I read Nero's post in the context of what do you like about what you're leaving behind and thought it would be a good thought exercise but didn't want to hijack his post. So here's a post for a list of what you like about the male social role.
1. I don't have to sit in public restrooms when I'm desperate enough I have to use one(eww)
2. I can go out alone at night or any time without needing to fear the people I might encounter.
3. Faster morning routine
4. ... maybe I can come up with more later?
I wouldn't say I like it but it was kinda nice to go into a hardware store without being treated like a bloody idiot.
In order to answer your question, I have to have been a man at some point in time; however, that isn't my case, so my answer is: NOTHING!

Actually that isn't required. :-)

Never been in that role? Ever seen people in that role do something you would like to do but can't because you live in the female role?
Honestly Nikki, I don't miss anything at all from that life. There were some good moments so to speak, but I always felt that I was an impostor living and experiencing a life that wasn't mine. The entire experience was a cruel, morbid joke from nature (or God) if you will, so no, there's nothing I miss.
tink :icon_chick:
-handshakes instead of hugs
-being able to do tasks for people (clean out the gutter/lift heavy items)
-opening up doors for people
-more comfortable clothes, better pattern/color
-thinking more with the head and less with emotion
-conversations are to the point most of the time
-able to talk about sports without people being impressed
that's all i can think of right now
The biggest one that stands out in my mind is-
People actually seeing who I am as a person, instead of what I look like. (this always made me feel trapped, all I've ever wanted was to be a mediocre looking man so people could actually SEE my personality)
My physical strength. It is non-existent now.

But I suppose transgirls feel the same way in reverse, so...not exclusively a male thing.
frankly not much. i'd love to kiss my gf on the lips without getting weird looks from people; that's about it.
not have to be sad about my infertility.
otherwise, there is NOTHING i like about being a male.
Can't think of one thing that I miss or liked about that side of myself, I'm far too happy being myself, with my eyes fixed on the future. :)
sex >:D
my muscles
my voice
my facial hair (gettin better latley)

you are handsome! =p I don't like being a male, but i love males! =D
I like my love of competition. I love competing at anything...sports, board games, card games, video games, anything.
I like being able to argue loudly with someone and be friends with them afterwards, rather than having it turn into a big grudge with tons of drama.
As for the fact that I'm physically male, yeah, I like being able to pee standing up, or in the woods (which is useful for a runner, hehe), and even though I think my physical strength is crap, it would be even more crap if I were physically female, so that's a plus.
Yay! I just posted in both the "Things you like about being male" and "Things you like about being female" threads.
I love being able to do both. ;D

I can't think of much that I liked about it, honestly...

I far prefer hugs, actually...
I honestly love NOT cleaning gutters or lifting heavy objects.
It took me ahile to get used to having doors opened for me (although I consider that more of a courtesy than something gendered...I still find myself holding doors open for people, male or female...).
actually, the good thing about being a male is i never had to worry about how i look..i can just get out of the house in 2 minutes and i don't have to worry about being judged because i look tired or don't smile or whatever. =/
I think it is a man's world because i feel like the public space is mostly a male territory and women are always being objectified and the men (and women, as well) are the one who are always looking and judging
The social role? Well...
1) Managing pretty well career-wise in a mostly female field. Figuring out my gender issues made me feel cheated somehow. ;)
2) Being married to a woman is much easier for a man.
3) The morning routines were so much simpler when I had a beard. Then again, lasers and electrolysis will take care of the need to shave.
Nfr
Not much, really. I can't remember anything from the age 10 and down, so that leaves 5 years of the only pure thought in my head; who am I?
-Sara :D
-Urinals are quicker
-Looser clothes ( I could never stand tight clothes, it felt wrong ;). 'Crossdressed' all my life until I came out as ftm)
-Not being seen as ignorant
-We can do more things without being questioned
-It's not seen as wrong if I walk around in clothes covered with mud, paint, etc and don't care about how I look
-Less maintenance to do on the body
-Going shirtless
-Helping move/lift things
-The male role in general :)
I am still looking and dressing male, but there is nothing I particularly like about any aspect of it. The only consolation is not having to sit on public toilets, but it is little consolation.
Otherwise, I have nothing to say that I like.
Not Applicable

So here's a post for a list of what you like about the male social role.
It's funny, everything I think of gets a "BUT" after it, lol...
I sometimes liked being my wife's "protector," and keeping her safe.... but I really wanted to be the one being protected.
I sometimes liked pleasing my wife as "a guy" to make her happy... but I really wanted to be the one desired as a woman by a guy.
I sometimes liked the "male privilege" of having an unspoken free passport to do whatever... but I hated that it came at the expense of being seen as a guy.
I liked being able to walk around without really ever thinking about safety... but I always wanted to be delicate and vulnerable.
I liked not really obsessing about looks or what people thought of me... but I SO longed to be pretty and cute to everyone.
Yep, I'm a gemini alright, lol...

June 8th here.
muscles & being strong being able to pee anywhere and not having to sit on public toilets. If i was not a man and was lost in the woods i do not think it would be easy too pee.
Not much.
Maybe:
- freedom of walking out at night alone
- clothes are tougher, more protective
- legs can go anywhere when I'm sitting down. :D
.
It's a bit thin though.
Guess who's a Gemini too!?

Isn't amazing, how fast we fell into the female role about our looks in the female? :o
-muscles
-hair that looks the same when I get up as it did when I went to bed
-being treated like I have a clue at the mechanic's and by clients
-takes me 10 minutes to shower and get ready
-clothes fit and are comfortable
-can pack for a two week trip in carry-on luggage
-women flirting with me
-guys treating me like a regular guy
-being able to take my shirt off when it's hot
-swim trunks are way better than women's bathing suits
-men's clothes are cheaper
-men's haircuts are cheaper and easier
-no periods
Pretty well everything.
Dennis
hmm.. If I could be a guy for a day, I'd like-
-No bras (when you get above a certain size, bras cease to be cute and pretty and start leaning toward "industrial strength".)
-no stockings/nylons/high heels (whoever created these must be in some form of hell right now. -- I almost never wear them but I hate it when I have to)
-People looking at my face not my boobs (see #1)
-People not looking at us funny or snide remarks when they find out I'm the one that is out of the house working, and my spouse is the one at home.
-peeing standing up... cause like.. come on... sounds like so much fun :D lol
- Guys neckties come in all sorts of cool colors and designs... If women wear something that 'loud' its considered tacky. LOOK at all these! http://www.wildties.com/store/?CMP=AFC-CJ
- Women have this expectation put on them to become pregnant... I'm 26 years old, and the family is already putting pressure on me... If a woman has no desire to ever become pregnant shes looked at like shes a lemer..
- no menstruating... its discusting.. you never feel clean, you're grouchy, and puffy, and its just a waste of time.
I was never male, not even my chromosomes are male. ;) hee hee hee

Yes, I am. :)
I'm not male and refute that I ever was but when others saw me as such there's only one thing which I liked:
Being able to make friends with straight guys without there beign sexual tension.
June 6 for me, so another Gemini checks in.
Really, I'm with tink on this. If there was anything I really liked about being male, I'd still be one. And no, I never really felt male. I felt I was play acting. I had to figure out what to do by watching other guys, but my feminine responses have always been natural. It was having to suppress them that gave me all the anguish.
Anyway, if there was anything to that whole male thing, I never got the memo.

Don't sweat it, Sandy. There was no memo. :)

Thank, that settles my confusion. :D
How long before you found that out and how did you feel before you were told about your intersex condition?
Peeing standing up (its so handy at times)
Much less surface area to shave
Not holding grudges
And everything else they said
Not a Gemini here, I'm a Cancer.
I guess having the world as your urinal
And being able to eat a banana anywhere.

Quote from: Yvonne on May 02, 2007, 10:58:24 PM
I was born intersex with a smaller than usual penis, one deformed testicle and ovarian tissue. My parents and the doctors decided to assign me as male because they thought I'd be happier that way. ::) I hated my bloody bits because they made me something I was not. :'( I hated the doctors for making an operation on me that made me an unhappy person. I hated my parents for allowing that to happen. my life was changed with that bloody operation that should have never happened. I'm still annoyed because it made my life a bloody nightmare.
I had MTF genital surgery two years ago and I'm finally living a life that makes sense to me.
Nothing, really. Tink summed up my thoughts rather well. While I get insulted at people for assuming I'm stupid (for any reason, but moreso for being a woman), I'd rather people think I'm a stupid woman than a smart man. People who make assumptions like that, though, aren't worth the trouble of proving my intelligence to! <-<;;
I replied an earlier version of this...I said I liked the solitary elements of malehood. I like to be able to walk off alone and watch people, which seems a male thing.
In an answer to the question:
My sexdrive, emotional stability, rationality, thinking of me first then on others (in my femininity this is the other way around, so i have it both), higher self-confidence, my anger, the feeling of testosterone raging in my blood, I feel more at ease when I am in my masculinity, higher emotional strength, technical thinking, my humor, a high amount of energy and feeling creative which I use to write stories, .... and my sexdrive again ;D
And sometimes being a jerk and I care far less about that when I am on the masculine side hehe ;D
I have answered both questions as I feel both and neither. It's not completely black and white though.

This is so funny HT because these are things I HATE about being a guy! I hate sports, and I want to hug, not shake hands, etc, etc.
I searched and searched for things I'll miss and I can't think of any. I'll give this more thought though.
ooooh my turn!
1. Being flat chested. Not that i am yet.... but i like to pretend.
2. being able to voice my opinion from a male point of view without being looked at funny
3. lack of girl things that happen to you every month. That really is a living nightmare
4. i can live in a dump and get away with it
5. I now have an excuse as to why i dont know how to use household appliances
6. the looks i get from teh females 8)
7. being able to put make-up and wear womens clothes and feel bad (as in naughty) about it because now i feel like i'm breaking a few rules
-muscles
check!
-hair that looks the same when I get up as it did when I went to bed
check!

nope, lots of resentment
-being able to take my shirt off when it's hot
a huge advantage!
-swim trunks are way better than women's bathing suits
I wouldn't know! Always wore shorts with a tank top.
-men's clothes are cheaper
definitely made to last longer!
-men's haircuts are cheaper and easier
cut my own hair
-no periods
ditto
All in all, about a wash for me. That's why I live in the middle.
