I got my variance approval from the state to officially change the gender marker on my DL. I am going to go get this changed tomorrow. I am so happy.
Congrats, Jonni. I know that's exciting for you!
Hugs,
Nichole
Which state?
Minnesota.
It went without a hitch. The picture actually came out halfway decent and they were really nice about it for state employees that is. I should be getting the new one in the mail in a few weeks! Yay!
Congrats!
I was going to do that as soon as I started T, but now I think I'll wait til January after chest surgery and when I plan on truly coming out (if I don't do it before then).
Jay
Good for you, Jonni and congratulations
Oregon is the same way. You need a letter stating your chosen name and gender, and the fact that you are in transition full time. But it has to be from a DMV recognized therapist. My therapist is on the list and has sent me the letter. Hopefully it will be here tomorrow and I go in Wednesday.
Love,
Janet

Yay! Happy day!
I'll never forget the day I opened my letter from the medical advisory board of the MVA. Woo hoo!
Congrats!

Congrats, Jonni. ^_^
I can't wait for the day when they don't even put gender on the drivers license.

I filed mine last Wednesday.
Congradulations! I remember when I got my Oregon license changed. It was the best day in my life. I would say better than my surgery day. It meant that the State of Oregon recognizes me as a female and that all other states would from then on recognize me as such. By now you should have received it and I hope you are very satisfied with the marker.
I am still waiting for it. They sent me a letter saying I didn't provide all the information needed. Like do you have diabetes, Had another DL in another state within the past 5 years... So I had to provide them with the information they said was missing.I faxed it to them on 7/3 and my fax machine tx report said it went through.
Funny thing is I remember filling that section out completely, my answers even carried through to my carbon copy. I hope to get it this week, I am going to call Monday just to check.
Did you have a Minnesota driver's license before? If you only getting a replacement for an existing one, they should have all of that. When I had my name changed, they took the absolute maximum amount of time to send it to me that the law allows.
caleybug! bite your tongue! i hope i never have to part with that great big beautiful F on my license. they'll pry it out of my cold dead hands!
oh, I wish it was that easy here.
:o
Congratulations btw :D
I totally agree, PJ. Now that mine says 'F' I will never give it up. They will have a heck of a time prying it from my cold dead hands. ;D

Yes,I have been a resident here for over 4 years.I have lived here since I was a child other than a few years living in other states. I had my name changed on it over a year ago and now having the gender marker changed. It was due to expire in August so it is getting renewed too.IMHO I think some ultra conservative pencil pusher(s) at the state has issues with this and is toying with me. LOL
When I had my name changed I got it pretty fast.
At the Equality Virginia conference today, I was in a transgender caucus, and we talked ID -- how arbitrary and unpredictable government workers can be when it comes to gendering us, no matter how we play by their rules (or not). Because often they don't even know their own rules concerning us.
I expressed dread that my 18-month grace period for my pre-op F will expire next year before I'll have a chance to get SRS (losing my job before I had a chance to finance it pulled the rug out from under my SRS timetable). I heard from another lady named Michelle that the DMV compares your DL record with Social Security, and uses whatever gender the Social Security record has on it. I lucked out when a nice lady at the SSA gave me an F just for the asking (though technically she wasn't supposed to, I must have caught her in a good mood--it was the end of the day on Friday before a beautiful autumn weekend). So that gives me hope, if when I renew my license next year and write F on the application form, they pull an F from my Social Security record and go with that. Knock on wood!
My girlfriend was with me and said, "You can just tell the Virginia DMV that they have to obey the federal government because it's above them." I said, "Uh, remember how Virginia had a bit of an issue with that back in 1861..."

Well if they were to have that same issue now, you should be OK. If I remember correctly they decided back than that they were not part of the United States and joined the Confederacy. Which meant they no longer followed Federal law or anything that the Feds said or did. ;D

The point is, by a fluke of luck, the federal SSA gendered me female. Now I hope the Virginia DMV will be persuaded by that.
My variance has been denied.
I am so sorry to hear that. Did they say why?
You'll get there just keep up your sprites.
It finally arrived on Thursday. Yay! ;D The picture is actually one of the best pictures ever taken of me. Especially for a DL photo. Now if only I can get carded somewhere for something.
get carded ok lol ;D
kimberly
Great! Now Jonni's going to be out buying booze all over town, just so she can flash her I.D. Next she'll be doing 90 in a school zone ... ::) ;)
Congratulations on the big step. :eusa_dance:

CRAP!!!!!!
Figures. I am more of a Coke Zero drinker.
Things didn't go according to my "Master Plan".I went to the L store with no make up on and I didn't even get carded! I got maam'd instead! Second time today too!
Note to self: Next time don't wear short, short cut-offs,a tank top with no bra and flip flops!
I hardly ever get carded. I know that after my DL was changed I wanted everyone to look. I think the only time I get my licensed looked is when a clerk expecially womans store want to check my ID for my credit card. No one else get carded. I know as my partner will check out before me.

After getting a new letter from my doctor, Phil at OutFront tells me that the Dept of Public Safety has agreed to grant my variance. I should be getting the letter soon.

In my state, they require clerks to card everyone who wants to purchase cigarettes, even if you look 80. ::)
Oh! Try to buy some cold/allergy meds with pseudoephedrine in it! You'll get carded then. I don't know when having allergies became a crime, but they're required to log ID's on everyone who buys it. (crystal meth, I know...)
