So. This game has been sucking me in on and off for over a year now!
A friend bought me a copy when it was in Alpha, I didn't think I'd like it much. Truth be told, the first time I played it, I didn't. But, I played one more time, and then I was hooked.
And now, I'm playing on a server with 60 other people... Yeah.
Anyone else addicted to MC?
I dunno about addicted, but I have played it quite a bit, and I will continue doing so. It's very fun, especially with redstone things.
Yesterday I started again just to keep my head busy with something...
Damn, my butt hurts so much now...
Hey I run a Tekkit, Minecraft server You guys should come join :D My server is public and it's been going for a while. I don't really have any problems with greifers or the like.
the address is 173.199.66.142:25585
All in one mod and launcher. www.technicpack.net/tekkit/ (http://www.technicpack.net/tekkit/)
MC is truly too addictive for me.. had a server at one stage and it feels like playing virtual Lego but on a huge scale lol (I love Lego)
Wow I never knew there were so many cool facets to this board.. only just joined and am liking a lot ^_^
I have been playing Minecraft since spring. I have avoided on-line games because was afraid they would take all my free time. I was right! I started playing in single player mode then in October I took the plunge and tried it online. Ooops. BIG mistake! There's usually about 60 people on this server too (Noobscraft is its name-that's why I tried it first). Addicted? Most likely. gottamine gottamineBut I am trying to beat it. It is like Legos -I always loved those. I am trying to find a plain Lego set for my kids, but the sets are either to small or way to bi (=expensive)
I own a simi professional Tekkit Minecraft server :D you should come :D
It's the most common mod pack. No don't worry a out mods! I see you worrying. you don't install or do anything really. Just use this
www.technicpack.net/tekkit/ (http://www.technicpack.net/tekkit/)
Instead of the normal minecraft.exe and pick Tekkit on the drop down menu.
The server is
tekkit-bluebox.boards.net/index.cgi
173.199.66.142:25585
^_^; I think my avatar just reshows my addiction to this now... Heh. THough I'm more of a explorer than a builder. I'll build a small shack or nowadays take a small cave for a house. I'm a dragon gal in MC it's what we do :)
I love minecraft. Out of my guy friends I normally hang out with, I'm the only one who plays almost non stop. By non stop I mean by I haven't taken any long breaks from minecraft to play other games. I'm both a builder and an explorer. Mainly play singleplayer. My friends have a server I jump on when they are on.
I'm just getting back into MC with the 1.4.6 update. It's sad that most of the mods I like are still not yet able to work with it, but at least optifine works with 1.4.6 without fail. :)
im waay too addicted to mc
currently building a massive enderman farm in the end
and playing feed the beast modpack wich is kinda cooly
I am an admin on a server. While we wait to update I've been building a replica of the American Psycho house xD
I'm an Admin on a Minecraft SMP server and a Tekkit server as well. If you're interested in joining us let me know.
Absolutely no griefing is allowed in our full open worlds. :)

I like starting new worlds in minecraft because I feel the end game is really dull. Once you've got a farm up and a stable food supply, diamond equipment and all that stuff, there isn't really anything to do anymore. Sure there's the end realm but I don't want to complete the game so much as simply try to survive in it. Eventually it gets too easy and you don't have to mine or craft anymore =P
At this point, I don't play it much at all unless with friends =P

You should try Tekkit. All that you mentioned is just the barest of beginnings. The tekkit mod pack is about industrialization and automation. The challenge is eficiency. That I've not finished. I have torn down whole industrial complexes in order to rebuild with a more eficient design.

I play mainly to build things. Mods look interesting but I don't feel like investing time in getting them to run. I do like to mess with current snapshots, though. I have one fairly hugely explored map that I've been expanding development on (building up a fairly huge town of 200+ testificates) for a very long time... though with the new redstone expansion coming, I'm a bit conflicted in that I've explored so much of the nether, I'm going to have a very hard time collecting quartz in that particular map unless I go off to some as yet unexplored region, which is a slog at this point, even using my fairly extensive network of nether portals.
I'd be interested to see what a server is like (I've avoided them so far) but not really keen on installing mods to do that.

I had been watching yogscast play tekkit for a while now. It looks like a lot of fun but I would really like it if mojang added some more mid-game stuff to challenge players =)
It took me a while go get into it, but then I was hooked, now I go for a few weeks without playing it, and then I'll be up all night on my server, building all sorts of new things, or just mining for hours and hours.
the game is great. except for diamonds. their rarity can go hang itself. That and the fact that most diamonds aren't actually buried that deep bothers me.

I when I'm just mining I usually have a movie going in a different window. :)

I do that sometimes too, or I just go on itunes and listen to a nice long podcast :)
I guess for mining I usually have a movie or an article to read. and I bring two cats with me in case creeper want to spawn.

Use one of the mapping programs, like Minutor (http://seancode.com/minutor/). I use them on the logic that real miners use geological maps and knowledge of strata to know where to dig (though it would have been neat if the devs had mirrored a bit more how geology and geophysics actually work). Not sure what you mean by "buried that deep" -- diamonds tend to appear between bedrock and about 14 m above in any of the seeds I've used, and that seems to be hard coded (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Diamond_Ore).
(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fmedia-mcw.cursecdn.com%2Fthumb%2Fd%2Fd0%2FDiamond_D_28x.jpg%2F500px-Diamond_D_28x.jpg&hash=18615e615036ad61624205903f3f8d2c65165cb8)
I hate wasting time too much, so unless I'm actually self-flagellating, I tend to rely on the wiki quite a bit.
yeah I think it's hardcoded for something like 10-17 above the bedrock base.
I just meant with real world diamonds most that can actually be mined are forced toward the surface by geological activity that actually create them.
"The Argyle Diamond Mine is the world's largest diamond mining operation by volume, although not necessarily by value. Located in Australia, this mine covers 110 acres, and reaches down underground about 1,900 feet (not even 1 Km!) at its deepest part."
and considering mining that's pretty shallow for that being the absolute deepest point, while with gold I think the record for depth is about 4.5 kilometers. 1Km being 3280.84 feet.

So true. Real miners also can't enchant their pickaxes. ;)
I used to use steeply slanted mineshafts and staircases, but over time I've gotten much more efficient with ladders and cutting out vertical shafts relatively safely. One of the minor annoyances I've had, though, is how ongoing changes to the code tend to affect maps that one has worked on over a long time period. I have a very developed farm and village system in one map, but the latest Redstone revisions are going to make it very unattractive to play unless I can find some way to rebuild the nether to include quartz deposits.
My map (http://www.minecraftworldmap.com/worlds/Wgx4R#/1281/64/1050/-1/0/2), in an older version, if you want to mess with it.
I prefer the water elevator method to ladders, just for the sake of saving resources. although I am very fond of a circular powered mineshaft to send my hauls back up to my warehouse. I've actually managed to connect my warehouse and about 7 villages at this point, so I've got a small mini boom of an economy going.

Tried the water elevator and managed to kill myself (fortunately most of my diamond and enchanted tools were recovered after the respawn). I think I'll keep "wasting" resources unless I can figure out how to make that method reliable. Seems really counter-intuitive to me, but I probably misunderstood something very simple, or so I hope.
Lumber is a renewable resource, after all.
yeah, I just like the novelty of the elevator XD
See if you where playing on the Blue Box tekkit server, you could jsut drop the mining haul onto a teleporter pad, where they would be processed by an automated smelting and sorting machine of your own disign!!!!!! Or you could as Wraith to make you one xD she love being asked to make stuff.

Wondering whether, with the new hoppers and other new redstone features, can I make such a smelter/sorter in vanilla Minecraft? Haven't really tried, apart from having installed the recent snapshots where those features are present. I'm afraid with tekkit I might lose all control over my free time. ;)
I have trouble playing Minecraft in the form of that I get bored playing on vanilla but the moment i install something like "Feed the Beast" I get overwhelmed. So I can never seem to get anything out of it. :-\

Not that it will help with managing your time, but I found some of the tutorials on building various machines (in vanilla) enough to maintain interest, but that may only appeal to those interested in playing with "physicalized" virtual logic circuits. I tend to favor vanilla, since I like to be able to keep the crafting recipes simple and limited enough that I'm not constantly digging into the wiki to recall how to do things.

Yay! Little Sister is back up. :) Thanks Jennifer

You're starting to wear me down. Do you have a link for a tutorial that will ensure that I can manage to go back and forth between tekkit and the vanilla snapshot (right now it's 13w05) that I tend to use with my longstanding maps?

It's not a problem Minecraft and Tekkit are stored on your hard drive in separate locations. all you need do is download the Technic Pack at http://www.technicpack.net/tekkit/ (http://www.technicpack.net/tekkit/)
I often have both a Tekkit window and a vanilla window open at the same time or even multiple instances of tekkit. when you launch the technic launcher it gives you the opptions on the top left for which load you want to use.. it really is quite simple to use. :)
And as Jennifer said, come on over to the dark side. :D
Colleen.
Tekkit is modded minecraft, but it comes prepackaged with it's own .EXE and it saves in a diffrent folder. So ya follow the link below and download the tekkit launcher. Treat it like the minecraft.exe.
http://www.technicpack.net/download (http://www.technicpack.net/download)
Then when you launch the game it will ask for a log in. Before you log in select your mod pack. in this case Tekkit, Lite or Classic. From the drop down menu in the upper left. Finally punch you normal minecraft login in to the block in the lower right.
The login details for the Multi player servers is
-Tekkit Classic, 16 man server "Blue Box" IP: 173.199.66.142:25585
-Tekkit Lite, 16 man server "Little Sister" IP:68.232.178.10:25585
Thanks for the info... I briefly made it onto Blue Box yesterday, shortly after reading Jenn and Colleen's posts, but left as soon as it got dark since I had yet to figure out where I could start building (or finding) shelter. Then I got lost for hours trying to figure out how some of the stuff in Tekkit works... I think I was getting stuck in the depths of Buildcraft (which I'm not quite sure is fully enabled?) in Tekkit Classic...
Wow, it is SO very different! I knew it would be, I have at least watched various Yogscast and other videos related to some of the more industrial and power generation features of the various mods, which is where I wound up getting confused... mainly about trying to get some basic geothermal generators working once I'd located some lava.
Expect me to try again once I'm got a slightly better sense of my bearings.
im only playing on feed the beast/direwolf 20 this days
have a massive cool area in feed the beast
haven't played it for ages, I guess I should get back into it once, maybe I'll try out one of the servers you peeps linked :D
Ok so Blue Box is the Advertised server, so it's gray listed. I, or staff can add you to the build list. at least if they remeber. Or jsut PM me with your Minecaft In Game Name and I'll add you. The second server Little Sister is supposed to be a test bed, but well it's semi permanent. It has no build restrictions. Just be courteous there.
@ Elspeth
Build craft is fully working, but Oh my it takes some learning :) I'm sure one of the gang would be happy to help if you want it :D

Yes, I seem to have lost about a week of spare time getting familiar with Buildcraft and the other mods (and their quirks). Glad to have connected briefly on Little Sister. Hoping I had nothing to do with the server problems I was having in my brief time there so far. Will try again when I'm somewhere with more reliable connectivity.

You weren't the cause of any problems on the Lite server hon, Little sis has been quite unstable and the MC 1.5 update seems to have killed it. I have yet to see you on Big Sis at the same time I'm on though. it would be nice to meet you in game. :)
BTW my build site is nearly due East of spawn in the swamp just past the temple. :)
Colleen
Oh god, @Adelkhf single play is. it's not even half of the game. Whats your in-game-name? I'll add you to the build list on blue box. Bring all your friends! you don't need to ever use the techy stuff. but I bet you will eventually ^.^ Come play on Blue Box :D
@Elspeth Don't worry about the mods. tekkit works like normal minecraft. you download 1 .exe and run it. Login, and pick a server. Theres no need to mod anything your self! :D Id love to have you come join the Blue Box family :D
I used to play Tekkit with a bunch of friends. There are some pretty insane things that I have seen people do on there. I loved the ability to flying using the ring. I wasted so much time trying to make the Klein Star and armors.
Come over to the Dark Side of Minecraft.
I joined Jenny's server and the people there are amazing, accepting, welcoming and very talented. We don't tolerate greifing but the occasional non destructive prank is ok. :) (recently someones house was buried in cake. just for fun.) There are some epic builds going on as well, a quiet little village near spawn and to the East is the sub-orbital drydock where the NX-01 Enterprise is currently under construction Tekkit style. There is also a growing economy and members are buying and selling everything from raw materials to finished products. many of the shops are found in our underground shopping mall.
