"The death toll in the Orlando Pulse club mass shooting has risen to 50, with at least 52 injured, the city's Mayor has confirmed.
The rising number makes the atrocity the worst shooting in American history."
Absolutely awful. My heart goes out to all those affected.

This is CRAZY! I was at a packed club last night in Florida that was 40 miles away from this club. I though something was up when I didn't see police at their regular DUI hunting grounds. In-fact I could not recall seeing any police on the way home. They must have all been at the scene. I want to cry. This is not right.
These people have my love. I wish I could give them so much more.
This sort of atrocity is incredibly sad. It hurts also knowing that a lot of the reactions we're going to see in the world over the next few days are going to be very sad themselves.

On the issue of the weapon used, Obama said that this is a reminder of how easy it is for anyone, even a terrorist, in this case, to get a weapon that can be used for mass destruction.

John Mina, chief of police said that initially officers believed there were 20 dead. But now that they have been able to access the entirety of the building, they can confirm up to 50 people have been killed."

There seems to be a lot of hate in the world lately. The far right is rising up and small minded bigots are everywhere now, and they seem intent on setting the entire planet on fire.
It goes without saying this is a terrible thing to have happened, and my heart goes out to the victims and their family and their friends who have been affected by this.
This kind of horribly and mindless act of violence should be something we read about in history books and wonder why civilisations of the past were so barbaric. How is violence like this still a thing in 2016? Seriously?
The worst part is, this isn't even the first terrible thing of this nature that has happened in the past 12 months. Its like the world is slipping backwards...
What I'm trying to say is - the world is very dangerous right now (more so than usual). Love to those affected by this horendous and mindless act. Love to all of you amazing people here, and please - all of you - stay vigilant, and stay safe. <3
My condolences. I'm crying since I heard it.
This world has to change soon, because this can't continue this way. We got to stop this, we've got to come together and FIX this world.
I live 2 hrs from Orlando. Very sad. I'm pretty sure all Nightclubs around the country are now adding more security as we speak. :(
No guns, bullets or armed ideological terrorist can ever deny our love and our truth. We will continue to triumph in the courts, in our schools, in our homes and in our hearts. We will remain strong, defiant and committed to building an even stronger community and movement based on truth and love. We are unstoppable!
A single, hate deranged, person took precious lives and maimed may others. This was an LGBTQ massacre!!!!
While our hearts go out to the families and friends of our fallen sisters and brothers know this:
LOVE MAKES A FAMILY AND LOVE ALWAYS WINS
There is going be a strong reaction calling for even greater division between us, but that is exactly what the extremists are trying to accomplish, in order to legitimize their aspirations. This is a clash of ideologies, so if we are to prevail, as we fight these threats to liberalism, we must never relinquish our embrace of diversity.
However you slice it, religious bigotry is horrific by a Muslim or a Christian. We know this guy was not just targeting American citizens. He went with a purpose to kill gays because he saw a couple kissing in public. Keep religion to yourselves like they used to until the charlatans took over and made God a money maker.
ISIS claims responsibility for Orlando gay club mass shooting which killed 50

"ISIS has claimed responsibility for a mass shooting in Orlando which left 50 dead and at least 52 injured, the city's Mayor has confirmed.
ISIS (Islamic State) claimed responsibility for the attack which has killed at least 50, on the Amaq news agency following reports that the shooter called police to swear allegiance to the extremist organisation.
The rising number makes the atrocity the worst shooting in American history.
Orlando's mayor, Buddy Dyer, confirmed the number just before 10:30 local time on Sundy"
More to come. ISIS/IS/ISIL have been chanting about death to anyone that does not adhere to their brand of Islam. The LGBT community is one of those they are targeting. Those professed Christians spouting out how this is a "Reap what you sow" moment are missing the point here. They are designated targets as well. This is not punishment for transgressions from God, but transgressions against a certain belief system. God does not send earthly surrogates to mete out revenge against transgressions against Him. There has been a lot of wake-up moments in the past year alone with the various hate groups and individuals acting out. Not much done except rhetoric as this is an election year. Parties blaming each other instead of real action.
Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak for me. Pastor Martin Niemöller

Sorry to tell ya but the world is only getting worse and it will never get better because we are in the last days but I agree it's sad, you should never murder anyone but as I was taught and what it says in the Bible, "The love of man shall wax cold" and that's in the book of revelation. There is no love in this world anymore. I feel sorry for the generation after me.

Sadly, these kinds of mass shootings will likely continue. If anything should have effected change, it should have been the Sandy Hook shooting. TWENTY first-grade children were massacred in that shooting, and it still wasn't enough to change anything.
And no, defeating ISIS isn't going to stop these mass murders, because Sandy Hook wasn't about ISIS. In fact, of the 10 most deadly mass shootings in US history, only 3 of them were related to outside terrorist groups. The other massacres were carried out by angry, disgruntled, and/or mentally ill people. Guess what? Other developed countries around the world have angry and mentally ill people too, but they don't have nearly as many mass shootings per capita as the US does.
It really comes down to more gun control. It's the only solution. But I'm a realist, and I know that won't happen. Not just because of partisan bickering, but more so because gun ownership is etched into the American psyche and American culture, much like car ownership. Guns are an integral part of American culture and family, and the way some fathers spend time with their kids (teaching them how to shoot a gun or go hunting with a gun, for example). Any attempts to restrict that, even just a little, is often perceived as a threat to American culture.
So, I'm resigned with the seemingly inevitable conclusion that mass shootings will continue. There is no reason to believe otherwise.

I agree. I briefly talked with a friend visiting here from the U.S. The conclusion was that it will not be changed, and will be continued, even with more shocking ways.
Some extreme religions have continued to instigate hatred among people, and this also will be continued.

That's the price of living in a free society. Besides the cops were outside for 3 hours. In that time, this guy could have had an 18th century musket and killed 50 people. Get licensed, learn to be responsible, carry and be safe. Join a pink pistols chapter and learn sometimes for free.

"The Eiffel Tower is among the landmarks to have lit up in colours of the rainbow flag, in solidarity with the LGBT community after the Orlando terror attacks.
50 people were killed and 53 injured yesterday in the shocking terrorist hate crime attack, which saw a gunman open fire inside The Pulse gay bar in Orlando, Florida.
ISIS has since claimed responsibility for the attack, which was perpetrated by US citizen Omar Mateen. The majority of the victims were Latino.
Paris, which saw its own horrific terror attacks in November when gunmen killed 130 people in a string of incidents, paid a poignant tribute in solidarity."
Sucks I wasn't one of the victims
No one noticed these types of murders happen in gun free zones? I have for no gunman or woman wants to attempt this is cw or open carry zones for that's dangerous,so they go to where people are unarmed for it's safer to kill people. I'm sorry this happened but if someone was armed it wouldn't have been as bad as it was.

Indeed. the topic of Gun Control in America is a dead horse discussion. Smart locks and stricter\lengthy background checks on ordinance that isn't purely self-defensive or for hunting have been proposed so many times and then "Shot down" by the NRA (pun fully intended) it is absolutely pathetic. BUT this is not the Forum for that movement.
Sad time indeed. Weekly shootings in this country. Empathy, Prayers and thoughts are fine but don't seem to do a lot to curb gun violence sadly.
This is another reminder that if you think someone is capable of doing evil, it is your obligation as a member to try and get some help to that person or bring the authorities attention to the person.
the problem is that unless someone verbally expresses it , saying they are going to slaughter people, which none of these idiots do unless they want to be stopped, no one can possibly do anything to stop them. The 911 terrorists sat in a bar getting drunk laughing , but made no coherent commit about pioliting planes into the towers.
So true Stephanie - you're not going to stop everyone but i am betting with more awareness of mental health and more work on everyone's part to help one another, more people can be stopped. I'm an optimist for sure. This person probably should have been in jail or at least on parole for abusing his wife of less than 2 yrs.
There are many potential political solutions as well, but as someone said this is not the forum for those.
I'm all for a whole lot more health care and for humans just to really be what the human race has the potential to become. The health care system saved my life a number of times when I was a young drug addict when I was an older prostitute and when I was much older person who lost everything. I'm still alive and thriving because of some very caring health professionals and teachers and I can never say enough about them , I love them all.
Another development. The shooter was opting between the Pulse nightclub or Downtown Disney at the Disney World park. Both doesn't need security checks as the main gate at Disney World does. He was looking for the softest target. Disney is also known to be LGBT friendly, one of the first large corporations to be so.

The other incredibly sad thing is that I live across the street from a Big 10 University and the fear is constant that one of these wackos will walk into the student lounge or cafeteria

"Thousands of people have lined the streets of London's Soho in solidarity with the community and Orlando, and in memory of those lost in a mass shooting which killed 50 in a gay club on Sunday morning.
Thousands gathered at the vigil to join hands and hold moments of silence in solidarity with the community in Orlando, and all of the victims of the shooting which took place at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando.
Shortly after 19:00 GMT, business owners stopped serving drinks, turned off their music and encouraged punters outside to pay tribute to Orlando with moments of silence."
The most saddest thing for me is to see that politicians use this for pushing their own agenda's. That's all I'm saying about politics today, as it makes me crazy.
The perpetrator had bipolar disorder and a personality disorder, and obviously some anger issues. Sprinkle a little religion in the mix and it becomes caustic. Now, there are people like him all over the world. 1% of any population suffers from psychopathy. The key difference here is: why is anyone allowed to obtain an assault rifle when they have a history of mental issues and have been questioned by the feds, twice? Guns are fine, although I do not own one, I do like them. But letting a nutcase being able to buy an assault rifle when they have mental issues, is probably a very bad idea imho.

Oh it's only a matter of when before something happens there, as even at the main gate of magic kingdom, the security that guests go through is mostly just a ruse. There aren't even metal detectors at Animal Kingdom! Employees just show their blue or green IDs and walk right through the checkpoints without ever being checked. It may be all smiles on the guest side, but there's some pretty crabby people in the back too. Even with guests being checked outside, I've had to call security several times on guests that had knives longer than 3" on them. They seem more worried about press drones taking pictures of the construction areas or people stealing $4.50 20oz Cokes than actually being like airport security. Good thing that I got the Hell out of there when I did.
It's futile to speculate about hate and insanity.
The statement of "he shouldn't have had access to such weapons" is moot.
The murderer was a "security specialist" with several weapons licenses. He used his father's activism and religion as an excuse/foundation for his attitudes. He was a bigot and domestic abuser. If he didn't have support from the teachings of his faith and almost universal dislike of LGBT people. Worse yet, he was born and raised in the US. It may be time to denounce all fundamentalist religion and activist politics by people that do not subscribe to the principles of the US constitution.
Outlawing drugs has not prevented the epidemic of heroin overdose or the rise of marijuana as a low-risk intoxicant.
Gun control does not do away with the technology and know-how to produce weapons of destruction.
The deep seeded division of humans by what they have in their pants and how they use it is the root of the greatest hate and violence.
I'm bloody tired of the categorization of humans by a single chromosome pairing and configuration of genitalia.

In Texas, we're not allowed to carry in a bar unless they've changed the rules while this non-drinker wasn't looking.
I carry quite regularly, but the argument against guns in bars is not exactly the most farfetched.
It should also be of note that this was Latin Night, and involved several trans people being there earlier that night including drag performers.
AND it was NOT the deadliest mass shooting ever in the US- several events throughout the black/civil rights movement had higher unarmed body counts, but multiple shooters. This is the worst *Single-Shooter* massacre in recent U.S. history.
BTW, the shooter's current wife may be indicted as an accomplice, having known and helped in the reconnaissance leading up to this incident, but is trying to talk her way out of it.

I feel very bad for this person. He too is a victim of this or his intolerant ideology, by abusing faith and turning it into an excuse to get rid of himself and taking other with him out of jealousy. From the article:
"The shooter's father, Seddique Mateen, made his beliefs on gay people very clear in a video he posted to Facebook on Monday saying 'homosexuals will be punished by God.'"
Sounds like the father was a real piece of work. I was a little surprised how fast his two men kissing story hit the press. Now we can probably guess why. The father was probably very abusive to his son because he was gay. He probably was trying to deflect his partial responsibility in this tragedy.

if anything, and this is VERY preliminary, I would not be surprised if he is investigated heavily if not indicted too as an accomplice for the negative re enforcement likely given out about his son's questioning status that could have been a contributing factor to the shooter snapping. he said that his son got very upset over seeing two men kissing in Miami several months ago... perhaps the rest of the truth behind that statement is that he was upset not because of the observation, but at his father for not being any bit tolerant about it.
We can discern a growing amount of misery just at looking at the public photos in chronological format. the selfie pic with the beanie cap is actually pretty old. the newer pics show a much more miserable mood, which is exactly how the radical extremists take hold of so many people that are lost. the multiple calls to 911 are very abnormal behavior for any pure intent to massacre people. Perhaps it wasn't so much a pledge of allegiance to the is as much as it was a final plea for help from his subconscious to stop him before it was too late... ya know, that final scream while going over the edge of the cliff cause you know you're going to die.
This is a very, VERY complicated case and it's way too soon to jump to any firm conclusions.

So far, it seems to me that the perpetrator is a victim himself. He seems to have become a real monster that has been created by religious extremism, bigots, conservatives, dogmatists and all other hatred that is so common against LGBT's. They say that thoughts become reality, I think that is true. All the hate in the world has to go somewhere, it needs an outlet, like a lightning bolt that releases it's charge. Maybe this is the end-result of all that hate and prejudice against LGBT's. Like the butterfly who flaps it's wings and thereby sets of a hurricane at the other end of the world.
We create our own reality through our thoughts, because eventually we act upon our thoughts, or thoughts by others that became actions.
Look what this world has become, a world where we have to discuss at length who uses what toilet. Wasting so much energy, time and potential at pointless discussions that could be used to make life better for all of us. I think we're coming to some decisive moments in time. Because this cannot go on like it is.

Well false flag just simply means that there are more people involved than what the media is telling us and it also means that this was a setup, now a lot of people will call me a conspiracy theroist but I just consider myself as one of those people who puts pieces together and this case there are alot of inconsistencies. The government is behind it or the higher up people ig you could say.
