I thought that it might be interesting to see how this forum measures up to the population as a whole. Women's turn first. Don't worry, it's anonymous!
5' 10" here (or maybe a little taller or shorter since I haven't measured myself in 20 years).
But yes I am tall and have a large frame.

5'6 here.

I'm not thrilled that I'm "winning" this poll, lol...
But ya know, the really odd thing is I'm *less* self-conscious about my height now, as a girl, than I was as a guy.
Strange...

5ft 9ins now
Buffy
It's not how tall you are.
It's how you carry it that matters.
Don't be frumpy, be statuesque.
Think Sigourney Weaver.
I guess I beat you Kate, I measure up at about 6' 5 1/2".
I'm tall, I'm sexy, and I challenge the world to deal with it because I already have :).
Megan
5'9" - same as Buffy.
#14 (14T, when I can find it) on top, plus or minus 2
#10T +/-2 on bottom.
I wish I was more average proportioned -- I see so many things I want to wear, but the hem would be higher than I like, and it doesn't come in Talls...

You are so pretty. You have very good reason to exude confidence. :)

Im 6' 4" and I like being taller than most people it makes me feel more superior than them. I wish the council would trim those tree branches that keep getting in my way on the side walk though! You trees think your so good getting in my way all the time. Just because your taller than me doesnt mean your better than I am does it?
5'8" almost petite ;)
5'9''
I'm less than 1/2 an inch away from 6 foot (1.82m), so I often say 6 foot, but I'm closer to 5.11 1/2.
The funny thing is that how "tall" you feel, not are, depends more on where you live.
A 6 foot 1 woman in Holland still has 1% of women taller than her.
In Montreal, a 5 foot 10 women has 1% of women taller than her!!!!
Quebec women are on average only 5 foot 4 tall (taller for younger women, but less for older ones).
So, if I'd move to Holland, I'd be quite average, but not here. At 6 foot, there's probably only 1 women in a 5000 who is as tall or taller than me. In one year, I've never seen ANY!!!
wow. It's kind of odd that 5'6 to under 5'8 has the most votes. That's considered quite short for a genetic male. I would've assumed most ladies here would be in the 5'11 - 6'0 range.

I bump into 6' women occasionally around here, such as every other trip for groceries, etc. It's uncommon for sure, but not that unusual. The woman working across the hall from me is around 6'0"+, her daughters being even taller. Of course her husband is around 6'6", so... ;)
I'm really early-on in this fulltime thing, but so far I haven't noticed any pointing and staring because of my height. A few curious looks perhaps, but that's about it.
~Kate~
I see a lot of 6-foot women these days, just like Kate says. I'm convinced there are many more today than when I was a kid. I love seeing them out and about; each one makes me that much less of a statistical anomaly. When I went to a feminist religion conference last year, I was delighted to meet the Goddess thealogy scholar Carol Christ (http://www.goddessariadne.org/carolwords.htm). Goddess is right--she stands 6'2" in her stockinged feet. And she wore heels.
When I first started presenting female, at 5'11" I did not dare to wear heels, shy because of my height. But after several months, I could not resist a very chic pair of black suede boots which got me lots of compliments. Since then, I've been wearing high heels, hold my head up, and stand statuesque and proud.
When I reached my full height in youth, I was five eleven and a half. But at my last visit to the doctor, I got a surprise. I'm down to 5'10" now. I've dropped a shoe size too. I'd heard HRT can shrink a trans lady, but never believed it until it happened to me. :)
I'm 5'7" if I stand really straight and stretch my neck a little. ROFL You know, it used to bother me when I was young that I wasn't taller but then when I saw my TALL friends aboard ship with stitches in their heads from running into metal things that didn't move......and when I found out I didn't have to shop in the Talls area unless I wanted a top with a little extra length....
Beverly
I'm about 5'8 3/4 now. I hardly think about height, although I did think about it a lot upon going fulltime at first. I still rarely wear heels, but now that hormones has done more work, I wouldn't be so self conscious. I really shouldn't be since my ex, who is 5'10", will wear heels without a second thought. Also, I frequently see women the same height as me or taller. One advantage with height is that it make you appear thinner for your weight, which lends itself to a more feminine appearance.
5'8" but I usually have on a pair of at least two inch heels, wedge sandals whatever is appropriate for the season so still under 5'10" but my 4" do me pumps are a different story :D
172cm which I think is 5'7.5".

16 are over 5 foot 10,
14 are under 5 foot 8.
10 are 5 foot 8 to 5 foot 10
The male average in north america is I think is a bit under 5 foot 10 (female average 5 foot 5).
So, I think that gives an average close to the north american male average even though our sampling is less than perfect.
Thundra,
I did a "weighted average" of 41 responses and the answer was 5'10" with +/- one inch for interval classifications. That probably means that height does not determine if you are transgendered.
By the way Megan you are pretty and have a great smile.
I absolutely loathe my height. I'm 6'5".. I'm really in the upper tier as far as heights go and I wish there was something I could do about it. I'm jealous of all you shorter girls.

I was reaching the same conclusion. While it "seems" that the group is a tad above average, the sampling group is anything but scientific. I think that proves that women that transitioned are just like any other group - very diverse.
5ft 8inches Not too tall thank goodness.
I'm 5' 6"
Not quite 5'6". About a half inch short.
OK... how about "goddesses"?
Id just like to say all you short girls think your so feminine being shorter than me dont you? When in fact you dont know what your missing out on. The view from up here. The clean air! The feeling of looking down on the human race! Oh God I feel great walking around with everyone thinking "Whats the weather like up there?"
Just because your tall doesnt mean you dont look feminine and sexy. I certainly do. So there!
Oh yeah Im still 6'4" and shrinking (unfortunately). Thanks to HRT.
Now and into the future people will and now find it hard to believe that such a body is for real. With my cherry lips and golden curls.
So tall girls stand proud for we are truly blessed with longer sexier legs and features that make the guys go crazy for something out of the ordinary!
Well, I like being right in the middle of our distribution, feeling so sorry for those at either end. :P
Seriously, ladies, this is getting silly. Everyone is beautiful in her own way.
I'm the smurf of the group I guess at 5'1"
Back in the seventies, there were three gals six feet or taller in my high school, and none of them were teachers!
Nowadays, everywhere I go, there are women towering over me. So, yeah, I'd say things have changed. Back when my Mother was a young woman in the first half of the last century, at 5'8" she was a giant. Now she falls toward the median average height.
I've also noticed that heights seem to fall along state lines too. Back east, I saw a lot fewer women at six feet or taller, but out west, they are not unusual atall. In Colorado, there were lots of women 6'4" or better, and thin as rails too. Women in the NW can be tall, but they tend to be much rounder and hippier. All puns intended.

I am a little over 6' (180 cm). Tallness runs in my ancient ancestors.
Actually, 1m80 is under six foot, its 5 foot 11, I know because I'm 1.82 (my height), very close to 6 foot, but not 6 foot, which is 1m83.

Maybe it's because of all of the people who have been transitioning on the west coast. :D
I am 6ft 1 myself. I have a ritual whenever I see a woman that may be taller than me. Come on the journey with me for a moment.
I will be walking around a store and notice said woman. I stop in place, check for heels and then walk past her. I then circle back around and walk right past her where I can compare my height and hers. :D Usually she is slightly shorter than me and I curse under my breath. Just Kidding
Charlotte
In 10 years, I have yet to find a woman taller than me, even TS I know, I know many, are all smaller than me!! Montreal must be the short woman capital of north america.
People always says so and so is so tall, she's just as tall as you, then I get to see this "giantess" and she's only 5 foot 10. When a woman is taller than them, people have much problems estimating how tall she really is. This works to our advantage since for most, being 5 foot 10 or 6 foot 1 is all the same, a tall woman.
Sometimes I think I am the center of a very well planned joke sort of like the Truman Show. My friends always tell me how the often run into very tall women and I do not, so I have come up with a theory.
Everyone knows where I am going to go shopping and when. All of the tall women go elsewhere and I am surrounded by my tiny friends and itty bitty size -4s who I miss if I don't look down.

im 5'9, and know lots of women taller, one of my best friends has an inch on me :)

I'm 5' 10" 146 pounds, wear juniors 7-9/misses 4-6 slacks, juniors L-XL/misses M tops, a 36A bra and size 10 womens shoes- I see at most 2-3 girls my height a day and it seems to be a lot more common for younger people in their teens or 20's than their 50's like me. I'm sure that's part of the reason I am often told I look to be in my 30's.
Here are some actual US height statistics:

All that said, I'm just not that tall that I get side ways glances. I dress around my body like every other flatchested beanpole, avoid vertical stripes like the plague but I
refuse to live in flats. LOL, at my height a couple more inches doesn't really matter although I just don't wear anything over a 3 1/2" heel.
But the interesting part is the conversations I have with strangers. Women come up to me out of the blue, ask me if I am a model because I am so tall and pretty (tall yes, but pretty is a stretch). They go on about how lucky I am to be tall, how they always wished they were tall and they invariably have a niece or granddaughter who is six foot plus and want to know where I buy my slacks.
Height and skinniness are coveted attributes in our culture. I may be taller than the norm but after 2 ½ years, 1000 or so hours presenting as female, I just don't feel it affects my ability to pass.

I wanna shrink too! I'm 5'7 :'(
Age, scoliosis and HRT have robbed me of 3+ inches in the last 5-7 years. I'm thrilled to be in "model range" presenting as a girl (5'10" is minimum) but it kinda sux when I present as a guy...
Still another 6' 2" Colorado skycrane. I am not bothered with it.

I think the most amazing thing about this thread was looking through the names of some of the posters back in 2007. They were many of the people I got strength from through transition. That's pretty awesome. Most don't come here anymore, I hope they are doing well :)

I'm 5'8" and fine with it. I'd prefer to be taller but it's not a big deal. My favorite rapper was 5'8" too. ;) And many cisgender guys are shorter than me, I've observed.

I just got out the tape measure and checked to see if I've grown any in the years since I've had a height check. Well, I've grown about a quarter of an inch. I am now 5' 4.5". Still tiny and not a thing to be done for it. At least I'm easy to cuddle?
5'5 I'm looking at the poll average and feeling short =(
*EDIT* oh dang, sorry...didn't realize this was for the ladies =P
5'3", I guess? These measurements confuse me. I prefer to say I'm 1,63m.
Compact man!
I'm 5' 10 1/2" but I wish I was 5'8" that way I wouldn't look so tall in 4 inch heels.
5,7 the calculator says so I guess that's it ???
6'3" I was 6'4" I wish I could stop growing outwards! I stopped growing at 14 and became the most popular kid in my school year when I could get served to buy alcohol. Being tall put me off changing for a long time but now I love it Amazons rock!
I'm about 5'10", some google researching has told me that is average height for men, and being FAAB, that makes me a pretty happy chap.
I'm still the shortest in my family though, my mum's a wee bit taller than me and although my sister hasn't outgrown me yet, she'll probably hit 6 feet in a couple of years, she's still a young teen after all.
5'7". It's weird though because here in PDX I see so many girls that are my height or taller...especially teens.

Ok so a lot of you are claiming to have lost height while on HRT. I seem to be having the opposite.
I was 5'5 at 16 years old (17?) when they originally took my picture for my license.
After a few months of hormones my Dr. measured me at "5'6 and 3 quarters."
I measured myself last night at 5'8 !?!?!?!?!
So did I go through a growth spurt? maybe im not measuring properly? I was always the SHORTEST male or female until high school, then I was just shorter than most guys in my highschool, but about average amongst the girls. Weird.
Growth spurts are usually controlled by the human growth hormone. As long as your growth plates have not fused, you can gain height. It is not unusual for a 46, XY person to have a growth spurt in their late teens to early 20's.
Of course if you have too much HGH after that, you can develop acromegaly and look like Andre the Giant, or pumpkin-headed Barry Bonds.
I grew an extra inch taller when I was 22, right in the middle of mononucleosis - and got broader too, and all my shirts ripped across the back, à la Hulk. It was exhausting. Plus I needed new shirts. And new trousers, since all my old ones had suddenly become capris ::).
I can second the growth spurt experiences on HRT! Nearly three years in I gained an entire inch to my height out of nowhere, whereas before I was solidly 5ft 6in. Thank you, estrogens~
5'1" short and proud! ;)

I used to wish I was 5'9 but there are definite advantages to being tall.
Somewhere between 5' and 5' 1"
I'm only 5'6, but I wish I was taller :( to be 6' would be magnificent.
Im 6 feet and 1/2 inches :)
6" 1 and 1/2" I,'ve shrunk with middle age
Somewhere between 5'5.5 to 5'6.5 or maybe 5'4 ??? it's been 2-3 years since I last checked my height. :-\
So I've selected 5'4~5'6.
6 feet and one half-inch.
That half-inch is important.
I'm 6' and holding.
170 cm
or 5 ' 7 " for the metrically challenged ???
Somewhere between 5'4'' and 5'5'', I've not measured my height in a while!
I'm 5' 7.5" tall. I was a shrimp until I got to be about 27, and then my weight jumped from 120 to 175, my waist size jumped from 27 to 32, and everything else filled out. I'm told that my dad did the same around the same age.
I can usually pass for 5'9" but in reality I think it's more like 5'7" or 5'8".
~5'10" though that's up for debate as everyone swears I'm an inch taller than that.
6'2"
I'm around 5'5" last time I checked. It's a real blessing because that's an average height for women. :)
I'm 5'3". Very lucky for being a MtF
I'm around 5'5". It'll be nice to be average height instead of short :)
5'10"
Perfect for modelling, but I wouldn't mind losing a few inches.
I believe I am 5'10 so that is what I selected in the pool. But I haven't measured my height in awhile so unsure.
Tonight, I'm 6'. Then again, I have 2" heels on. ;D
I'm actually below average in my family at 5'10, most of my family is 6'0 or taller, even the other women. I like being 5'10 though, the only thing I'd like to change would be to go from a size 11 shoe to a 9 or 10 only because it can be hard to find shoes I love in 11.
I'm 5'2... but that's because I'm 'ethnic,' lol! ^-^
'bout 5'11".
Saw something really cute last year when I was renewing my drivers license... there was a pretty old fella at the station next to me - he must've been a fair way into his 80's, or so... a bit shrunken with age - and the clerk asks him: "Are you still 6'1"?"
He looks at her as though he's thinking of what an odd question it is, and says the obvious - "Yes, mamn."
:)
I am 5' 7+", so my driver's license says that I am 5' 8".
5'7" and for South Asia that, that's tall.
I love the beautiful bell curve

I'm just under 6'2", I'd happily give you 4" if I could
5'7" here but today I'm almost 6'. :)
I'm between 5'8 and 5'9. On the taller end but not so bad.
I am 6' (tall :( ) and 29" waist, 34" hips.
It looks like a lot of us are on the 5'6-5'10 side.
I'm very jealous of you taller guys and gals, though!

It's not how tall you are.
It's how you carry it that matters.
Don't be frumpy, be statuesque.
Think Sigourney Weaver.
Sigourney weaver is my hero!!! Who else can take out a
Nest of aliens solo?? Hey?hey?
And she js one big woman and very sexy coz she is sooo strong.
I wish I can beike her.
Possibly 5'11, maybe 6. I haven't measured in ages.
Rather tall. Nothing against being tall.
Rather short.
5'3-5'4". An extra 2 or 3 inches wouldn't hurt.
5'7"
I'm 6'2" and proud of it! When I first started transitioning I was ashamed of my height that is no longer the case. For the first time in my life I'm starting to love my height! ;D And besides the people who look down on me for being trans actually have to look up just to see me. ;)
Somewhere between 5'4" and 5'5". No doctor gives the same answer.
I thought I was 6'2" tall for pretty much my entire adult life, but at my last doctor's appointment they said that I'm 6'0.5", so apparently I've shrunk a bit. Still pretty damned tall, though.
And honestly, I am VERY glad that my (female) childhood best friend ended up growing to a whopping 6'3" tall. Although I haven't talked to her in years, just looking at her Facebook pictures and seeing that she's actually taller than me, and has broader shoulders than me, and yet looks 100% female with no troubles whatsoever, is a HUGE inspiration.
So yeah, I do wish I was a couple of inches shorter so that I didn't stand out so much (there are a LOT of women I know in the 5'10" range, just very few around the 6' range,) but I'm not letting it bother me too much anymore. I think my weight is a bigger issue... because it's still lingering around some masculine areas that make me look a bit hefty rather than curvy like most tall overweight women. (But hey, HRT has been VERY kind to me in terms of curves so far, so give it a few more years and I expect I'll probably blend right in.)
5'9" for me.
4'11" without shoes. :(
5'6 in flats!
5'10½"
I'd rather be smaller, but I don't think I'm tall enough to stand out. Except I love boots so much I can't resist! I just bought a pair with 3½" heels, so I'm kinda defying my own fears. I think hearing, "Whoa! She's huge! But those are some badass boots!" is a fair trade-off. ;D
I'm a 6 footer too . . . not easy.
I'm 5' 10", tall for a woman ,but I am what I am, a tall woman.
Last week at a Jimmy Buffett concert I saw a young lady (cis) in her mid twenties I think, she was wearing what looked like four inch wedge sandals and she towered over most of the people around her. Another cis woman asked how tall she was without hells and she said 6'. That seems tall, but she was stunning, elegant and just plan sexy! Point is, it's not how tall you are, it's how you carry yourself.

My mom is 5'10. She looks very good and has pretty long legs. I'm 5'5. The rest of my family is tall so I don't know what happened with me. But 5'10 is a great height. Be happy with it. I'd love to be that tall.
Im 5'4" and very husky, always have been. It is real hard for me to loose weight. But it is what it is.
I'm 5' 7" and very thin. I have bony narrow hips that bother me, but I'm mostly happy with what I have.
My girlfriend is 5', so I always feel huge around her. She likes it, but me not so much.
I'm 5'7 &.1/3rd or exactly 171cm. I wanted to be 5'10" when I was a kid, but I got my Mom's short gene and stopped growing. I'm the shortest of my siblings, the tallest being 6'5".

5'11 1/2" but I have osteoarthritis so I plan to lose some height soon enough! I knew everything had an advantage!! HA

I never posted my actual height....I'm like 5'5" or 5'6" - Hence...Why I hang out with short people..To FEEL tall.
According to all of the height to weight charts at the Dr., I am simply too short for my weight!
6'2". I still wear heels. I just think runway model!

I wonder why height always varies at the drs.office. My first Dr told me I was 5'5. Then when I started seeing a new GCP she measured me and told me I was 5'4. I'm only 19 so its not like I could have shrunk.

Your height can vary pretty greatly throughout the day. Taller in the morning, shorter in the evening.

I'm 5' 4" when last measured. It's lovely being on a forum where people boast about how short they are.
Quote from: Nero on July 05, 2007, 10:19:09 PM
wow. It's kind of odd that 5'6 to under 5'8 has the most votes. That's considered quite short for a genetic male. I would've assumed most ladies here would be in the 5'11 - 6'0 range.
American men are a little bit shorter, on average, than the late Nero's estimate. However, I now live in a country where people born physically male are about an inch shorter than in the US. Men in Japan tend to be shorter still. This is an international website, so perhaps that is why the mode of the heights is shorter than Nero expected. At a glance, it does look like a normal distribution, like the general population.
Today I am 5'11", but I am 68 years old. About 10 years ago I measured 6'1.5". Everybody shrinks a little when they get to be my age.
5'10''. I used to be jealous I was the only one out of male family members that wasn't over 6'(most coming in at 6'2'' and 6'3''). Now I couldn't be more thankful I'm only slightly taller than my sister.
Hi girls 🙋🏼 I'm 5-10 now, I used to be 5-11 when I was younger.

5'9"
I'm 5'9, would love it if I lost a few inches with HRT. I know it's not a typical result but I've seen it mentioned a few times.
I've been 6'5" since I was 14 but now I am 6'2" sounds crazy. I mean I could understand if I had scoliosis like my brother.
I think I dropped half to three quarters of an inch according to measurement just took at random. It's not HRT, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too early for that to have anything to do with it. Maybe I was trying to salvage male ego in the past saying I was at least 5'10 (average) and convinced even myself. Whatever the reason, it's a win now!

LOL, I was 5' 10" once myself but the last time I was measured I was 5' 7 1/2". So either there's more gravity or I'm shrinking :( This was before HRT.

Didn't go down that much. Always was told I was 6'3" since high school. My doctor now has never had me over 6'2", even before the HRT. I think it's the extra 30 to 80 pounds (about 35 right now) I've carried around with me over the years that's compressed my spine.
Only time it really bothers me is clothes shopping. Most places don't carry tall sizes so things that fit other wise are not long enough. Had the same issues to a lesser extent with male clothes.

Grow 'em tall here in the UK.
Actually 6'5'' and hopinng HRT may shrink mw a bit.

Does the nickname Big D give you a hint. Started out just under 6' 5" Now 6'3" They certainly were not talking about the dangly bits.
Aha! Big D at McD in Dow-nee.
I'm 5'6" and I've always seen my height as one of my best features. Like it's just a comfortable and practical height to be at.
In college I was 5' 4" going on 5' 5" if my hair was fluffed up....
after more that 3 years of HRT I am now barely making 5' 4"
Danielle
Somewhere around 6'1. Good height for a man, bit tall for a woman. I would say I'm an Amazon, but I'm afraid poor Gal Gadot might wake up in the middle of the night screaming. The height does make clothes shopping difficult, especially for pants and things with long sleeves.
I'm 5'6"; shorter than 2 of my sisters. :/
I'm shorter than about 90% of the folks here. Fortunately, I've learned how to use a sewing machine to hem my clothes. ;D
I am 6' 1". I use that to my advantage. If I notice anyone looking at me longer than usual I assume it is just because I am a tall woman!
6 foot. My hope is to blend among many tall girls in Darwin.
I am 5'5" and all the benefits there off.
I'm 5'7 and 1/4th". I purposely didn't want to post here until I had my height measured at a doctor's office, which I did the other day..
Before transitioning I would always say 5'8" because 5'7" seems short for a guy (it's really not though)

I'm almost 5'6" but not quite. It's nice to be tiny. Used to suck trying to find men's clothes and shoes, but now I couldn't be happier with the options I have lol
Yes, if you are tiny you can get all sorts of great deals on women's clothes. They are the last to disappear off the rack and get marked down all the time!
CIS women complain about this all the time. The sale rack will be filled with clothes too small for them to wear.

I might have voted back in 2019 but I can't remember. I just see the results.
