Title: Are there more bio M or F androgynes?
Post by: Just Kate on February 08, 2009, 02:09:33 AM
Perhaps I haven't looked far enough down the threads in this forum so I apologize if this has already been hit on.

So the overwhelming majority of transsexuals start as biologically male.  So far from what I've noticed on the androgyne forums/lists I've seen, the majority of androgynes seem to start as biologically female.  Does anyone have any numbers or ideas on the reality of which biological sex produces the most androgynes?

That is an interesting question. I've seen both but have never kept count

I've noticed this too. It seems to me that more female-born folks are comfortable with an ambiguous gender identity (i.e., androgyne, genderqueer, gender-fluid, third gender, neutrois, etc.) than those born male-bodied.

I don't have any answers, but I've often wondered why this is (or if my perceptions are even correct) too.

i think someone did a count a while ago and came up with it being fairly even.

If they were being very good androgynes wouldn't it be hard to tell?

Probably not... without a panty / boxer / bloomer / briefs / jock strap check.

...and even then...

I'm thinking more male, in that females are given a lot more leeway in this area before they feel a need to label themselves.
Title: Re: Are there more bio M or F androgynes?
Post by: KYLYKaHYT on February 08, 2009, 11:22:24 AM
Maybe. But then I also think that anyone, male-born or female-born that experiences any level of gender dysphoria is probably quite consciously aware that they are quite different from the majority of their peers.

And are labels necessarily self-applied, or are they sometimes applied to us by others?

I teflon coated myself and spray myself with Pam before I go out, that way labels never stick.

someone did a poll and it came out even.

You can do a new poll if you'd like.

I agree. Male bodied androgynes are more likely to examine themselves for this reason.
But female bodied androgynes are much more likely to be militant and genderqueer about it.

Even before those labels, it was always far more OK for a girl to be a tomboy, then for a boy to be a sissy.  Hell, in '73 I had to fight like a dog to take Home Ec.  Now, girls could take woodshop or autoshop, but a boy wanting to cook?  Never.  Odd, I got some grief for it until all the guy figured out that I was making cakes and brownies in school and all wanted in on that.

Do we even classify as bio males or females?
Anyone watch clips by "icecoldbath" on youtube? To take a leaf from her book we could say we are bio-androgynes. I think I was born this way. And now taking from Kate Bornstein you could also say I am simply an androgyne with a penis.

I actually think it is useful to think of yourself as having a bio male or female body as they are slightly different machines with their own running needs. Also it seems to be important in how we express ourselves as androgynes and how society sees us.

Riding Michigan Central trains to and from college, I would knit, noting and ignoring female stares. Later in life, when I made dishes for pot lucks, my wife would automatically be complimented. When my wife went on business trips, her mother would suggest leaving me ready-cooked meals (I, being responsible for most of the meals when she's home).

On the other hand, when I took an adult-ed sewing course, the instructor insisted I make a skirt, like the other students. We were told to wear them the last day of class, which fell on Halloween. Nor has there ever been an eyebrow raised when I've taken adult-ed cooking classes.

The AARP is sponsoring a sweepstakes. The prize is a makeover ("Christopher Hopkins, a.k.a. The Makeover Guy, did an amazing job on the winners of our 2008 Faces of 50+ Real People Model Search (check them out in our multimedia special). Now, one lucky reader—chosen in a random drawing—will score a trip to Christopher's reVamp! salonspa for his or her own beauty makeover."). I wonder if they are prepared for long-haired androgynes, cross dressers, and the rest of us. Anyone else an AARP member? I wonder if I should enter.

Of course, I know that such roles and presentations have nothing to do with gender, but then what does?

Smiling sweetly whilst pondering what to make for supper (no smoothies--it must be something my wife likes),

I recall being asked - at length - why I would want to take Home Ec, and the responses a) to pad my GPA, or b) gee, me and 30 girls in a class together I had to get lucky were both out of the question.  So I told them that I was moving out of the house into an apartment as soon as school was over, and I thought all that stuff would be good to know.  Which was true.  When it was suggested that girls (this is '73, in a Catholic School, so not exactly progressive) do that kind of work I asked "So, are you saying I should get a girl to live with me?"  No more calls, I had a winner.

I also do all of the cooking around my house, and I like going to the grocery. My wifes idea of dinner is a bowl of cereal. Unfortunately, I took a job out of town and i'm gone most of the time. My youngest daughter complained that they'll starve to death with me being out of town LOL.....

It is fun to experiment with new recipes and try different seasonings and such. Every once in a while you hit on something and it becomes a family favorite.

I do the cooking for my family too. Me and my wife have a good partnership going on - I cook and she eats, seems to work like a charm.

Right now I have a hankering for a good stroganoff. I like to make them with chicken thigh meat. Unfortunately I have become lactose intolerant again  :'(. I wonder if I could do a pacific inspired version with coconut cream and lemon juice.......I suppose I would then need to use fish which is already a samoan dish....
Title: Re: Are there more bio M or F androgynes?
Post by: Jaimey on February 08, 2009, 04:12:07 PM
Hmm...you know, I think you could make a chicken stroganoff without dairy products.  I can't remember what my mom used as sauce though, but I think the only dairy she used was a little sour cream and you could leave that out...hmm.  For beef stroganoff, she just used a store bought brown gravy mix.  Maybe they make a chicken gravy?  ??? (is that even stroganoff? :D)
Title: Re: Are there more bio M or F androgynes?
Post by: Nicky on February 08, 2009, 04:16:44 PM
I think it is the sourcream which really makes it - the combination of acid and creamy flavours.  Actaully I could probably get away with a bit of sour cream anyway, I heard it does not have much lactose in it.

The last one I made I used plain cream and vinegar. Came out really good. I think I liked it better than using a white wine sourcream style sauce.

Here's a link to a dairy-free stroganoff recipe: http://www.chabadominican.com/templates/articlecco_cdo/aid/775538/jewish/kosher-beef-stroganoff.htm (http://www.chabadominican.com/templates/articlecco_cdo/aid/775538/jewish/kosher-beef-stroganoff.htm). It calls for beef but chicken could easily be substituted. I googled "kosher stroganoff recipe", but googling "dairy-free stroganoff recipe" yields more recipes.

For tonight, I have settled on turkey cutlets with marsala sauce, sauteed fennel, and couscous with dried cranberries and almonds. That should all be quick and easy, so if wife calls when she gets in car (as she often does) supper should be ready when she arrives. I hope that does sound to weird. We could kill the bottle of Tuscan red wine I used for the Stracotto (Italian pot roast) Thursday. Sorry, no dessert and no mixed beverages.

Now to clean the kitchen from this morning's hurried french toast, sausages, and fresh squeezed orange juice (my idea of lunch for one was coffee and cereal with 3 fruits and 2 nuts--easy to clean up. 'Fraid I make a messy housewife.

Grateful for a warm, sunny day,
S

I keep getting invitations to join AARP, but won't because of their political affiliations w/ the drug industry lobby...

I love to cook, and so does my partner, we split it up 50 - 50. Mostly vegetarian meals. I made organic buckwheat and veggies for dinner tonight.

Forgive me for going on so about food. There are not many places to talk about such things. It doesn't come up much in guy talk, and I rarely fit into girl talk. Even in the General Discussion forums, cooking, sewing, knitting, children, etc don't come up much. It's all fashion and makeup.

Anyway, supper was a success. It all cooked so fast, I was courting disaster. Dishes came close to, but didn't burn. At one point, I grabbed for the cranberries and picked up dried Michigan cherries instead, but they went with the couscous and almonds as if I had planned it.

Z, my partner also likes to cook but has a more important role as breadwinner. Yesterday, she made hot dogs, baked beans, and sauerkraut to go with the basketball game we were watching on TV. I will enter the sweepstakes, but would be surprised to win. And finally, I must say your dinner sounds good; haven't eaten buckwheat in quite a while.

ramen noodles. left to my own devices, i eat ramen noodles and my famous 'breadless' peanut butter and jam sandwhiches (jar of peanut butter + jar of jam + spoon) everyday.

Now I know where to send all the strawberry and raspberry jam, I'm served. The rest of your list is OK. I had a philosophy professor, Frijhof Bergman, who lived on cabbage one entire winter. Scott and Helen Nearing wrote a book based on the premise, that one should spend no more time preparing food that eating it. I, myself, eat the same dish daily: sliced banana and strawberries, blueberries, chopped nuts, grape nuts, unsalted popcorn, and milk.

But when my first fiance announced she would cook nothing but steaks and roasts when we were married, I knew I had to take an active role in the kitchen. That was the night my parents met our train at midnight and brought us home to a big bowl of homemade spaghetti.

Eat! eat! my child,

OK, so how about the manly tasks? How are you at raking leaves, mowing grass, taking out the garbage, and replacing burned-out light bulbs?

I once read a book stating popcorn was a colonial American breakfast food. I tried it and liked it, and just kept adding to it. Grape nuts was a homemade Mennonite breakfast food, though I'm too lazy to make it from scratch regularly (it involves baking a cake, crumbling it, and baking the crumbs).

Gotta keep your strength up,

landscaping, concreting, building fences, painting, plastering, changing fuses, car maintenance from changing oil to replacing wheel bearings, chopping wood, digging in the garden, hanging shelves. I seem to manage rather well at the manly home stuff. My wife tends to mow the lawn though, long grass bothers her more than it does me.

I do not . Probably statistics show more M. However, culture and social environment seem to dictate who we think we are. So any census would probably be biased.

googled it:  Usually tend to be bright and creative people.
androgynes

Might be persons who are born with both genitalia? Don't know. I guess you are who you beleive you are. My guess.
You are what ever you want to be.
What ever rotates YOUR world.

Fact: In some species on earth e.g. some fish, gender changes naturally. It's sort of like adult puberty. Within every human there are both female and male chromosones. We know that. A small glitch between the X's and Y's makes a difference in our physical appearance. Society and our culture seem to dictate our clothing, actions and reactions, etc. All of the rest is simply a matter of preferance or desire. In some cases it my be a matter of survival. Can a person live with ones-self a life time without being true to "one each"? Be your own hero.   I applaud you all.

Being equal. I have recently read a study done in Denmark and the U.K. concerning brain patterns of TV/TS/TG persons and it was found that the brain waves were very similar to or the same of a natural female. They used an EEG.     I belieive that is electroencephalograph. That's a difficult word to spell. Genevieve

Maybe it appears there are more females. Tomboys are accepted and women wearing denim pants, jacket and cowboy boots is common in some areas. They're crossdressing but it's not the same as man in a skirt. A common misconception in our society.

I didn't know that *horny* was so limited in scope and easy to categorize. I was under the distinct impression that there are (at least) 31 different flavors of horny.   ;D  :-*  >:-)

My version of being turned on is generally more spiritual/emotional than it is physical.

I have monkey male parts.

There have been studies performed on young sex offenders using only visual images. We would been amazed at what may be a turn on to some people.

I think this one is the one I was talking about, but it's not the same reporting.

I don't know how to access the actual research papers.

Laurry, Green jello is boring. A squirrel sandwich with extra mayo might be good. I have eaten iguana once when I lived in the tropics. They told me it tastes like chicken. B.S. it tastes like iguana.   There was a incident in Salt Lake City of a guy the news called the Bird Man. He kept breaking into the local aviary. According to the news he had a thing for thing for the emu.

P.S. Eating a hotdog with lots of mayo can be fun. So after I take a bite it leaves mayo dripping from the corners of my mouth and dripping down the chin. That attracts attention and I like attention.

I think this one is the one I was talking about, but it's not the same reporting.

I have to question the validity of the first study cited because it was conducted by the infamous J. Michael Bailey; a scientist who doesn't seem to have much use for the scientific method. Some of you may remember Mr. Bailey from his highly controversial book entitled "The Man who would be Queen: The Science of Gender-Bending and Transsexualism" (http://"http://www.genderpsychology.org/%20-%3E-bleeped-%3C-/j_michael_bailey/") that was published in 2003.

I'm not saying that I think the findings of either of these studies on male and female sexual arousal patterns are entirely untrue, but I do believe that they are more of a generalization than a hard and fast rule.
