How would my fellow androgynes feel about this? I'm not talking about surgery, more along the lines of piercings, tattoos, so on.
I just got a center labret piercing yesterday and I love it. I think it goes a way to help feminize my face a little more (drawing attention away from the chin? Helping the angles of the jawbone?)
Any other enjoy it and/or use it to help express?
I love mods and have a fair few, tho not as many as I'd like. My nose is pierced, but I'm not wearing anything in it at the moment. I also have a monroe piercing, but had to take it out for one of my jobs and now I'm going to need to get it redone. I have a black rose tattoo on my head from when I used to have a mowie/slaphead (damn I would love to start shaving my head again).
These days most of my mods hav some spiritual significance. I have my "employee ID" (LOKAEIGN) inked in runes down my left forearm. On my other arm I have a ritual runic brand, 3 Gebo runes which looks like XXX. I have two ritual ashed cuttings (the skin is cut with a scalpel and then rubbed with ash, in this case ash from a sacred fire): Loki's name in runes on my left upper torso, rubbed with ash from a fire I used in an initiation ritual earlier this year, and the Valknut (Odin's symbol) on the right. Those last two have faded a bit and need to be redone at some point, although I'm holding off in case I decide to get a brand or whatever instead of more cutting.
I find the mods help me feel less at war with my body. They're a reminder of its mutability, of my capacity to change and heal; also that my body, for all the things I hate about it, can still be a vehicle for the Beings I serve to work in this world.
I used to be into having a lot of body mods. Perhaps it was a way of distinguishing myself - In the past I have had a couple tongue piercings, 3 lip piercings, nose, multiple ear piercings including the tragis, flesh tunnels, belly button, and a Prince Albert.
Now days I just have a couple holes in my left ear and one in my right. I would have 2 on both sides but my last piercing on the right did not take - too much scar tissue under the surface I think.
I also have a host of tatoos. I like them. Mainly colorful tribal stuff that represents my 'mixed' gender. For me tatoos have always seemed a rite of passage. Passage to what I am not sure. I have not gotten any new ones for a few years but am planning on something significant. Perhaps when I change my name I'll get a new one.
I <3 BODY MODDING!!!
i have my septum and eyebrow done so far. also half inch tunnels n my ears, planning on going bigger
im planning on stretching my septum to 8 gauge
planning on getting my tongue done at 8 gauge and stretching to 4 then splitting it.
planning on dermal punches in the flats of my ears
planning on scalpeling my labret to 0 or 00 and getting a plug in it
and eventually subdermal implants. :D
chet, i don't actually understand what half those words mean. I'm not really one for all that, they are all such permanent type symbols and I am not a permanent type person. If I had anything I would have a dandelion made out of question marks.
I had a dream about you last night Pica. I came round to your place for a cup of tea and we sat and chatted and you gave me a hug. Then I realised I was late getting home and had not told my wife. It was good having a dream chat. Don't remember what we talked about but the tea was something like english breakfast served in china cups, and the hug was good.

pica, piercings arent as permanent as tattoos IMO. if you would like to know what they are, i can shre some videos with you over youtube. :)
Hah Chet, I understood the terminology until after the tongue split. And was grimacing all the way through.
I might want my ear(s?) pierced. Otherwise, no. Don't like body mods. Have a ton of scars from self-harm, guessing that doesn't count.
Faboo Chet, looks like you have a lot of work ahead of you! I wouldn't go nearly as hardcore, and some of the things you are purposing are rather permanent, but the results should do you well =D

I've been thinking about getting my ears pierced nice clip on earings are so hard to find.
I recal a conversion I had ages ago If you were to get a tatoo what would it be.
My answer
a dotted line around my neck with the words "cut along dotted line" at the back
I haven't and probably never will.
No tatts, though I've been drunk enough in several tattoo parlors with others, and only one hole each on each ear.
Oh Nicky your poor soul. I'll try not to bother you in your sleep again.
We probably talked about books, i'm always talking about books.

I enjoyed our dream liason, don't worry about bothering me. We could start a dream book club ;)
I like your new piercing Somy. You don't look like you need to shave much, I hated shaving around my ones. I ended up plucking with was ouchy around the holes. You should use that pic for your avatar. I like it better than your other one.
Both ears double pierced usually a stud on top and a hoopin the bottom, I think my penis piercing is called a fernum but it's front to back not side to side and the bat signal tatt on my left shoulder :) future mods include tounge, nipples and belly button piercing along with some tribal tatts in various places including a tatt on the back of head where I will shave my nape =)
I've got lobe piercings I've had since I was five and one on my upper right ear (the piercer called it a 'helix', I think). My next one will be a left helix to balance it out. I also want a second and probably third lobe piercing in each ear, as well as ones on the very tops of my ears (I don't know the terminology, sry!). For a really long time I wanted a labret, but when I got my right ear done, I nearly passed out, so I think I'll stick with ears unless or until I toughen up a bit. I always said I wanted a tattoo, but on my 18th birthday I chickened out. I still plan to get one or two, probably some sort of star and maybe something spiritual. Not sure of placement yet.
Bah, Chet! Dermal punches are for the impatient!
As for me, I only have my crappy gunned ears at the moment. However, I plan to gauge them, albeit to a small size, get my right nostril pierced (wanted that longer than transition, hot diggety!), get sleeves (thems: one arm love, the other truth), bellybutton piercing, anti-eyebrow, industrial, snug, and septum. And that is just the ones I am sure about. Woah! In consideration includes lip piercing (labret if you want to be all hoity-toity and specific), tongue piercing, maybe more ear piercings, uvula piercing (probably not), and Jeweleye procedure.
Yes, I got obsessed with bod mods in sixth grade through junior high. Transsexualism kind of took over these past few years, but I've given a little thought to more minor modifications in the past many months. Not much, though: most of these were planned earlier. For me, it's good to wait a long time to make sure I want these things, as later I might change my mind (i.e. horrible idea when I was 11 to get a tattoo of my astrological sign). Also, some would be difficult for physical reasons (i.e. tongue split, rejected partially because I play saxophone, lip piercing on side that I think already has receding gums, uvula piercing when I have a horrible gag reflex).
Adrian
P.S. Apologies to those who didn't understand what I just said, such as Pica.
Why the heck are all us full transsexuals replying to a post aimed at androgynes, anyway? I guess we just think we're hot (ugh, don't think about that phrase too literally).

aaah, don't get moody, it's just a phrase he used.
It could have been just a phrase, but I think that it is important to call people on the language they use. Language has a powerful influence on the way people are treated or considered.
Like it or not there seems to be a common perception in the transgender world that androgynes are just lost transexuals, people that are kidding themselves, people taking an 'easy' way out of transitioning, transexual 'lite', deluded, confused, fence sitters etc. You might not be prepared to ever rock the boat, but I will when I think it needs rocking.
i just think when you're all in the same boat, it would be a bad idea to capsize it. Especially for a slip of the tongue/fingers.
I love body mods, tattoo's and piercings, just love 'em
I have my lip, nose, belly button and ears pierced
I plan on getting the other side of my lip pierced, the middle of my nose, my eyebrow, my tongue and possibly nipple after top surgery (if I'd be allowed? not sure) and I want to stretch my ears a bit, no idea how to go about it like
I have no tattoos yet, because I'm obviously still working on my body shape, I don't want to get tattoo's that might get all moved about and end up weird looking. But I have these in mind:
two big black outline stars on my hips
I have a design that's going to cover both of my forearms
some sort of tribal design on the top of my back/shoulders
I might think of more =P
I'd like to try corset piercings on my sides too, but I know how difficult they are to get right
yeah, im gonna be one of THOSE people XD

Many of my FTM friends are human carpets - especially on their backs.
I have no tattoos and don't plan on getting any as I can't imagine any image I'd like of myself for the rest of my life. I'd like to get my ears pierced and then maybe get some "private" piercings.
Someone offered to give me a tat once. I refused. I am scared to death of needles. It was hard enough just getting my ears pierced. Of course most of my relatives have either multiple piercings or tatoos.

So long as the tattoo is past the scabbing stage, no problems.
Picking at scabs can pull out pigment if things haven't healed enough.

I did it. Got my cart piercing up to 6 gauge. No pain, no blood.
this is a painful thread to read. heh. I actually love piercings and tattoos, but the whole fainting thing really gets in the way. right now i just have 3 in each ear, two on bottom and one on top. nice and even. i do want tats, i'd probably do them on my shoulders/upper back area. i actually think i could deal with the needle thing if i couldn't see it. that's my big problem. i like to look and then things start getting spotty...heh. and it would be even better if i had something to lean on so i didn't have to hold myself up. then i'd be all right. heh.
When I was younger I had one of my nipples peirced (at the Guantlet in SF before it was a popular thing to do) was a drunken part of my life didn't deal with it well and had a lot of infections. I am going to have it redone here soon. I have 3 tattoos and am going back and forth about a few more. Then the typical ears 2 and one.

I love body mods, especially tattoos. I love to ask people about their tattoos when they have time to talk and learn about the stories behind them. I myself have plans for a decent amount of tattoos. I hope to actually get one soon after the new year, a celtic knotwork armband going around my bicep likely on my right arm.
No facial piercings for me yet because of my job, but I've been thinking of a labret and an eyebrow piercing plus more in my ears. I believe my tattoo will come first though :) I've always been intrigued by celtic/norse patterns and knotwork and it's something that's very close to my heart and getting even a simple tattoo would make me incredibly happy and sort of immortalize that love for those designs on my body.
Any other tattoos I get I haven't decided on except there's a very high chance that I'll get a tattoo designed with the logo and name of my favorite band on it.

Very late apologies. I was just trying to think of some way to differentiate, as some androgynes I've know identify as transsexual. However, thinking of your perceived implications that androgynes are confused transsexuals . . . egads. If you thought that's what it sounded like, it probably sounds like that to other people too. The phrase shall never be typed by my hand again.

i just got my tongue pierced. :) it was paaaaaiiiiiinful. the most painful mod yet. probably only because it was pierced at an 8 gauge. >_< im going to wait for it to heal then split it.
8g will do that for sure XD I found my tongue to be the least painful of all my mods.
There's actually a funny story behind my piercings. I went to boarding school the summer prior to and throughout my senior year of high school. Durring the summer school, we all went to the Vermont Reggae Fest. (I swore up and down that I did not partake of any foreign sacraments while I was there.) I got my ear pierced while I was there. When I came back, my dorm parent noticed and was like, "Oh, cool... hey, wait! You only got one ear pierced? Come on, man. Nobody's gonna think you're gay." And my reply was, "Hey, I only had the money for the one." Immediately, my dorm parent busted out the twenty needed to pierce my other ear.
And that, kids, is why both of my ears are pierced.
lol thats so awesome. :P
Actually, I've been half considering piercing my ears.

Sorry, I had to say it. No meaning should be ascribed to that statement but humor. ;) Honestly, if you want that form of decoration, go for it. On the ears, it has the advantage that a small stud of anything close to neutral color (things like silver or gold even) is only peripherally noticed (no pun intended).

I have a tattoo that takes up half my back. It's a vine of of black roses, and the vines are tribal.
I have a labaret as low as it can go and my ears guaged out to a 1/2.
I had tunnels (guages or whatever you fellas call them) in my lobes for years. I am so glad they mostly returned to normal piercing size. They were just getting smelly and I kind of got sick of them. Also I wantd some nice dangly earings.

the smell comes from shed skin that has nowhere to go, so it gets trapped. that can be minimized by taking out your earrings and washing your ears daily like in the shower or something. also using jojoba, vitamin E, or emu oil on them will help keep them nice and moisturized which will help with skin sheding. it will also keep your ears fat and healthy.
I read emu oil as emo oil, my brain was working over time trying to figure that one out ;D
I prefer teatree oil.

Oooooo I had my lip pierced!
I have my left lobe pierced and not my right to seem more masculine. I have an industrial on my right ear. I do want to get a small lip piercing on my left side. Some day....when I'm not around my parents.
I have the Black Speech of Mordor tattooed on my left forearm. Ya know....That stuff written on The One Ring....:P When i save up enough money i'm going to get more geek related tattoos.
I have the urge for another piercing
torn between:
eyebrow
other side of my lip
tongue
At one time I had five gun piercings in each ear, although I rarely wear earrings in any of them except for the two bottommost ones anymore. Most of them have probably healed over by now.
I also have a (rather regrettable) tattoo that I got many years ago of a woman with *really big bewbs* on one of my shoulders (which is not the way I originally drew her, but I was pretty drunk at the time and the tattoo artist took some "artistic liberties"). :o
I suppose if I was Amy Winehouse I might think the tat was kinda kewel, but I ain't... and I really don't. :eusa_eh:

for an whole pound I bought myself a really interesting pictoral history of tattoos, I'm almost temptified.
Black Speech of Mordor tattooed on my left forearm. Ya know....That stuff written on The One Ring
I'm pretty sure the writing on the Ring is Elvish, as they made the Ring.
No, I think it was blackspeach, the elves did not make the one ring. Sauron made it in Mordor (black speach uses Tengwar, which is the same script elvish languages use so it looks like elvish).
I just saw Josh's vids on splitting his tongue. There was this one when they were all pale and looking like they were going to puke, that did me in. Brave man, brave.
Do you have any issues with talking? Eating?
As I used to ask my students all the time... "Did you really read the book, or just watch the movie?"
Gandalf speaking, in the chapter Shadow of the Past, Book One.
In Eregion long ago many Elven-rings were made, magic rings as you call them, and there were, of course, of various kinds: some more potent and some less. The lesser rings were only essays in the craft before it was full-grown, and Elven-smiths they were but trifles - yet still to my mind still dangerous to mortals. But the Great Rings, the Rings of Power, they were perilous.
A few pages later.... Still Gandalf....
'No,' said Gandalf, 'but I can. The letters are Elvish of an ancient mode, but the language is that of Mordor....'
So, if you have the tattoo of the script as it appears in the book, what you have is not Mordor - I don't think a written version of Mordor is found anywhere in the book, but Elvish.
Sauron helped the Elves to make the ring, but the real ring magic is the Elf's bad act, and as a result one of the outcomes is that they are pretty much self-banished from Middle Earth.
Is Elvis related to the Elves ?
Also, I had one industrial on my <-- ear. But after a particularly stupid bike accident, I no longer have it. I have the two earlobes pierced, and I wear dangly earrings almost daily, people find it funny, apparently.
And I'm going to get an orchideoctothing eventually, I'll try first with androblockers to see what happens, so I don't regret it later.

As you said, while the letters are elvish the language is from Morder. No disagreements there.
I'm still pretty sure Sauron made the 'one ring'. I don't think elves had a hand in that and it was unlikely they were there at mount doom helping him out. That was the great trick really. He went to the elves in the guise of Annatar? and helped them make the rings of power. Then he went away and made his own that controlled the others. Certainly the other rings of power, the 9 for men and 7 for the dwarves were made by Celebrimbor (elf) who was guided by Sauron. The 3 rings of power intended for the elves were also made by Celebrimbor without Saurons knowledge, i.e. the one's Gandalf and Galadriel and Elrond wear, but because of they were made useing the knowledge gained from Sauron they were still under the control of the one ring.
