OK people the new site is here.
woooooooo ;D
There is a popup that requires username and password. I cannot remember my password!!! now I need to reset it. I have tried to use the login screen, but it says I don't exist!
We are working on resolving the problem please wait patiently
Figured it out and got it reset, but still having the authentication required pop-up! All I had to do was hit cancel on the pop-up and it lets me around until the next page.
BEAUTIFUL site BTW!!! GREAT WORK!!!
Bear with us fixing a few issues, trying to find the bugs.
The front page of the new site is wonderful and I can see myself coming here even more often if you are going to be covering transgender issues that are in the news.
One small thing is that there appears to be some rendering issues when using the forums - just minor things like the bullet points for the "Home Help Search..." links wandering around and not behaving.
Very beautiful redesign all considered!

Please clear your cache to fix this problem with the "bullets" !
OR close down all of your browsers and relaunch them.
Amazing work everyone - looks great!
Nice :)

ah. just woke and wow.

I was wondering what was going on :P I'm glad it wasn't a hacker attack or anything malicious :)
omg! looks so weird from my phone. everything is like smashed together. I can still read and comment but it doesn't look the same. actually it's a look better for my phone. I like a lot
like like!
Fantastic!! I really like the new concept and graphics!!!
But if I may ask, is there any way to open the website maybe by using a different URL where the graphics can be eliminated or more toned down similar in appearance to the old website? I sometimes like to look around in an environment that would not be receptive to all of the new and beautiful graphics.
Any suggestions will be appreciated, otherwise I will not be able to come here as often during the day.
Emily
No, but you can use adblock on the logo and not show it at all.
Ok everyone, it's been a long night (12+ hours) gonna hit the hay. Looking forward to seeing all of your comments when I get back in 8 hours or so.
Make sure you spend some time reading all of the wonderful content on the front page! Seriously! A big thanks to the News Staff for putting it all together!
Tell your friends, tell your enemies, tell strangers on the street to come to this site! Oh make sure you like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter!
Thanks!
Question: Many forums offer multiple "skins" to allow users to further tailor the look and feel of the site. Are there any plans to do that? Currently the new site seems to be a very fixed width and wastes almost 40% of my browser screen space as "dead space". I understand if there is no such option, but another skin that would allow people to make use of the full browser space (I have a 24 inch wide screen monitor) would be appreciated. If not, I'll manage.
Very nice redesign! Aside from the "squishiness" factor, I like it a lot!
Wow! What a makeover! Nice!!

The best thing so far? Having the full Susan's Girl at the top of the page!

Forum help, please. In a thread, I had the new posts set to open up at the top. Now the original opens at the top and the new ones are at the bottom. I've looked everywhere and am not finding how to set it where the new ones open at the top.
Help!
Chris, follow the above links as described:
Profile -> Modify profile -> Look and Layout
Then check the box that puts new posts at the top.
That should fix you right up! :)
You may have to refresh after you save those new options.
In my view there are no longer check boxes by topics. I can't do the "mark selected topics read" like I used to.
Has anyone figured out a way to turn that back on?
Suzi, go Profile/Look and layout/Quick Moderation
Very snazzy! Kudos for reals!

Oh, thank you Devlyn. That did the trick!
I love the new look. It looks a lot more modern. If I had any complaint its the width restriction. When I design sites I do my best to make sure they will work well on widescreen monitors, but since 99% of the web hates widescreen monitors, I can live with it.
Wow! Great work! The site looks fantastic!
It looks nice, but it eats a lot more resources than it used to. Makes it aggravating to quickly move around.
ahhhh pink..
but with the white of the board background and the blue headers it looks like the trans flag so fitting for the site
Wow! Looks wonderful! :)
--Jay
The width restrictions are probably hard coded in the CSS files. I've frequently fixed people's fixed width blogs by just editing the CSS and converting the values to percentages, which is an allowed alternative.
Wow, very nice update! It looks great! ^-^
Most modern sites do use more resources just from having more going on. In this case I would say its worth it. I don't notice anything slowing down on this pathetic work computer of mine. (Its really bad because of all the paranoia crap they install). Either your computer is really old or you need to update your browser. It shouldn't slow down like that unless you're using an old version of internet explorer.

Using IE 11 and my laptop is a few years old(windows 7 pro), but there is a lot to load each time I open a tab on this site. The old was fast and dropped cycle use very quickly. Just a lot to load on every single page.
IE11 isn't bad. I use it on my Yoga 2 Pro because its touch interface is better. But WaterFox (Unofficial 64 bit FireFox) runs better for sure. It might be worth checking out. Although if FireFox 37 has 64 bit like they've been claiming I may switch back.
I Liiiiiiiike It. The red highlight is cool too. Good Job!!!!!!!!!! Dani
Gold Subscriber thingy gone though? Probably just a kink, nothin like a kink here and there
Gold subscriber thing is gone because it is time to renew ;)

I removed around 30 un-needed CSS and Javascript files being called from the forum theme. They were only used on the main page of the site. I hope that helps your low end pc and mobile problems.
Thanks, Susan!
A fresh new look when I opened this forum. It does help to clear ones cache and cookies when any of the forums you subscribe to do a facelift or a change to a different service.

Hmmmm, just checked and it was the same as when I looked a couple days ago. Next recurring payment scheduled for April 18th. I never have gone in and changed anything, it says the last payment was on March 13th.
Will this mean a few "lost" days each month? It is set for instant bank transfer. Dani
It expired on the 13th is all I know.
That black bar at the top is annoying. Every single time I scroll down.
If you move your mouse quickly over it, it will not pop up. Or you can go around it.
Now working well on my IPad

Yes, it did, reduced the load on my processor quite a bit when loading and goes back to normal quickly again too. Thanks.
I'm having an easier time today, but the pages still take a while to load fully. I'm using android.
Congratulations, the site looks awesome!

Just a FYI, I tested a full width version of the site and you don't gain anything over the boxed layout. Most posts still stop at less than 50% of the page width. You have just as much "wasted space" with the full width as you do in the boxed layout, and I think the boxed layout looks better so it will be remaining on the site.
If you want something other than what I offer, you can do a modification yourself, check out Greasemonkey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greasemonkey)

Wow I only had 4 on mine. The main one, the javascript calendar plugin that I designed, and 2 IE compatibility files going back retroactively. Since I only support IE9+ now, I actually dropped the 2 IE .css files.

New greasemonkey script posted to hide the user header at the top of the forums.
Hey, the new website looks great! Had to do a double-take when it came up; whoever worked this out did a fantastic job and should be proud. Perfect time for a facelift - happy spring, everyone!
I improved the look of the tag cloud on the tag page (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php?action=tags).
BTW if people want to submit alternative logos I am always glad to look at other options. Fair warning, it will have to be very very good to make me get rid of the girl.
I don't want to sound negative or anything but is anyone else annoyed by the dark dropdown menu that keeps flapping on/off every time I scroll down a page?
I find the new site more confusing than the old. Of course, I'm a bit of a troglodyte (2) (http://zvon.org/comp/r/ref-Jargon_file.html#Terms~troglodyte), not to mention getting on in years, so maybe I'm not a typical user.
Anyway, with that disclamer:
1. Is there a site map? When I go anywhere but the forums, I feel like I'm in the middle of "a maze of twistly little passages" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colossal_Cave_Adventure#Maze_of_twisty_little_passages) I've tried tree-searching some of the stuff, but my memory isn't so good any more, so I forget where I've been.
2. Is there any way to prevent the black bar below the logo (which I've surpressed -- thanks for the AdBlock tip) from leaping out into a big menu every time my mouse gets anywhere near it? Also, sometimes if I do try to click on something on the menu, the menu goes away. I wish there were a way to have it only appear when I click on something and only go away when I click on an "X". This may not bother most people, it's just that my visual processing doesn't deal well with sudden unanticipated changes, so each pop-up and pop-down turns the image into visual salad in my brain for several seconds.
3. The "who's online" display has a number of user names in various dark colors.
(a) is there anything explaining what the colors mean?
(b) On my display at least, because the background is dark, those names are invisible (effectively black-on-black.) I can display them by telling my browser to ignore the colors specified by the page, but then other stuff becomes invisible. (And no, I can't change the contrast on my display. It has a million settings for brightness and contrast, all of which look exactly the same.)
Very nice update. I especially like the new front page. Thanks for all the work.
Louise

Yes I get a bit annoyed to by this tbh. Although I guess I'll learn to work around it.
The one thing I have noticed though is that pages load a bit slower.
Other than that it's very snazzy1

Dang, I added Greasemonkey and pasted the No Logo script into its new script box, rebooted Firefox, and the logo is still there.
You have to reload the page once it's in also click on the little arrow next to greasemonkey and make sure there is a checkbox next to it.
No Arrow or check box in the extensions listing of Greasemonkey (or any of the others), just 3 buttons: Options, Disable, and Remove. I put your script in the Greasemonkey editor and also directly loaded a copy to User Scripts.
Maybe I'm just hopeless. Still having my Chat IRC problem, too. LOL.

You should be able to just select and copy everything inside the box she has for the logo hiding, then in the toolbar area of FF next to the monkey, click the little down arrow and then new user script and click the box that will get from the clipboard, click ok and then it should work. It did on mine.

It's a little monkey icon on the toolbar. the arrow is to the right of it.
