Title: How do yu grow out your hair long with out it looking messy ?
Post by: Lexi Nexi on December 18, 2017, 04:27:59 PM
I have really short hair but I want to grow it out to at least shoulder length. Do you get hair cuts  while its growing long? Or does this just make it take longer? I really hate messy hair cuts and don't want to look unkept while its growing.

You don't.   It has to go through the awkward stage before it gets long.  It takes a while too if you're really short right now, upwards of 18 months.

Growing my hair out from a buzzcut at the start of my transition I don't let anyone near my head with scissors. I guarantee you if you ask for even the smallest trim you're sending yourself back months depending on how slow or fast your hair grows.

I just styled it with hair mouse and hairspray until it was long enough to tie up. Even in a half up/half down which is what I mostly do. I find this keeps it manageble and cute.

It's never easy. You will have a week of it sitting right and looking amazing and then a week of it looking like a wig/mop. :P

I would also see how soon you could buy some clip in extensions if you want longer hair. With hairspray you can lay extensions even under pixie cut hair which is what I did. :)

Much love. <3

Depending on the final style you are targeting, you might consider a clean up cut at about 4-6 months. Hair doesn't grow at the same rate and you might need to shorten some of the longer hair. In addition, if you have split ends, they should be cleaned up before they get worst. One of the tricks is to figure out how to comb it so it doesn't look so bad and do it every day. The bed head look is not permitted. Start looking for a good stylist now and they will let you know when you need to do something with your hair.

That's what I was going to say word for word. If you do find a way around the awkward stage, be sure to let everyone know!

My coping strategy  was thus:

Random person: "Mike, what's with the hair?"

Me: "It turns out that I'm a crossdresser, and I figured my own hair is better than wigs."

I shake my head back and forth, ask my wife how it looks and she say: "Perfect, like always"
She gets a bit envious that my hair, for the most part, behaves itself. It is a little more now, thicker than I'm used to. I usually get it thinned out and I'd cut my own bangs off above my eyes. Now I'm trying to get my bangs to catch up while I decide what I'll end up with. You just can't cut it longer no matter how hard you try.

I promise, My profile picture will soon be a current picture of me.

Brush your hair every day. Make sure it's well hydrated, and do not put products with harmful chemicals in your hair! Use cold water instead of hot water in the shower. Do NOT use heat to style your hair! If you can, use a shower filter to remove chlorine from the water. Chlorine is very harmful to your hair!

I am only out to a two people at work. I was in the military and never had hair longer than an inch or so until this year. I have not had a haircut since Dec 2016. Once it started getting unruly I began using mousse, lots and lots of mousse, to slick it down. Once the mousse dries nothing short of a F5 tornado will move it.  My hair actually makes a crunching noise if I try to pat it down with my fingers once the plaster, I mean mousse, dries.

Only one or two people have made any comments. I usually say something like 'I am trying to make up for all the bald guys around here'. People I see on a daily basis have not said a word about it.

I plan to get it trimmed a bit just before I come out a work, which I am currently planning to do late March of this year.

I've been kicking myself in the butt since accepting who I am.  I had long beautiful hair for 25 years, it was getting kinda long, said it was getting in my way. I cut it and I wonder why, can't let my freak flag fly.  And I feel that I owed it to someone.  Reflecting on that, I started growing it (I thought because of the 60's) but it is at the same time stirrings of who I was came to light.  That may have been the true impetus.
The awkward stage is inevitable if you want it long.  I am at the beginning all over again.
Smiles, Jessica

I haven't had a haircut since July of 2015. it took about 10 months before it was first ponytailable. I did have a problem for several months with little "boar-tusks" sticking out from under my ears. I just pinned them back, if anyone noticed they didn't say. Honestly the worst part was when it wasn't long enough to tie back, but would constantly get in my face, I fixed it by not shampooing as often, letting the greasyness hold it together. Thankfully, that stage didn't last long.

Happy growing.

I don't know if I'm in the awkward stage or right before it. It's been about 5 months since my last real hair cut though 3 months ago I had the back of my head and right side "trimmed" before I decided they were (yes 2 ppl) cutting off too much and I left. I was a bit of a diva about it but that's okay since then I've taken growing my hair out more seriously!

I'm thinking the next 6 months to a year will be awkward if not even longer.

I haven't cut my hair since May and it can get messy especially when humid (whether it is because of rain or sweat) so what I do is I put a hair massage cream in that can be left there and I comb it from the left side. When it dries it looks like I put gel and it's super hard, so I run my hand through it to remove some of the hardness and it completely works. Hair looks normal and pretty. I'm not cutting it anytime soon.

I used a bandanna tied into a headband to keep it out of my eyes until it could be tied back. I take pretty religiously good care if it for the last two years, always use conditioner and only shampoo every 2-3 days. As a result, even though I haven't had a cut / trim in 18 months, the ends are in pretty good shape. I'll be getting a styling done in January.

Although it's more trouble than I'd anticipated, I absolutely love having shoulder length hair and now it's just a question of how far out will I grow it, mid back or longer?

I have had to grow my hair 3 times, 3 times, god I hate my dad. The first time I went to the gay part of town found the most fabulous hair dresser I could in an hr and just asked him to keep my hair long and make me pretty.  All the girls in school where jealous of my hair. XD
the second time I got really depressed and didn't care about anything for 2 years.
This time I live in the mountains so it is cold I wear a beanie basically 24/7. Can't wait till spring when I can do my hair.

My hair has been growing nicely since last December when I quit trimming it myself. It is almost down to my shoulders. I like the look and feel of my very fine almost white hair. Unfortunately it is all for naught due to my extensive MPB which most likely rules out even implants. I'm afraid it's wigs for me. I suppose I could pull some through the wig and call them fashion streaks.

I use lots of mega-hold hair gel and brush it straight back. It stays flat and hides how long it looks from the front for the most part. I work a very public job and tons of people ask me "if I'm growing my hair out". I tell them having a pony tail has been on my bucket list a long time and that's what I'm doing.
The in-between period when it's not long enough to pin makes me nuts. It's really hard to get it all under a wig cap and stay there. It was so much easier when I shaved my head.

Don't wash it every day is the best tip I was given...wash and condition your hair every 4-5 days min if you can. The no chemicals thing is a another good one as well...try not to blow dry your hair too much There are supplements you can get from health food shops and they help a little. I have mine trimmed about every 12 weeks to keep it under control otherwise it's frizz city!!

When i was a teen. i use to let my hair grow for 6 months or sometimes more, i still didnt quite achieve a more feminine look atleast not that i wanted anyway but it use to make me feel more feminine which i liked, until people started to notice how long it was thats when i got it cut....

I grew to down to just touching my shoulders a couple of times, however mostly it just looked more like afro hair which i didnt like, cus it took away that feminine feeling

Lately Ive been thinking about, growing my hair out again but this time encourage that feminine look (ie brushing it properly etc) so ive been curious as well

I think it depends, someone grows hair faster, someone slowing, There are girls with short hair, half-long hair and long hair. Just choose the hairstyle you prefer personally!

Good to know! I'm a brunette and have thought about going blonde once it's long enough and I'm full time (to softer my features) but I really don't want to damage my hair.

Ok let me explain I would wait till it is at the length that you want it than go to a hair dresser and get it done and going platinum blonde  will make your hair all died and frizzy I learned that. I would start with high lights if you want to go lighter and you can add some every time you get your hair done than you are not just one big frizz ball This is what i mean as male I would get my hair bleached all the time and had to keep it short as the hairs would break off so I had some really sort hair this is a pic of what not to do as in colour

My last hair cut was just over 2 years ago.  I shampoo and conditioner twice a week. I let my hair air dry. I comb my hair as needed and usually use a hair band to keep it tied up in back, out of my face. It works for me.

I've growing mine over a year and it is now shoulder length. Unfortunately I cut some from the front and it hasn't grown back yet. I have learned that Natural Henna - Non colored will make your hair, soft and shiny without chemicals as it is all herbal. If you want to go all black or brown, you can do that with henna too. And then there are the beautiful reds.  A dash of Argan oil helps control frizz and shine the hair. It's suggested you take and trim the ends every three months or so to keep them from fraying. I have also read that rubbing castor oil in the bald spots will make hair grow. Using a shampoo without sulfates will allow you to wash more frequently without fading. And don't forget to use castor oil on your eyelashes to help them grow. Just use an old mascara spoolie and wash it out. Dip and apply to lashes.

As an aspiring chemist and someone who studied pharmacology/genetics and bio chemistry/organic chemistry in college I'm of the opinion that 90% of the things they sell at vitamin shoppe gnc etc are just pills that do nothing but waste money and might give you a placebo effect. The rest are dangerous. One real supplement they sell actually works is kavakava. It has a chemical in it that works on the same part of the brain that valium works on. Problem is it gives you liver damage and I almost died from taking it.

Certified 100% kavakava concentrated extract! OK so water or oil based? From the roots leaves bark wood? what else comes with the extract? How do you make sure that you don't provide a lethal dose as one plant may have alot more then the another plant.

The supplements do have effects, it's just they come with risks like most isolated compounds do. Many times, they're double edged swords; whereas, a little bit may be helpful, but too much of it can do serious damage. It seems that fat soluble compounds are the ones that are more likely to pose significant risk. These chemicals can build up to very toxic levels in the body if taken in excess, and can put a lot of stress on the liver to be processed. Anything that is lipid soluble should be especially respected, and taken from a stance of well versed education regarding the pros/cons, and from a place where it's actually beneficial to consume. Water soluble compounds can tax the kidneys if taken in excess, so even tread with caution there as well. Healthy kidneys can filter them pretty efficiently however.

I'm at around a year I think. When straightened it touches my shoulders in parts. You just have to let it grow and Wear it to in a ponytail a lot.

The six month stages was the worst. Too short to tie up but too long to do anything but gel down. Haha looked awful for me.

But in the long run its worth it to have long hair :)

At 7 months of growing it, it's just now finally reaching a point where I'm happier with it, and it occasionally does what I want it too (then I step outside and high winds completely ruin it....). Unfortunately, it's still at that in-between length where there's not a whole lot that can be done with it as far as styling goes.

Ya that's kinda what I did over the weekend. Minus the braids. Small pony tail and some blue eyeliner to match my shirt and instantly feel good about yourself.

To the op, I'm in the awkward hair length stage as well... not out at work, ears pierced and hair about chin length to shoulder length in back. It's awkward and I get really self conscious about it but made myself a promise a few weeks ago to just own it when I got my ears pierced. And that resolution has helped me tremendously.

Oh and try some product out if you really need to keep it under control. Some days I blow it out with some mousse or gel and then get comments about looking like a pretty John wick. Lol.

Is there any proof caster oil makes hair grow? I feel if that was true tons of companies even legit ones would be selling it. From a biochem angle the caster oil is too think to pass through the phospholipid bilayer to get down to the living areas of the skin where if it could do something it would. Also caster oil has no evidence showing that it has the correct hormones in (or any hormones focal stimulating hormones/ its just a simple hydrocarbon chain like any other oil and those are not the correct/sophisticated hormones to get hair to start it getting hair growing even if it did get down into the living skin/follicles. Probably a market to sell it in a fancy bottle as magic hair regrowth treatment.

Update since my last post. It's cute curls now and honestly taking sugar bear hair vitamins for about 4-5 months and hair, skin and nails for 2 months before that I don't really think there's a difference... I'm gonna take my vitamins until I finish them but I don't think I'll be ordering anymore.

7 months and I'm learning patience. I'm still in the awkward phase but I try to own it. It's tough and I've added progesterone since. My mind is telling me that I'm not feminizing and reverting back [emoji17] I keep thinking I should just cut it but I know I'll regret doing that

It's ok to get a trim during the early stages of growth, just let your stylist know you are growing it out, and that you would just like to have the ends trimmed, that way it won't get that scraggly look.  And it should be ok to use a flat iron, just choose a safe heat setting for your hair texture, and use a good heat protection product.

I have really short hair but I want to grow it out to at least shoulder length. Do you get hair cuts  while its growing long? Or does this just make it take longer? I really hate messy hair cuts and don't want to look unkept while its growing.

Maintaining long hair is not an easy job. It takes more time and effort. For example, it used to take more than 1 hour to dry out my hair when I had shoulder-length hair. Now I have relatively short hair and I just blow my hair with the hair dryer for about 3-5 min, then letting hair dried with natural air.

But it will be a pleasure to keep long hair until you are tired of it.

Many styles are available for short or awkward-stage hair. For example, the following style is popular here and my little daughter has the same style:

I am also targeting that kind of hair style, which is easy to maintain.

To avoid messy hair, avoid chemicals and treatments as much as possible. In my case, I apply the following simple product just before drying my hair after shampooing.

https://www.amazon.com/Biosilk-Therapy-Serum-Packaging-Ounces/dp/B0007CXX82?th=1

This product is not so much expensive, and does not require 10 or 15 min treatment time. Some hair dressers used to recommend me far more expensive products, which typically require a 15 min treatment time. I can not afford to do that every 3 days.

And finally, in my case, money does good for my hair. I used to straighten my hair at hair salon, which costed about US$ 300 per session every 6 months. Yes. At that time, my hair looked really great. But just one visit to a cheap hair salon spoiled all of my hair, urging me to have my current short hair. It costed just about US$ 40. I will never spare money at hair salon.

From everything I can find biotin is the best supplement to take. I take the bear gummies too. 😊

Avoid damage and stimulate the scalp for growth.

Leave in conditioner for frizz, that or anti frizz oil.

Everywhere I read about hair growth says biotin. Any prenatal vitamins should give you that.

When I went to my stylist I went in with the expectation of getting fusion hair extensions. for those of you that don't know these type of extensions are bound to the hairs in very small strands and when installed properly you can pull your hair back and such. they typically cost 1k-2k USD for an install and last ~4-6 months.

When she did the consultation she said that my hair (which was down to my shoulders at least the parts lower in my scalp) she said my hair was too short to make the hair extensions look right.  She then went on and explained that my hair needs to be down to my shoulders from the top of my head, not the bottom or your hair comes out looking like a mullet. This was an aveda spa and salon, which is one of the best places to get you hair cut in my area and it has great reviews

So I asked her what I could do to my hair to make it look decent now without increasing the time until I could have the extensions installed. she said she could trim the bottom parts of my hair so that the top strands were around the same length. I had that done and I was very pleased with it, all of a sudden my hair went from a mess to easy to manage with just a brush and straightener. She didn't touch the hair that was limiting me its actually down to the middle of my neck right now.

I think its really worth getting something done with it in the middle, it makes everything so much more bearable and when your hair does finally grow out, it'll look cute(hopefully :) ).

She honestly won me over when she told me that she couldn't do hair extensions as she was delaying/denying a big sale. to me it shows that she cares about her work and my hair, and that's invaluable to me as just prior to this I had a very bad experience with another salon and actually walked out. The last thing I want is someone messing with my hair that doesn't care.

Sheesh, I completely missed the first page so I didn't read the first post.
Every girl I know hates the weird phase when growing their hair out. Many will never even bother growing their hair out again after they cut it short. I believe, if you look around, you will see that as we get older fewer women have long hair. I know that none of my friends have hair as long as mine and I am not even 50 yet.

I just had my hair cut 2 weeks ago, the day before I took my current avatar picture, then before that it was one year ago. Those were the only two haircuts I have had since it was buzzed a little over 4 years ago. You can have it maintained regularly or you can wait it out. Hair grows 6 inches a year on average, so in three years when passing typically sets in for good your hair will be 18 inches. That's a good length to start your new life with.

Patience, it won't last forever.

Mine is growing through stages. From a grade 4 about 16 months ago to just touching my shoulders if straightened.

In between you get the short styles,  the short but manageable style, the long short which is okay, then before it starts to drop because if thwe weight, there's this wonderful stage when you cannot do a thing with it.
Even at my length, with a middle/side part the long front strand won't stay behind my ear when pushed back.

Keep going, it's so worth it!

I think it's been longer for me between haircuts than anyone on here. I last had a haircut in 2004 or 2005. I Used to be able to grow shoulder length hair in a couple months but for some strange reason my hair growth slowed down to a snail's pace after my last haircut. Being native american I cut it as a sign of grieving when a dear friend passed away.
I guess I'm lucky that for my age I don't have very much grey in it lol. I have noticed that since starting HRT my hair has started growing again and now it comes to below my shoulders. When I first moved to Tennessee my hair was ankle length black with a dyed white stripe on both sides. I moved here from Navajo Arizona where I went to school on the Navajo Reservation.  I was 18yrs old then lmao

If it's quackery, there sure is a lot of reference to it's use and all it takes is a Google search. https://www.google.com/search?q=castor+oil+for+hair+regrowth&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS718US718&oq=ca&aqs=chrome.0.69i59j69i57j69i61l2j69i60.2474j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

You are right that Castor oil is thick and that is why most recipes call for it to be thinned with another oil like coconut or argan. Also using a rinse of apple cider vinegar beforehand gets existing oil out of your hair for better results. It also requires heating and capping to help the oil absorb. Castor oil on its own has many vitamins and minerals. t's antibacterial and anti fungal properties make it beneficial against follliculitus, dandruff and scalp infections and its ricinoleic acid content helps increase circulation to the scalp and improve hair growth.

Ricinoleic acid is also said to help balance scalp pH which can also help replenish the scalp's natural oils and undo some of the damage of harsh chemical hair products (and even damage from no-poo, due to over alkalinity). The antioxidants in castor oil also support the keratin in hair and help make hair stronger, smoother and less frizzy.

There is a word of warning if your going to give your hair an oil treatment. If you are going to have a perm or color job, warn the person treating you hair what you are doing. The oil will keep the treatment from penetrating your hair and it will be a waste of money. If you are using a well trained professional, they will know how to clean your hair so the treatment will take properly but they have to be warned of the the problem in advance. This applies to caster oil, olive oil or any other home treatment you might come up with.

My fear as well, I have been using wigs for years due to the Army, I am about to retire, and I want so badly to grow my hair out, but I am so afraid it will not be like I hope. It keeps me up at night wondering how it will look. I love my wigs, and I love how they look. I am so afraid my natural hair will not compare!! UGHHHHH Anxiety...

There are lots and lots of hair styles for all hair lengths....  as it grows longer and longer the variety of things and styles you can fix your hair in multiply significantly... but unlike my pre-transition days I just can't wake up, run water over my head and towel it off and then go out the door.  Definitely more time is spent with the hair as a female than as a male...  the price of beauty!!!.

I've had great success keeping my hair in place with hair gel. I wet my hair, put some on, then I hold my cowlicks down with my hand until the gel dries some. It keeps them under control In Dec. '17, I was getting a six on top and three on the sides crewcut. Now it is comb-able in a male fashion. I'd say the hair on top is about 2 1/2-3".

Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk

DON'T CUT IT!!! I almost did that because I want really long or really short hair. Then I thought I could just get it evened out. No that will set you back months. I started measuring mine since I got it cut to 1" log in november. It seems like it slows down but thats just because the change is so noticeable at first. When I want to cut my hair I think about making love to a guy and having my long blonde hair tickle his chest as I gaze down through it. Also you can cover up that horse shoe shape at the top once its a few inches long. I was thinking about wearing pink bandanas like some jewish girls do and letting the front hair hang out and getting it dyed blonde with bright pink streaks. Then it just looks like you have bangs and long hair is covered up. Sure if you look close you can see it's short but from a short distance/quick glance you will look 100% female. I can't wait for summer: short white shorts, pink tank top, pink nails, and white flip flops with thick bottoms to show off my legs and feet. Add the pink bandana and you have someone who was afraid to wear their favorite color during their childhood. Add glittery lip gloss and sparkles on your cheeks. Hard to pull off if you are older but you could tone it down. I used to dress like that last summer and would not be passable but people would think I was really gay. Was strange how people treated me so much differently then the day before just dressed as a guy. some guys wouldn't talk to me as much, most girls were alot more talkative asking me personal questions, and would make assumption like having a boyfriend, and assuming I didn't like male things like star wars. I forget what I was in but the only ones left had football teams and starwars logo's and the girl said "We only have football and starwars ones left so I'm afraid we don't have anymore" I think they were calendars or something. She was right though I didn't buy.

Yes, for sure, a pony tale is fast and easy and can look quite nice.
I have worked so hard and long for length that I usually like to wear my hair down.
I have a female acquaintance that is helping me do my hair in "up" styles..and some fancy braiding, she did a French Braid on my hair last week.....  some of those styles look quite formal for special occasions!

Oh that was someone else's comment I saw lol my hair is still short, I always get he/him and sir/man. It's not affecting me as much the further I'm on hrt though. I realize why I'm transitioning. It's for myself. Not for men or women to perceive me a certain way. Everyone's perception is going to be skewed in some way, I know mine is.

I've consulted several hairstylists and the advice I was given is you cut the back and sides until your top catches up to the back and sides. Then you grow the top and sides and back together. Back is the last thing you stop cutting or you'll look like you're growing a mullet.

my fear and maybe it was because I let it get cut before I could see otherwise but when my hair grows out it gets afro-y I was given some advice to let it grow and just straighten it but yeah Im starting from a basic crew cut (1 all around) myself but Im actually happy that my hair is growing out finally. I guess im just ranting I have all intentions of letting my hair grow and but I do have an issue of my hair thinning a bit but stress and whatnot does cause that lol

Definitely can tell it is thick, with you age and hair, bum length should be possible. Wish that I could join you but with my age and curls it is probably only a dream now. Not complaining  :D My hair is very long, I just want it to keep going. It does get exponentially harder to deal with though. Not fun to have hair stick in your armpits and get pulled or under your boob when you are in a hurry and having to pull at least one two foot hair out of your underwear every day. How do they get there!? You have to pull it in front of you if you want to sit with your back against anything and riding with the windows down becomes a memory. Oh, and eating becomes a search for the hair that is in your mouth, where is it coming from? Lol, it's all worth it to me but it was unexpected, thousands of little appendages that have to be accounted for at all times.

And terribly sorry, from your photo you are girly and your hair is just along for the ride. Enjoy being a girl, your guy days are over.

Honestly, most peoples hair looks messy when growing it out, the key is to not get upset till it is longer than you want for a style, then get it cut to that shape

I wish I had this problem again...

when I grew my hair out from shaved in my teens... back in the 80s when you could get away with this method... I started with a mullet, then as I grew the sides out, I would gel them back into the mullet until they were long enough to then style my hair properly.

The other method that someone else I knew did and probably the best method... is to grow your hair into a bob and then grow it long.

Sadly, I've lost quite a bit of hair on top and it looks like I am in for a lifetime of wigs. So my question is...

Is it best to still grow out your hair (I've still got quite a bit at the back and sides), or is it best to keep it shaven when forced to use wigs?

Hi, Hair grows about 0.5 inches a month. I use hydrolyzed collagen 20 grams a day in warm water and drink it down. I make bone broth and drink a cup or so each day in the evening. My hair, skin and nails are in great shape and grow faster than 0.5 inches a month. Also my hair after I started this routine is much nicer. The before hair is not as nice.

I rinse my hair in the shower with PH 4 to 5 water. I fill a gallon jug of water and use PH down. I used PH strips to get the amount of chemical correct. I do this with my hair and it also cover my body too. Skin and hair is meant to have a lower PH.

As stated before. I went to a gay barber in the gayborhood and expressed I just want the ends trimmed off about 1/8 of an inch ( just because someone is in the gayborhood does not mean they are a good). He cut 3 inches off my hair and I cried. I go to a friend that works in a studio and he colors and evens my hair out a tad(very small amount) here and there and it helps. My hair is shoulder length and very curly. Point being if you get to a point you need evening out and just the very ends cut to even your hair out make sure you find someone you can trust (very important). I have just evened out my hair and not had it cut since 2013.

I have curly Hair so best to rock curly hair than live straightening your hair, my opinion. My avatar pic is about a year old.

I think for a lot of people our hair can get to be not the best looking at stages of its growing out.
I do trim it because although I doubt that trimming makes the hair grow any faster than about a half an inch a month, if you do take care of the split ends and frizzies, your hair may appear healthier and longer.

What one person might call "messy" for her though might also be fabulous looking on others.

Ponytails and buns as soon as you are able. Until then clips help in that middle stage as do hair products like gel and spray.

Yup :D I'm metalhead so it was nice cover for growing it (though I can use that excuse any longer because it already waist-length and that's out of regular already lol)
And it actually messy at the moment, it's a little wet in some places so I let it dry completely before touching it hairbrush.

But yeah I prefer them curly. Once I went to barbershop and they made it strait and accurate and it looked so unnatural that I wished it be messy >_<

I do most of my sweating on the back of my head.  I know, a pretty stupid location, but my body has a lot of stupid ideas.  This is the reason why I keep my hair very short (I live in SW Florida).  Do you ladies have this problem? I mean I can have a fountain running with the sweat coming from there.  How would it be, if my hair would be long?  would I always look as if I was in a rain storm?
Anyway, the hair is very short currently, and I might have to wait 200 years to have it long enough to be of any problem.

Just as a side remark, my coworkers from our skin health lab told me that one should not wash ones hair with any soap more often than once a week!

Alice,

I have to say that you do have beautiful hair. OMG waist length to boot. I don't think that i could ever go longer than say the middle of my back. Mostly I just want it to get down to about my shoulder blades. Your hair is also a lovely color as well. I am definitely jeli. You go girl! Love and faith.

@Dietlind I had such problem and even ponytail didn't give me much help. But I was told that I will be shooted by bow and arrows if I cut it again haha, and at some point it became long enough to make a braid. I took some time, and you will feel yourself like in scarf in warm weather (though I actually used it as scarf in winter lol), so you nees some patience.

Mostly I just want it to get down to about my shoulder blades. Your hair is also a lovely color as well. I am definitely jeli. You go girl! Love and faith.
Thanks you @Gabrielle66 , you've made me blush and you definitely scratched my ego :D
As I told previously in this post, it's matter of patience and motivation (or demotivation in my case haha). And, probably, genetics. I think it tooks 4 or 5 years to grow it under mid and to waist, but I didn't count it. You know, it's my 4th long hair, so I knew it'll grow eventually and didn't worried too much.

The thing about keeping hair trimmed while growing it out isn't that it makes it grow faster...  Trimming split ends prevents them from splitting up the hair further and then breaking the hair shorter.  I had mine at about half way down my back in college and at the time wasn't bothered to keep it trimmed or healthy.  To me it seemed it stopped growing at that point because for every .5 in. of growth I would lose as much to breakage.

Good rule of thumb is it will grow on average .5 in. / month.  So let it grow for three and then have .5 trimmed.  Total growth would be roughly 4 in. / year and it will keep growing till you feel like Ripette Van Winkel!  :)

The other thing is you really don't need to worry about trimming at all until it gets to top of your shoulders.

I haven't had mine cut for 1 year now this month still remember I decided to transition about 2 days after and wished I hadn't cut it and had a few inches head start. Long hair is a pain and I'm not used to it touching me and falling in front of my eyes and face. I almost had it cut but saner mind prevailed and I know I won't regret that its just when you need everything to pull off looking somewhat fem the long hair goes a LONG way as far as people calling you she. That or hormones can't exactly do controlled tests. IF I get it cut now I will look like a lesbian sort of. My hair is wavy and thick, and I'm surprised how blonde it is, seemed darker.
