Poll
Question:
A question was posted that got quite a bit of responses and that's cool, but I'm a numbers gal. So, I'm doing a poll of trans women. Pre-op, post-op, non-op. What is your preference?
Option 1: Totally straight
Option 2: Mostly straight
Option 3: Totally lesbian
Option 4: Mostly lesbian
Option 5: Bisexual
Option 6: Something else
Option 7: Asexual
Option 8: PanSexual
Option 9: Transmen
Option 10: Transwomen
Option 11: Not much into anything
Option 12: demisexual
I liked the previous post on the subject and the conversation with it, don't stop there. I am just a numbers gal. How do you see your preference?
A bit less picky than bi
I'm pretty close to be asexual. For a long time I looking at men and women and see people instead of partners in bed :D
I put totally straight. I'm post OP and I have always been attracted to males only.
Somewhere between asexual and totally lesbian.

when i was 12 i used to call my sexuality; bisexual, and when i was 13 i started to be straight, because i start to understand see "pretty" girls" don't makes me a lesbian, and i always were atraccted only emotionally and physically to men, but no femenine men, only masculine boys, so i'm a full straight girl.

This really draws my attention to my asexuality. I can't imagine what it would have been like to be aware of sexuality at age 12 or 13. I was aware of "sex" as a subject not to be talked about, but I didn't become aware of my own sexuality until 17 or 18.
I put totally straight, although when I was young, I tried and failed to have sex with women who occasionally propositioned me. All of my sexual fantasies are about men but no man has ever propositioned me. It doesn't matter to me any more on a purely physical level, though.
I have been evolving since transition. Not intentionally, just feeling it. Until a few years ago I would have said totally lesbian. Now I found it hard to choose between mostly lesbian and bisexual. Still find women more attractive but I have definitely been looking at guys much more differently.

Demisexual womxn attracted to womxn.
I am drawn to feminine presentation and attitude, and really don't know what might be between their legs, to be blunt, when i see someone i think of as attractive.
I've been corrected here and elsewhere for referring to myself as a "woman", so lets go with womxn. I'm not truly a 'lesbian', being ostracized by the local lesbian communities as soon as they learn I am transgender, and have been told that is reserved in local culture for natal women attracted to natal women. So thats out.
Queer is OK but a bit broad.
Socially created boxes and labels are rarely a great fit, and the labels we assign to ourselves may not match the labels that local culture assigns to us.
always attracted to women, and one in particular, not sure if I'm lesbian, but I can see it from here....

Hetero as the day is long.
It used to make things awkward for my male friends, because I ended up interacting like them as if I was sort of like their girlfriends (they used get annoyed with me, and say, "quit acting like you're my mother!").
I only had one relationship with a woman (back in 1990 - I was 27 at the time), and even that never would have happened - a very good friend of mine and I were both playing in a band (I played lead guitar and sang, and he played mainly rhythm guitar and sang), where he put me on the spot about a female band member. It turned out that she had been sending me signals that she was romantically interested in me, that I completely did not see (or ignored - one of the two), and out of frustration she told my friend how she felt about me. He told me about how she felt, and said "hey what are you gay? pursue a relationship with the woman (sic)." Feeling trapped I went through the motions of a relationship with the woman. It didn't go very well. Most of the time, it was awkward and uncomfortable (what little sex we had, was a disaster), and she began to realize something was up (I remember her telling me that she thought I was hiding something [I lied through my teeth, denying that there was something unusual about me going on]). The woman and I drifted apart after 4 or 5 months, and the relationship ended (thankfully).
I'll state the same thing I told the members of a transgender group I belonged in 1999, during a chat about relationships. At the time, I was beginning to realize that those of us who are hetero are probably in the minority, and I said, "sorry, I realize that I'll probably always have a harder time of things romantically (as a Gen Xer, most men my age are not very accepting of women with a transsexual past), but I still very much prefer men. That's just the way I am."
Thank you so much for all the comments and votes. It's cool to see numbers.
Started out only attracted to women. Explored men. Call myself bi. Open to being pansexual (I haven't explored anything with another trans or NB). But still primarily attracted to femininity.

Somewhere between asexual and totally lesbian. However, I could maybe would be happy with a trans person, no matter if trans woman or trans man.
Trans seems to remove my dislike for men. I could never be attracted to cis men, but trans seems to be fine with me. (I think)
I'm so unclear about my own gender identity (I call myself non-binary) that terms like hetero or gay confuse me. I can't say I'm hetero because which of my own gender identities do I start from?
Anyway, I'm attracted to women, for what it's worth.

A more accurate question would be "are you androphilic or gynephilic"?
I have little use for men except as a mechanic or handyman.
I have always been very attracted to women, so much so that I want to be one. I'm not quite sure I'll ever make it that far.
Since I'm female between my ears and only attracted to women I had to vote fully lesbian.

I'm not sure whether you are being ironic. I like to think that we correctly recognise our own gender and sexual orientation, regardless of how others see us. I understand how soul destroying it can be to be rejected by the people with whom we identify, though.

Totally straight" "
Bisexual"? Someone here recently pointed out to me that I may not be "a Transexual" at all but rather "Gender Fluid", or Gender Queer?
Quote from: urban dictionaryGender Fluid is a gender identity best described as a dynamic mix of boy and girl. A person who is Gender Fluid may always feel like a mix of the two traditional genders, but may feel more boy some days, and more girl other days
Or consider what I first defined years ago, "a boygle"? Or a "bi" "hetrosexual"? In my case "orientation" does matter when it comes to "which identity" ;D For me this explains alot when it comes to why I never really "socially transistioned".

Hello again Bea and I love numbers and statistics just like you.
I have had to vote "Something Else" as I am asexual with minor lesbian tendencies. It is possible that others on this thread who describe their sexual orientation as I do mine, may have voted differently.
I would suggest that for future polls, you may wish to consider "Asexual" or "Mainly Asexual". I think you may be surprised at the significant number of asexual or mainly asexual transgirls!

Yup!
Broadly, the trans population seems to break down to about 1/3 hetero, 1/3 same-gender attraction, and 1/3 asexual, as far as one can try to categorize the different possibilities.
I'm demisexual, which means that I really only feel sexual attraction to someone who can establish an emotional or romantic connection with me, and that implies womxn as possible partners. Practically, that makes me a Laurie-sexual. ;)
The fact that the vague "Something else" is leading in the poll must say something about the choices that the poll offers. :)
So self inflection and years of attempting to make sense of myself, I come to this conclusion.
Sexual attraction: lesbian, always saw the feminine form visually attractive.
Emotionally: I need a strong sense of connection and safety within the relationship to feel more than an asexual like state.
Instinctually: there are definitely some reproductive instincts wired in my brain that are clearly female. I could imagine being with a man under the right circumstances and even find a want for that, but still there exists this disconnect between those desires and not finding the male body attractive at all.
I'm not certain how common this is. I know a few other transwomen who have expressed the same sense of a disconnect between one instincts and the actual sexual attraction. It does make things complicated for certain.
I'm another 'Something Else'er.
When asked to label myself, I go with' pansexual', which comes closer than anything else.

Im a woman with a boyfriend.
I would have said total lesbian after discovering I was a transgender woman, but since then I've found myself occasionally drawn to being with a man. Still definitely prefer women, but I could see being interested in a man if there was a real connection.
Blessings,

Totally straight, 8 years now married to a wonderful man that accepts me for the woman I am.
I do believe from the feedback that the poll was likely crafted inaccurately Perhaps another adventurous soul might try to refine the topic and run another poll. Perhaps list a bunch of genders including asexual and just say check all that apply.
I will fix the poll and leave the votes as they are but allow people to update their votes. Hugs

I voted "Pansexual" as it really is more about the connection I have with someone rather than their gender or anatomical parts that I am attracted to. Before coming out as bigender and deciding to transition I mostly described myself as asexual, pan-everything else. Now I just describe myself as pansexual though I seem to have a predeliction for those of the female persuasion, given I am dating two lovely women right now (giving polyamory a try too!). Still, I do find quite a few guys to be very easy on the eyes and or downright yummy to think about.
"Something Else"
There was no poll option for "Aubrey Plaza" and this is tantamount to a veritable crime against humanity.
I am mostly a straight woman as I happily married to a man.. but I have some bi tendencies as I have dated women in the past. The person I dated before I met my husband was a woman.
Looking at some of the responses I guess I should have added the following choices:
Transmen
Transwomen
Nothing/not interested
I originally considered including the choices of trans men/women but felt at the time that it might not be well received as most seem to like being included in just the catagories of men/ women but at least one response made the distinction and I think it is valid.
What do you Think?
I have always been attracted to women. So I am lesbian. I want a lesbian partner.

Maybe I'm a bit of a geek but I thought I learned in biology class that asexual reproduction is like what worms use. They possess sex organs of both genders and reproduce with any worm. Unless the use of the term has evolved a bit with regards to people, I wouldn't describe indiscriminate sex as being equal to no sex or no urge. Anyone help set me straight here?

Also, if you want to relate to what it's like to be asexual, think of how much it turns you on sexually to look at wallpaper.
Now take that same level of sexual urge and just pretend human beings offer that same level of sexual urge as the wallpaper. That's what it's like to be asexual.

Hello V,
If you are referring to the reference to Aubreys Place I will have to say I have no feeling whatsoever. The significance of the reference eludes me. I thought it to be some sort of "inside" reference that I might come to learn later. What is the significance of the reference?
Thank you Devlyn for setting me straight on that subject.

No real inside reference other than it's just me being ridic suggesting being attracted to her is its own sexuality (She's beautiful obv, but she's super awkward and funny too).
You two look somewhat similar. Sorry for being obtuse as to who she is. I could see that as a humorous and somewhat quirky answer that I might have made if someone else had made the poll. Although my answer might have been Natalie Wood.

can't imagine what it would have been like to be aware of sexuality at age 12 or 13.
What do you call it when, for example, young teen males start noticing pretty girls? That certainly happens by 12 or 13.
I have always been attracted to women, but have been with men. Hopefully, should I fully transition, I'd still be attracted to woman, so I'm currently straight/bi and would be lesbian/bi.
Incidentally, it's because of my cross-dressing that I first had experience with other men. A friend was helping me with cross-dressing and she asked if I had ever considered a sex change (as it was called back then). I replied I had many, many times, but I would have to be a lesbian, as I didn't have an interest in men. She suggested I give it a try with another guy and I did. I then realized I enjoyed it and wished I had started sooner, but I'm still mainly interested in women. I'd love to have a threesome with a couple, but that never happened.
I was in the 3rd grade and her name was April Thompson . I must have been 8 or so. Geese, that was over 4 decades ago....
If anything, I think kids become aware sooner these days because the media and even the clothes pretty much put right in front of their face.
Best regards,
Bea

Or a real life experience. If I watch a porn movie, no matter which combination of gender of the actors, I don't feel anything but just that my time is wasted watching this. If I get wild about it, I might be interested in the makeup of the female part, or what she wears if it is attractive looking to me.
I do not get any sexual stimulation from visual images or by reading erotic stories. Nothing, I can care less about all that sex stuff!
This is an interesting topic because I find myself in a state of evolution regarding my sexual orientation. Previously I had no attraction to men. Now I definitely have some attraction to men. I am more attracted to women but I also find trans-women attractive. There are two I know IRL that I would definitely like to get to know better.
Part of my evolution / confusion is my body dysphoria. Having only had an orchie and having small breasts is having a definite impact on my sexuality. If I had the 'right' body I think I would be even more attracted to men. I have trouble envisioning sex with a man with the current status of my body.
For those that read my posts in other places and think I have this transgender journey all figured out - believe me - far from it. I think I have coming out and living authentically down pretty well but there are parts of this journey that still have me scratching my head, particularly this whole sex thing. I do want to start trying to date again soon. Getting pretty lonely.

Don't say "only" for the orchi. This is the main part to have to get into female hormone levels! Everything else is decorative!
Talking about small breasts, how are the pumps doing, is it a good idea to invest time and money on them?
With the sexual orientation I am still mostly asexual with a leaning to lesbians. Male bodies don't mean anything to me, and I do not want to have more body contact with them than a handshake!

Hello Devlyn
Absolutely! I agree this describes me and most asexuals perfectly.
Just to emphasize 2 points:
1. No participation and no urge but most certainly I am interested in romantic/physical attraction and that is to women.
2. We see nothing wrong with sexual urge and participation but for us it means virtually nothing.

Kim, I am glad that it works for you. I know your boobs are part of you dysphoria, and if $90 can help to correct this, I think the money is well invested.
I paid almost as much for the progesterone cream, which seems not to work at all! My boobs are almost large enough for my taste, but I want them to get a little more volume/roundness for a nice cleavage, and I was hoping that cream would help with, it did not!

I think somewhere here on this forum I said that i think I could also like, beside women, trans of both kind FtM or MtF, because I think both understand what trans is and what can cause dysphoria, and both have enough femininity for my taste to be acceptable for me. I think that, I had no chance to try it, because I do not know any trans pople close enough.

It is a vacuum type pump, very likely similar to a breast pump, but Kim can provide more details about it.

Similar to a breast milk pump but not exactly. It is from a company called Noogleberry. You can look them up easily enough. It is not specifically marketed to transwomen, rather all women that want larger breasts. It is basically a suction pump. It definitely expands the tissue by pumping on them, the theory is that with enough repetition that the tissue will permanently change. It has pretty big claims that I think are a bit exaggerated but with modest expectations I think it can live up to that from my 6 weeks or so of experience.

Hello again Chloe
I used similar description to Linde - asexual with minor lesbian tendencies.
I see my asexuality as no urge and no participation but still a romantic attraction to women on rare occasions.
My minor lesbian tendencies refer to the extremely rare occasion when I would like a physical relationship with a woman providing of course that there was a prior romantic attraction and also that it was reciprocated.

I was talking to another transgirl on a different forum who actually did the months-long hormone therapy to produce breast milk and she said, while successful, when all was said & done her breasts weren't really any larger at all. High doses of Progesterone was a part of that routine thus am skeptical of that too. I also tried the 2000mg cream - lol now use it as a moisturizer instead!

Obviously, "no interest or desire" can be something that comes and goes! As a pre-op trans/gender fluid girl who still always presents "as boy" I really don't see point to subscribing solely to a "lesbian community" that I otherwise do not even know. Regardless of equipment
down there one either likes you for who you are or they don't!
I can agree that sexuality and attraction is complex. I don't think a single classification defines or limits a person.
To me my sexual preference has shifted a lot. As a teen I was 110% gay. As a 30 year old 'man' I was straight heck I even married. As me - the real me at 44 years old I'm very lesbian... go figure! I still admire a man as eye candy but would never sleep with him. (and I've been with quite a few lol).
As for sex drive itself gone through the roof since I transitioned and I enjoy it 1000% more. Even after orchie when the old boy down there got... slow to respond most times. It doesn't matter because there are so many other things to do that feel just as good.
100% straight. I seem to be very sensitive to our natural scent and although I love all my girlfriends to bits there is absolutely no sexual attraction. By comparison, however, the smell of men, and one in particular, is just.............phew! Since my transition began and most noticeably since my own scent changed, I haven't even been the least bit sexually curious about other women.
I put mostly straight, because I'm aesthetically attracted to women but if they get too close, that attraction turns quickly to revulsion. I'm attracted to men and VERY attracted to their sexual parts. ;) ;D
From age 10 I was attracted to both boys and girls so labelled myself as bisexual as soon as I heard the term until a few years ago when I thought I was primarily gay (as a male) then primarily straight (as a girl) as soon as I realised I was trans.
I think I'm just working my way through the LGBT spectrum lol. Although the only way I could ever be in a lesbian relationship would be with a transwoman as cis-women don't do anything for me sexually.
(**internalised transphobia alert!**) I could fall in love with a post-op transwoman and a pre-op transman, but sexually there would have to be a penis involved. Guess I just don't like vaginas.
Not sure how I'd feel about a transman's penis as I've never encountered one. Ok I guess, but there would have to be no visible vagina nearby...
Apologies to anyone I have offended in this post, but that's how I feel. :)

Wow.
Taste the Rainbow! <skittles!>
No offense taken here. It is your life and you used "I" statements, so how could I be offended at YOU living YOUR life?
Hugs!

That is a very good point and one I need to remember! Thank you Ricki ;D
I'll probably regret posting, oh well, here goes. I'll not vote since I'm so confused.
If I'm honest with myself .. I've always felt some attraction/interest/curiosity in man, always definitely been attracted to/interested in women. Now there seems to be a balance of interest for both as far as looks go - nothing sexual. My sexual interest is 100% towards my wife. Is this due to my rational mind directing everything towards her? Most likely. She is my love, my life. I am totally monogamous.
I guess I'm not in a position to say one way or another at all.

Faith, you sound perfectly normal in this in my opinion.
Way back when, the Kinsey Report (1948,1953) noted roughly a third of the population admitted to experiencing both opposite and same-sex attraction. Other metrics show around 80% of the population may have some mix of opposite and same-sex attraction.
I suspect that many people will consciously deny having this blend in favor of the culturally acceptable binary model. Those of us who break taboo by transcending gender tend to be more open to considering other taboos, particularly around sexual orientation.
None of this really interacts with the desire to be monogamous, poly, sex-positive, or any of the other experiential variations. It is perfectly possible and reasonable to have some mix of opposite and same-sex attraction, and be monogamous with a single other person.

I don't mind having a penis (it folds up small lol) but wanting to play with one? pass.
I mean like I'm 95% straight. I'm into men and i can feel like some attraction to women? But like the thought of sleeping with them creeps me out.
I said "mostly straight". I'm not attracted to men at all. However, if I could be a woman, I think I would at least like to try PIV sex. Emotionally and physically, I'm all about women. Yet, it's the typical female experience that interests me
Ah, this poll has been resurrected from 5 years ago.
I do not think I voted last time so thought, why not. It's as relevant now as was then. But also thinking perhaps a new poll to see if things have changed. But this one needs to be archived first.
So I voted Bi, over the years I have been leaning further into the bisexual range from lesbian. I am finding men attractive as a woman, where I was never Gay before transition. To me it's a natural progression. The more female I am the more straight I become. As still pre op and absolutely ancient it will be nothing more than fantasy.
Hugs

Polls like these leave me to misinterpretation or at least a concern on how I honestly answer as being AMAB and MTF. I consider myself a woman. I am sexually attracted only to women. Does this make be a lesbian or transbian? If so, I am not straight but I am gay? Does it matter if the women I am attracted to are straight or lesbian to ascertain the correct label? I am not concerned about the labels.
Confusion arises!
Also confusing if two AFAB lesbians are a couple and one transforms to a man and they remain a couple. Are they now straight or still gay? Bi?
This is not anything important to me, it is simply a curiosity.
Chrissy
I am happily married to a woman. I voted totally lesbian. I have no interest in men, they turn me off.
