girls, whether they're adults or kids.

This this this this this this this this this this :D ...ok I am done now XD but yea the entire time I've replied to this thread I was thinking about how my parents actually didn't care if I wanted a Hot Wheel toy or a dinosaur. Maybe because it's more socially acceptable for girls to play with both genders toys? Hmm.
I had no idea there was a show. I only knew of them from the toy commercials.
The show is a toy commercial. It's wholly owned by Hasbro.
My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is an animated television series that premiered on October 10, 2010, on the United States cable network The Hub. Hasbro Studios and DHX Media Vancouver (formerly known as Studio B Productions) produce the series, which is based on Hasbro, Inc's My Little Pony line of toys and animated works. As of September 2011, the show is in its second season in the United States, and is broadcasting internationally in dozens of countries in over ten languages.
Animator Lauren Faust was selected by Hasbro as the creative director and executive producer for the show. Faust sought to challenge the established "girly" nature of the existing My Little Pony line, creating more in-depth characters and adventurous settings, incorporating Hasbro's suggestions for E/I ("educational and informational") content and marketing of the toy line.

I wouldn't call myself a fan of the My Little Pony series, but I figured I'd throw this out.

That's what I was set on thinking before I actually sat down and watched all of the episodes. Now I'm hooked. You either like it or you don't, and if you do, awesome! If you don't, awesome! But in my opinion it's one of the -best- cartoons out at the moment. And the community makes some pretty awesome music, which is the icing to the awesome MLP cake.
Eurobeat Brony - Discord (The Living Tombstone's Remix) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPfMb50dsOk#)
The trend exists because it started on 4chan, the site that basically has started tons and tons of memes and subcultures. It's the largest english speaking image board on the web. Even if you haven't been on it, you've seen its effects on a great scale. That's where the trend came from.
But, to give credit to the show, strong characterization and a very "self aware" sort of dialog and story line make it awesome. They know older audiences are watching it, and occasionally give us little nods. It's a good show, probably better than a lot of the junk they put on television.
Also, 4chan just got a new /mlp/ board. Which I'm pretty stoked about, as a brony.

I really never used 4chan and have no desire to, but more power to you.
I am well versed in internet memes and know this is a meme, but I don't know why it deserves to me.A
To me, it's as ridiculous as when those "hipster kids" would where Dora the Explorer and Blues Clues backpacks to school because they thought they were being ironic or something. I dunno. I assume this show is a lot more well written, but it derives from a Hasbro show that was made in the 80s as a marketing campaign for a toy. Also, I think most cartoons geared towards children should start giving nods to the adults that have to watch them anyway, because often parents will sit and walk television with their kids, but most of the stuff that's geared towards their age group is so unbelievably condescending and or nonsensical.
If lolcatz and rage comics have huge subcultures, why can't a show?
Yeah, there is a little bit of irony in the liking of mlp, but not much. It's a show I genuinely enjoy watching because the characters and suspense actually make a good arching story line. You'd have to watch at least 5 episodes to get why it's a big deal. I mean, if American Idol has 8 seasons, why can't people enjoy My Little Pony? I agree, a lot of shows aimed at kids are pretty stupid. With lolrandum sorts of humor and just plain "lets make it stupid for laughs" I can see how just being a kid's show might make you think that mlp relies on this.
But it really doesn't. It's an ensemble show that is worth watching. Even if it is geared towards little girls, and might be one big product placement ad in the eyes of some people, I like it. I like it because it creates a story line that doesn't run on swearing or dirty jokes, or dumb methods of gaining cheap laughs. It is a "peril of the week" type thing, but whatever, I like seeing characters I like interact.
I don't see why it's so hard to believe a group of people like a show. There are people devoted to Star Trek, it never appealed to me, but obviously others like it, and that's cool.
I completely agree with Brad on this one, and don't really have anything to add because he summed it up spot on and better than I can/could.
And yes, I too find it pretty ridiclous at the amout of hipsters/scene kids/whatever kids what wear clothing articles that are based on shows like Strawberry Shortcake, Dora the Explorer, etc... There's like twenty kids I can think of at the top of my head that dress like that on a regular bases at my school. I can't stand it, but then again it's not my place to look at them odd when I look like I'm 9 without those types of clothes. Stupid short hair making me look younger...
A bio guy friend of mine asked me yesterday, in complete seriousness, who was my favourite pony.
I swear I'm traumatized, ponies, what the heck? I guess friendship really is magic. I don't even know. Accourding to him, only guys can be Bronies because of the 'bro' part of that. I never heard that before, so that was an interesting twist. I have nothing against my little pony but I'm old enough to remember it in the eighties. It was extremely girly and absolutely not for me back then. Seemingly it's changed a bit ... at least I hope so.
If it's really worth looking into I'll do it. I still don't have a favourite however ...
I know a few guys that do not even access the internet often, and love My Little Pony... the actual audience is a majority 22-28 year old men ROFL
PFFT. No, girls can be into ponies, they're called pegasisters!
Yeah, look into it, and try to watch the first 10 episodes or so to get a good idea. You'll either love it, or not understand and hate it. That's usually how it is.

Ooh yes, I would like to see him. ^_^
What made you choose Starlite over one of the MLP' horses?
@Keaira cuz... cuz i already have most the MLP toys LULZ ::) :-\ and i liked the colours on Starlite, theyre all retro and everything, trying to get past his diva attitude but i still love him either way XD and he's original. :3

Yea, he was kind of a diva, But I thought he was the best horse ever when I saw him. Maybe that's why I like Rainbow Dash. Or that She's a Tomboy. Or all of the above. ^_^

I always feel so weird looking at the long flowing hair on the RD toy!! lol I had to cut my RD's hair into a mohawk to make it resemble the show a bit more XD
so Cody, when are you going to show us that picture of Starlite?
You know what's funny? All the Bronies here I guess could have been considered ahead of the times when they played with the toys as children. :P
I just attended a large brony meetup, with about 60 people! It was so much fun. I'm out as trans to them, and they all accept me and are wonderful towards me. It feels really great.
Twilight Sparkle is best pony, by the way.
Glad you had a good time ^_^ and..no! Rainbow Dash because she is totally into winning. :P
Just wanted to let you guys and girls know that I searched for MLP on youtube thinking I'd just get a load of 'I love you, I love you too! let's all hug!' tosh but am now watching my second episode 'putting your hoof down' I actually see how people might get addicted to it. I hope you're all happy >:(
:P
Now I watch pretty much everything animated. I'm an animation junkie (except for Disney stuff with a few exceptions). I love anime, nicktoons, Don Bluth's films, kids shows, you name it. They bring me much joy and I can certainly understand why anyone would loves a show like this.
But I personally did not care for it in the slightest. It reminded me of Powerpuff Girls which I also didn't care for.
Give me Naruto any day over ponies.

It's a private album. That's prolly why the embedded pics aren't working. You can prolly change the settings on that album or move the pics to a public album if you have other pics that you want to be private in there.
I changed the settings to public but it still doesn't seem to show.. or do I have to re upload them all again? s'okay I don't mind just posting my link :)

I think what you did was click on a pic and then copy & paste the URL from the URL bar. Photobucket is a little tedious, it seems. To get a direct link that can be embedded, you need to mouseover the thumbnail and the direct link is an option in the dropdowns. You need to use that. I followed one of the links from your embedded pics and it took me to the album.
I'm a big fan of imgur.com. It's easy to use to embed pics anywhere and the pics stay up for a very long time. You can even download addons for Chrome or Firefox and others that will let you right-click images and they will upload to Imgur and open up in a new tab so it's easy to grab the new URL for embedding.
Just thinking about it makes my head hurt XD i think for now i'll stick to keeping my link up there

It was made by the same person, actually Lauren Faust or something. And Naruto?! Really? Filler city...
Dude I didn't judge you for watching a show about ponies. Plus naruto is an excellent manga and I like the show because I get to watch my favorite comic come to life. Yeah the filler sucks but other than that its good.
I can't say that Naruto is that exciting. I tried to get into it but there are other anime that I find more appealing, Like Ghost in the shell or even Macross frontier. Now, if you abridge Naruto, it's funny as heck....
Gaara of the Funk! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOa8Bxr2jNI#)
But MLP is a cute change of pace. I was thinking back to my childhood earlier and I guess I had a good balance going. I played with MLP toys at a friends house but I had transformers at home. Boys toys always seemed to be able to do more, like had more articulation in them than girls toys. anyone notice that? Like the GI Joe figures vs Barbie.
I will say this though, either I've gotten dumber or the transformers have employed the guys who make the rubiks puzzles, because I bought Movie Optimus Prime for my son a couple of years ago. It took me half an hour and a youtube video to turn it into a truck! But MLP seems to have stayed the same... if a little smaller?
Lol I love naruto abridged...
Idk my point was that I get a kick out of naruto even though lots of people don't like it, same as you all are allowed to like mlp even though lots of people don't. I'd talk anime but I don't want to hijack the thread lol.
And the best "transformer" toy me and my brother had was this sweet power ranger megazord that turned into six animal robots when you took it apart. A bull, cheetah, eagle, lion, shark and something else I think. It was mad cool.
I love DDR!

Agreed. I was never a Naruto fan, I just couldn't get into it. I loved Transformer toys though, especially the animal themed robots. Was also a big Hot Wheel fan. Hmm I wonder if my liking "boy toys" has anything to do with my ->-bleeped-<-.

Lol sup, major brony here. I actually run a small business with a pegasister up at college selling customized my little pony dolls. I'm not sure if I can have a favorite pony. I love them all too much. But lately, I really adore Sweetie-bot (fanon from Friendship is Witchcraft).
I haven't had any problems explaining the fact that yes, I like ponies, and yes, I'm still a guy to anybody, luckily. Or I would have to send them to the moooon.
Psst.
