Title: My first new high heels!
Post by: Albina on January 29, 2013, 10:39:05 PM
Hi guys!
The spring is not too far behind the mountains, and I'd like to get prepared for the warm season and buy my first high heels! I recently dropped by our best Italian shoes boutique Basconi, where I bought my first fall and winter high boots. There just arrived a very nice new collection of high heels. I especially loved lacquered black and velvet vinous ones - they are just fabulous. The heels are 12 cm on a platform of 2 cm. The models are in the style of the latest fashion. My girl friend and I go there this Friday, and I probably buy both pairs to go with my black and red dresses I showed you before. I am So Excited to wear them already!

I love heels too! But God are them things torture devices! Sometimes the best thing about them is you can take them off. Anyway congrats on the new shoes.

Thank you, Heather! So nice of you.
I agree that they are not so comfortable to wear. But sometimes we need to tolerate inconveniences to look absolutely feminine. And they make a whole lot of difference. IMO, high heels are a must have item in a wardrobe of any fashionable girl.

I love that you get excited about shoes. They've never had that effect on me, but I do like the look of heels and wear them some of the time. I'm long waisted, so wearing heels with jeans makes my legs look long enough.

12cm is 4 1/2 inches. Those are really high ones. I don't  have anything higher than 3.

Thank you for your comments, Lyric!
It is funny, but my sister and my girl friend said recently the same words, that they draw the love to feminity and self-respect from me!
..I probably was envy of the girls for too long so that now I am so excited.

As it is winter here, high heel boots are a trend among young girls. Most girls in the street wear > 4 inch (10 cm) heels. Although ankle strap can give extra support, 4-inch heels are still uncomfortable to walk long while carrying a big bag. It is just a small difference of 1 inch (2.5 cm), but I am a little bit preoccupied with the height of heels. I sometimes wear 4 inch heel boots, but 3-inch heels are just as comfortable as plain athletic shoes. I avoid thigh-high boots for some hygienic issue.

An amazing thing here, especially in Seoul, is that some girls wear just sheer nude stockings under short pants at -10 degree Celcius (14 degree F) temperature. The girl in the above photo is better, as she is wearing at least long boots and tights.

I just wonder whether there is any biological difference between legs of men and women in enduring the coldness.

A nice post, Barbie!
The heightened by 2 cm platform will make my heels the usual and popular 10 cm high.
Wow, you've got a lot of show!
I also was wondering about girls wearing only thin stockings, but nowadays (at least in our country) they wear warm and thermo leggings - they are very soft (I've got a pair). I can tell you that girls are more susceptible to the cold than men - I myself now experince it, so easily freezing.

I too am infatuated with the look of high heels.  Unfortunately I am afflicted with age, and cannot wear them, so i remain envious of you younger fasionistas.

And yes, geneticallly, the female skin is thinner ( also induced by HRT) and thus females are more susceptible to the cold.

I love heels as well, but I try to avoid them since I'm tall and have big feet, rather not bring attention to those details even more than they already are =(

Don't mind me popping in for a minute, but from my observations, a lot of women will absolutely sacrifice comfort for looks. My sister would freeze her rear end off by wearing uggs and a tiny fluffy jacket in a blizzard instead of actually dressing warmly.

Oh my pretty, but they are tall heels! I've actually seen a woman run half a block to her car in heels like that, I don't know how she did it and so gracefully. Some women who have to dress up for work wear sports shoes enroute and carry their heels in a bag to wear once they get there, probably because they hurt their feet. My spouse had both feet repaired from Bunyan's caused by wearing heels all day in the workplace. There is a lot of pressure applied to just the ball of a woman's foot while wearing high heels. They do make a woman's ankles and calves look pretty though.

I've learned a few tricks over the years on making high heels more comfortable. I am guessing you girls already know, but just in case someone is new to heels I'll write it down.

Always get high heel inserts. I like the "ball of feet" cushions, and there's also other stick on ones for the straps. I also like the stick-on padding that goes on the back of the heel (for non-strap heels), it cuts down on the shoe digging into your ankle, and it also makes shoes that have stretched out a little fit better. Also, if there's options, don't get the gel inserts, because they get really gooey and nasty, get the foam ones.

If you are wearing heels that aren't the strap, sandle like style, get the sheer liners. They have some that goes over your entire foot (except for the top that will show), and they comes in a variety of colors to match your shoes just in case a bit of the liner shows. They also make toe liners for heels that only cover the toes. You can often get these in the sock or panty hose section of the store.

If you don't have liners, or you are wearing the sandle type of heels, putting a bit of baby powder on the shoe will help prevent your feet from sticking to the heel and causing blisters.

Those are some great tips, LearnedHand. When I wear heels, they're usually boots and since I'm a women's 10 1/2 (US) I usually have to buy size 11. I find a pair of booty socks are just right for filling the extra space and giving me some extra cushioning.

Just as a tip, 2 inch heels are the most podiatrists would advise before serious foot damage becomes a real concern. Also, use block heels, not the thin stick ones. It's easier to stay in balance on a block heel.

LearnedHand, DianaP,

Thank you for your useful advices! I will use them in my new life.

Update: Yesterday I was in the boutique trying on the shown above high heels. I got really uncomfortable in them and thought that it is better to get the ones not so high. May be 2 or 3 inch high.

The lower ones will be a lot easier on your feet, and they are more healthy like DianaP said. As you get used to walking in heels you'll eventually feel more comfortable in the higher ones, so never fear, those stillettos could still be in the future for you.  ;D

LOL though, I used to work in a nursing home, and some of the old ladies who've worn high heels all of their lives eventually got shorter hamstrings and could only walk around on their tip toes, so if you wear heels all the time remember to do hamstring stretches.  :D

Hey LearnedHand!
I know what you mean. Actually, the heels and toes are made of normal (not croco type) leather. Overall, that pattern looks really nice (and those were the best looking and the most expensive pair of high heels in our city's popular shoes store.
I am really happy now!
Thank you, LearnedHand, your comments are so encouraging and helpful for me!

Diana, they are not so tiresome as they may seem. After a bit of walking, I felt I am getting used to that height. The heels are 10 cm = 4 inches high on a platform of 2 cm, which actually makes heels of 8 cm high.

I usually see this old lady, she looks around 80, walking in these 3-4 inch heels down the side walk, wearing a little skirt and carrying a pretty handag every morning. She has to walk really slow and bent over, but it's just like, high-five lady, dress how you want and feel pretty right to the end.

No doubt the dresses would look their best with these high heels.

To give you an idea how they look, I have found a similar shoe in the catalog. Though mine are a combination - the inner side made of black crocodile-looking leather, and the outer side is made of black suede.

Thank you, dear Shan - it means so much for me!  ;)

..OK, guys, the story of my first high heels goes on. After a couple of days of trying them out at home, I had to conclude that they are not so comfortable to go for a long distance which I'd like to go.
So, today I went back to that store and asked to switch them for something more comfortable. They agreed - good folks!
And OMG!, what I saw on the shelf were my favorite lacquered high heels with an ankle strap! Most model girls on FTV are wearing them now. The heels are thick and steady, and a bit lower than the previous ones - 8 cm high. The color of the shoes is dark grey & black on the toes and heels. Overall, they look and feel great. So, here is the pic (unfortunately, the pic is not so good as they really are):

Those are really cute, they'll probably be much easier to walk in.

Another heel tip: always keep two small nude colored bandaids in your purse because sometimes the straps get a little twisted and dig into the ankle.

Albina,
Yay, I'm so happy your appointment went well.  I LOVE heels too, although I don't wear them often as they're not very conducive to running after my son! Can't let him get away from me:)after LH gave such a helpful ti about the bandaids...I'll also tell you a tip that I have done SO many times.  If I'm going out to an event of course I want to wear the cute heeled shoes, even if they are painful! So I wear flip flops without any heels there, then when I'm just getting out of the car put the heels on, stuff the flats in my purse just in case I absolutely can't take the. Heels anymore at some point during the night.  I mean after an hour or two everyone will have already seen the heels and commented on how cute they are anyway, right! Oh, well, happy about your new heels....I'm sure you're totally rocking them.

I love my high heel boots... Learning to walk in them was tricky, I found a video on-line when i was learning and i practiced the tips and now I walk quite easily in them.  I can last with the best of them in my heels.

My feet do get sore, The heels in my avatar can make my feet sore, but i was told by a girl.. beauty can be painful... be a girl and take it.

The have like a 2.5 inch heel, but they are super comfortable and look great with jeans too.  I was with a friend to support a band....but these are the only stilletto heeled boots that I've worn that have actually been comfy. I got them at macy's they can still be found at macys.com if you're interested in this type of boot. They're leather and warm too.

Thank you for sharing your pic - it is wonderful, though as you always are.  ;)

Congrats on the new heels :) I don't get to wear them often but on those rare occasions rock them out!

I cannot wait to get a nice pair of heels. I want some jeffrey campbell spiked lolita's I think they are called.
Right now the only thing close to heels I have is knee high 4 inch platform boots. lol

Thanks Albina, you are too sweet. I can't wait to see all the new spring lineup you're going to have, you're such a fashionista that you even inspire a jeans and tee shirt mom like me to want to go back to the skirts and heels!

Oh my, I can't wait to see all of the european styles for spring/summer. Thanks for the heads up on the dates, I guess it will be something to look forward to to mid to late march then!

...OK, I should tell that the story of my first new high heels was not ended yet lol!
After a while, I had to admit that my previous ones (on p. 3 here) don't go perfectly well with some of my dresses. I was thinking I had better chosen more classic looking ones. ...So, I made a trip back to that store today. The sales girls are awesome  :D - they switched them for me again! To compensate for 2 returns commotion, I bought a nice narrow black leather belt (for some of my dresses).
...So, I finally bought the black leather high heels (4 inches), which fit my legs even better. This is final, I love them!
Here they are:

Probably a more sensible choice shopper girl! These will better mix and match with your ensembles though the ankle straps are cute, I always felt that they are kind of a dated style.

Love them Albina! Although I do love ankle straps, aunt shan is right...that style comes and goes so often that you may have to stop wearing them after one season only to find that a few years from now they're back in again! I like the new choice, I'm sure the belt will be great too!

Hey auntie Shan and Spring!

Yeah, I thought that my first ones should be more classic looking, tho modern type.

I may probably buy these ones with straps (or something alike, probably light-colored)  for summer:

Yeah, the belt is just a perfect match for the heels.
It is already getting warmer in my country, and I am planning to go out on March 8 (International Women's Day) in a dress, these heels and a belt. I already do now where I will go...  :D

Pretty girly looking heels Albina, I may have to fly over there and build you a nice big walk-in closet with n extra large shoe rack! My wife has so many pairs of shoes that you'd think I was married to a millipede!  ;D
