Well Lady-so-called Gaga is here tonight...[not interested], but I sent my Lady to go see her [$200.00] tickets....Who does she think she is Madonna or something...!!! Do you think she is worth tha' "publiz" she is getting and did I waste $200.00 smack-a-roos....???
Whats tha' most you'd pay to see someone preform...? And if you could watch that same performance in a week or so [for free] on a large screen in tha comfort of your home...would you still pay to see a live showing....
I'll be honest. I was mighty tempted to drop $300 for the full package to see Gaga this summer, but transition expenses are eating me alive right now. Just to see the Gaga show doesn't cost $200-300, though. Tickets to the show are fairly competitive from what I've seen. It's the add-ons that pile up.
well the tickets cost me $200.00 purchased them almost 2and a half months ago...a friend of my Lady stood outside tha ticket stand right when they went on sale...soooo yeah she got good seats a hot outfit to wear, and a chance to see a $62million dollar [fill-in-tha-blank] perform...
I had tha' honors of seeing her fer free in Palm Springs CA...she was a'ight...I must admit though...I do like her Alejandro song...I mean I get it....to me...it's a pretty good song...better than the others I think....
Quote from: LaPapito on July 31, 2010, 10:07:06 PMWho does she think she is Madonna or something...!!!
I'm guessing so, since she is acting exactly like the Madonna of 20 years ago or so. Even right down to the mannerisms in how she talks:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eR1J6WK0dhE&feature=player_embedded# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eR1J6WK0dhE&feature=player_embedded#)
She's borrowed a lot from other artists too, but Madonna seems to be her fixation.
I like Gaga, but she's just repackaging something.

I kno' huh...cause
Alejandro is definitely Madonna....not to mention she
bit from
Ace of Base's Don't turn around et al...yeah she is a piece of work to say tha' least....[saying this as I am getting ready to join my Ladyfriend in a couple of hours fer the after-show party...!!!] Woe is me....woe is me....!!!
never paid my mom buys them but my first concert was godsmack in like 2003 idk i think i was like 9
I'd pay anything to see Britney Spears or Madonna over and over even if I could watch it free on tv later. Nothing beats seeing it in real life. And Lady Gaga is quite spectacular!
ETA: Lady Gaga never has and never will have anything on Madonna. EVER.

Interesting enough...I too have never paid fer concert outtings...tickets were always bought fer moi....soooo yeah it felt good buying me Lady a ticket to a concert I kno she is really gooing to enjoy...but however I probably would wait to see it free in me own living room...with a kick-ass sound system on a mega screen....[believe me when I say, I am by-far cheap] cause I am NOT...I just don't do tha crowd-thing to well...

<3 I understand Madonna is above and beyond all, but Britney is just special to me in a different way. Her music gets me through bad times and she's my fave artist ever. I'd pay anything and everything. Even though I've already seen her lol. We were kinda far though!
Ok peeeps....I'll let you kno how tha' concert went 2morrow...have to meet friends fer tha' after-show delite....ciao to everyone....and I do hope your life is as you've always dreamed it would be...tremendous Ciao...until we meet again...!!!
Sorry to post as an oldie.
I've seen lots of bans live. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin. Beatles (OK I'm old) McCartney, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, The Who, Jimmy Hendrix, etc. There is nothing to compare to a live performance, no matter how quick and excellent the recordings are you don't get the rush. I'm sure Tekla would have a comment!!
From what I have seen and heard, Lady GaGa and Pink would be awesome shows to see live. $200 is about average I think.
Live music is the way to go.
Cindy, now where did I leave my walking frame.

I would have killed to see those acts, though. If only we could live forever, lol.
So ya
Thought ya
Might like to go to the show.
To feel the warm thrill of confusion
That space cadet glow.
Tell me is something eluding you, sunshine?
Is this not what you expected to see?
OK, Paul McCartney (you might have heard of him, his old band The Beatles are gonna be big some day I'll tell ya) is currently doing his last tour. In SF it was one night at the baseball park. It took 4 days to set up, one to tear down, for a 3 hour show. Total labor cost to build and tear down that stage, his techs to run it, security and clean-up, the rental of that equipment (the lights, sound, LED screens, cameras, pyrotechnics) and the trucks to haul it all was easily over $1,000,000 for that one show. (Yeah, that's right, one million dollars just to put on the ONE show.) And that's before the promoter makes his money, it's not counting the cost of renting a baseball stadium for a week, or the money that Paul is making to cover his last divorce.
Now 2.5 years ago you could have (had you been hip enough, and you we're not) seen Gaga at the Regency here, 800-1000 capacity, and the tickets were like $40-50. Hell, she didn't even sell out Last time through she played the Civic Center, 8000 people, with the accompanying need for a bigger stage, larger sound system, more lighting, more techs, and the tickets were $80 and up and two shows sold out in a matter of minutes. Now, she's playing places like the O2 and the Nokia Center, even bigger stages, full line-array sound systems (and delay towers), full lighting, full video/LED projections, and the cost goes up - I'm sure over $750,000 a show, and that's on the cheap. At that, I'm sure the nosebleed seats were not $200. That's the cost to be up-front and personal.
Watch "This Is It" and look at that stage, the elevators, the size, the aerial lifts and all that - what do you think it cost to design that, build it (in component sizes so it can be taken apart, shipped in trucks, and reassembled just about anywhere in the world) and then set it up?
And your home system, no matter how 'kick-ass' is wimpy, wimpy, wimpy comparison to a good line array, or even a half-assed line array. I know a lot of people expect me and my work buddies to have these fantastic home audio systems, and most of us don't. Once you get used to the real sound of a full system, it's not even worth it to try to get something at home to reproduce it - not to mention the neighbors hate it when you play your home system at 110db. My home system is a Boise wave radio. I'm never going to be able to get something that captures the power and the glory of the the 'Live and Let Die" drop (not to mention the pyro that goes off at that moment). You hear your home stereo, you feel a concert system. And wait till this fall when Roger Waters goes to tour The Wall, complete staging, including (of course) the collapsing wall, the sound system, the lasers and all the rest.
Hell, if you are using pyro, you have to shoot it all off twice. Once during the show sure, but you have to shoot it all off the day before, for the fire marshals so they can sign off on it first. No fire marshal sign off, no fireworks. Lasers require someone with a federal certificate to operate them. And, if it's outdoors, your going to have to get FAA approval too (something about lasers in the eyes of pilots flying airplanes that is bad somehow). Everything that is hanging has to be certified, and has to have certified people there to supervise the installation. I mean do you really want day labor hanging a couple tons of electrified equipment over your head on a couple of chain motors? Didn't think so.
And you ain't fooling me either - I know that the $200 you spend on the ticket is pretty close to the amount you are going to spend on the outfit, the dinner, the drinks and the recreational chemicals.
Oh, and last time I saw Madonna it cost $80 (at Coachchilla) and Paul Oakenfold opened for her, and after she was done we went and saw Massive Attack, and then Tool. Not bad for $80.

People go to concerts for different reasons. My only beef with Madonna and Britney is that they mime too much, and after going to a pop/dance concert where the act was able to do everything herself without miming and still sounding great, I feel a bit spoiled in that way.
But I think it also depends the reasoning why you're going to the show. The performance could be subpar vocally, but the overall performance and the stage presence could be top notch. I'm pretty sure Madonna is more of a performer than a vocalist, which is why I'd go into the concert with a different mindset.
Nothing wrong with going to see someone in concert twice. I know people who go to 3 concerts on the same tour just so they can experience it live again. I think that's a bit extreme, but I'd definitely see someone more than once. Sometimes you just get hooked to seeing someone live.

Ahaha, so true.
And on that note, I'd rather drop 200$ on a concert and see an artist I love than spend 12-20$ on an album.

We used to let the Grateful Dead follow us around, we'd hit the road for a month and catch 12 or so shows in 4 different venues - but, in fairness, they never played the same set twice. Something like Gaga, or Pink Floyd, is scripted down the split second, and rehearsed well past a few miles of its life.
There was so much pot smoke (and the really, really good 'best of Northern California' cannabis indica stuff) at Paul McCartney that he even commented from the stage about 'how nice it smelled here in San Francisco.' I'm not even going to have to tell you about how much smoke was in the air up at Mountian Aire for Phil and Bob. Let's just say they didn't need hazers to make the lights look pretty, the crowd did its own hazing.

Britney lip syncs but Madonna doesn't and has never. She's always live. And to me theres nothing wrong with doing it. The show isn't better or worse because the songs weren't live. I don't get why people complain, it's never made a difference to me. People just try to find reasons to hate, I think. I'm not saying you are because you sound smart and level headed but the majority of people just take it too far. -___-
And I can relate to going more than once. :P My dream is to follow Britney around the country on a future tour, if I can afford it :P
Yeah, Madonna never lip syncs, that why she has dancers who do all the dancing for her. But anytime anyone is out dancing like Miley, or Brittany, you can bet the vocals are on tracks, because you can't dance like that and sing on key with the proper breath control at the same time.

Madonna dances a ton as well. Idk what Madonna performances you are watching. And Miley Cyrus usually sings live and Britney used to sing live. She probably can't anymore cuz she smokes.
Oh the same ones I've been watching and working at since 1985 when she played the Trocadaro Transfer in SF (500 people). She's move, and pose while singing, but the real bust-a-move flygirl stuff you can't do and sing at the same time. Try it, you'll be breathing too hard to really sing. Even the King of Pop danced, or sang, but not at the same time.
Madonna has mimed a few songs live, although they're very few. Perhaps I jumped the gun on that one.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with doing it on TV(most artists have mimed on television because of the network). It's only a TV performance, y'know? However if I'm paying to hear someone sing their songs
live and they're miming a great deal it feels kind of cheap. That's just me, though.

It's true. Well, you can dance and sing at the same time, but it either sounds horrible or it has to be very minimal.
I don't think Madonna, or Gaga for that matter even knows the word 'minimal.'

I've never heard of anyone going to a concert just to hear how they sound live..lol. That's not why I ever went. Plus even if Britney didn't lip sync and just danced to her music it would've been equally amazing because good pop shows like hers are about the visual, which to me is the point of going. Seeing your fave artist in person and all the cool setups/choreography going on. I neva cared about hearing them live lol

And I never said that was the
only reason either, just one of the reasons why
I'm not fond of miming at live shows.
I like the variation of vocals when I see live shows, I like how they handle the songs and how they adapt to it, because it's hard work. So live vocals are part of a reason why I go see a live show and many other people go see live shows... they're apart of the reason why I like listening to a bunch of different live versions of the same song on youtube. They're the reasons why sometimes I'm bummed out that a certain backing mix of a song wasn't made for studio release. I mean, people who go to acoustic gigs aren't there for the cool setups/choreography either, everyone is different. Like I said before, everyone goes to live shows for different reasons, I'm just stating my reasons.
I've got nothing against Britney, Madonna or Lady Gaga as artists. I really like Madonna and Lady Gaga, but I also critique artists I like objectively because I'm an artist myself(both visual and vocal.) If fans like those things I'm critiquing then that's just fine, just as long as they don't take what I say too personally. I don't outright hate anyone for petty reasoning.

I never claimed Gaga lip syncs either, but in this very thread I did make a criticism about her, did I not? That's the reason why I made that remark.
And why not talk about acoustic shows? I'm talking about concerts and live performances in general and I had the impression that this thread was directed toward that as well. I was never exclusively talking about pop acts either, I've actually been trying to keep it as general as possible.

Well, like I say, people go for different reasons and really does depend on the style of the show I think. You don't mind miming in a pop show and would rather see it as an act, that's fine. I personally enjoy all that and the vocal ability.
I've been to plenty of pop forums where people have said, "Oh the vocals were amazing tonight!" and so on. And then there are people who couldn't care any less about it. Different strokes.

Yeah :D I mainly don't care about the vocals being live cuz it's not going to affect me or my enjoyment of the show. Plus, I know Britney has talent and I enjoy it recorded or live lol. :P
Most I ever spent on a ticket was £80 to see the first zappa plays zappa live tour - I saw them in Manchester and their were technical problems but it was a fantastic night. Dweezil and Steve Vai tried to outdo each other, Napoleon Murphey Brock was a character and sang great - they synched with old zappa performances - it was a good night.
But the best gig I ever went to (also in manchester) was A Hawk and A Hacksaw with the Han Hungar Ensemble for £8. It was in a decommissioned church and they marched up the aisle playing squeezeboxes and b->-bleeped-<-ipes and drums and each song segued into each other to become a proper climax towards the end. It was the force of the rhythms and the outdoors busking instruments in the echoey church that did it.
I go and see Misty's Big Adventure whenever I can, they are a local band who make just enough touring and they always know how to throw a good party.
