I was surprised, this morning, but really like it, Susan. Very clean and crisp.

It was a shock to see it. I like it too. the logo and the site name at the top are a little fuzzy. But all in all, it is a refreshing change
Not sure people other than admins are getting in - the peeps in chat say it's still showing a maintenance screen.
The new format will take some getting used to for me.
hugs & smiles

I'm not admin and I'm in.
Looks new to me. :)
Because I just turned off Maintenance Mode...
I love it! It looks so nice! Simple, straight-forward, and attractive =]
Looks good, will take some getting used to though.
Whoa! It definitely got an audible "Whaaaa?" from here. Looks really clean!
I'm not a fan. The text size and extra empty space, while perhaps helpful to others, only forces me to scroll extensively, especially since I am accustomed to setting my forums' themes to something that has smaller text than normal. It also takes a lot longer to load.
Susan/Admins; I cannot access my profile/account settings; it keeps saying database error.
Wow, this is really nice! I just love the way the forum looks now! Two thumbs up from me!!
:o "Ahhhh! What happened?!?" :D
Looks good though I've noticed that a couple of the posts with polls in them give me an error when I try to look at them, otherwise though I love it
Seriously cool!
Yeah, I got the maint screen initially, but when I came back a little later, the new stuff showed up.
On my screen, some of the forum topic icons are showing up as missing, I don't know if that is something that has to be worked on or I have to refresh my view.
Otherwise, it strikes me as a better visual layout. Not quite as cramped.
Thanks, Susan!

Nice Look :)
....but I keep getting "databse error" on my contacts in "My Messages" and it says I should report the fault?
Otherwise Thanks... ;)

Nice look, it helps my old eyes.
But, how do you turn off or lock in place the adjustable text entry box?
Sometimes my mouse strays over it and it sticks and there is NOTHING I can do to get my mouse unstuck from the slider except pressing alt-f4 to kill the window and lose the text I entered?
Once my mouse sticks to the slider any mouse movement only resizes the text entry box and no key or button combination will cause the mouse to let go of the slider. :(
Thanks.. :)
the other one used to do that to me - just clicking over on the very side of the screen outside the box always fixed it.
I liked it better when the recent posts list showed "Re:" for a reply and didn't for a new post. Now there's no way to tell. And the child boards in a single line list will take some getting used to, harder to find the one you're looking for than when they were in columns...
I tripped out on it at first but then realized that it was easier to read... Even without my glasses
I think I'm starting to like it :icon_chick:

Those are the exact things that have been nagging me too. It's confusing when the newest posts don't have the "Re:" cause it's hard to keep track who posted when and started what threads at a glance. I could just click on the thing each time but I liked it better when I could get all the info right away.
The one place where the child forums list is a real issue is in the blogs section. It's kind of hard to tell which thing is a section because there are only commas separating them and they get lost within all the forum names.

oh, that's the things i was going to mention. i think especially the child boards could need a slightly different layout.
looks nice otherwise, though...
some threads don't open and say database error ???
Yeah my cheese thread is doing that :'(

Mine also
It will take getting used to by me as well. I thought I had to reload... so I reloaded twice and got the same screen!
It'll grow on me :)
EDIT:
Database error when I click "Profile."
I'm still a tad wibbly
I also notice that the "My Bookmarks" is now gone.
database probably needs rebuilding, lots of missing files atm too
Love it so far. If I could make a suggestion, I think it'd look best if you made the background image a solid colour instead of a tiled image.
Yeah...it still needs some work.
I prefer the old format, but oh well, I'll get use to this one.
I'm with the 'pro-old format' crew... Meh I'm feeling autistic *grabs a shot of vodka*.... I'll get over it...
Can we change the logo?
I want this background image http://zooboingreview.blogspot.com/2009/11/free-seamless-texture-watercolor-paper.html (http://zooboingreview.blogspot.com/2009/11/free-seamless-texture-watercolor-paper.html)
and the wiki skin I pm'ed about a while back
;D
I want my posts to have a pink or lilac colour background
Meh, I think I prefer the old format. At least <Ctrl + mousewheel down> helps with the proportions, because otherwise there's just too much empty space for my tastes. As the response has been so positive, I guess it's something I just need to get used to :)
Edit: Actually, I really have no idea what it is. Font size maybe.
me likey!!!!
Luvs it! (:
is it just me, or is the ftm-board gone (well, not gone, only not listed from overview)?

Several of the child forums aren't listed on the front page anymore. Hopefully that will be fixed soon.
Always issues when upgrading to new versions of software. :D
When you have a site as big and as active as this one, it can't really be helped. I'm sorta diggin the new layout and everything.
in the view unread messages list there's been the addition of "Ignore topics"....
That's gunna mess me up at least once.

There are always going to be issues when changing formats no matter how you try to streamline it
I'm rather impressed with how various issues have been quickly addressed and handled
I could get used to it, but I do not like it.
Have to scroll more now, the background is weird and there's no shortcut to the FTM board on the main page that I can see. What was wrong with the old format?

Where is the extra scrolling?
I have to say I'm really happy with these changes. Everything is starting to look a little more pro and clean.
Good job.
lightvi approves and it makes text easier to read :)
Bad part is my view new replies to posts isn't working anymore :(
Quote from: Susan on August 08, 2010, 09:48:00 PM

Well I'm pretty sure it's narrower, so the pages are longer. It at least seems that way. Never measured the old pages and I can't now. Oh, btw, "new replies to my posts" doesn't work. But maybe someone already mentioned it, didn't read the other posts.
I was not sure that I was in the right place. looks nice and new.

I have defaulted emailed notifications to off, you have to turn them on again.
The page will expand to whatever width your browser can support. It's nice and wide on mine.
I haven't spent a lot of time with it, but it looks good! I just came and was shocked to see it looking different, as it's been the same for the 3 years I've been a member.
Only one problem I've encountered; I'm also having problems with the "Updated Topics" page. It just says "Database Error: Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator."
From what I have seen so far the colours are brighter and clearer. Text is much sharper. In my opinion the new look is a little too bright, however one will get used to this over time.
One gripe, pedantic, I know, but old drafting habits die hard. But, could you fix up the title 'Susan's Place Transgender Resources" image, it is not centred correctly, pretty please my eyes cannot take it any more.
My congratulations on those who worked to bring about the upgrade.
Kind regards

That was done intentionally way back when. BTW if anyone happens to see the original image with the girl (she had legs) get me the url where you find it.
Hi Susan
I have reset my notifications to on and when I select "Show new replies to your posts" I end up with the following error message "Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator"
I have tried it several times but I still get the same error message
I have also logged out and then logged back in.
The error is being displayed as a database error.
I currently cannot see a simple solution from my end. Your help in this matter would be appreciated.
Kind regards
Sarah B

I like the overall layout too, but I am confused by the order switch on child boards. It's not too bad, only.. MtF and FtM boards have been split quite far apart, and I felt like the main trans categories flowed in something like a chronological order before - legal at the end, advice at the beginning. M'oh well. :)
All of that hard work is finally paying off.
One thing that is giving me difficulty is when I click "Show new relies to your posts." It keeps giving me a database error.

It was caused by the ignore topics mod which has been removed until it is fixed.
I'm viewing the site using Safari on my iPad and it looks very nice. Much better, renders very quickly, text and pictures are crisp and clear. :)

whoah :O i like it
i was feeling jealous of other forums because they use these shiny stuff and we didn't x_x
SMF 2.0 - very nice. I upgraded the forum I manage to 2.0 earlier this year, and was happy with the change.
EDIT: Whoa! I do *not* have hundreds of posts. I think it was like 30.
The img needs to be capital letters IMG
Also I found that none of the code boxes seem to work so I...
Right click on the finished ticker itself
Left click on Copy image URL
paste into signature box and add IMG brackets
I've edited my first reply above... see if that helps :)
It showed the URL momentarily but it didn't have the [IMG] brackets... Did you type in the [IMG] brackets on each end of the copied URL?
Remember the one on the back end has a / before the IMG
That is odd... I did mine just before the changes, maybe that has changed also
Well I tried
Janet can probably fix it for you
Quote from: Dee_pntx on August 10, 2010, 03:38:36 PM
I have been trying totally in vain to change my profile!
I can NOT place the countdown ticker code in my signature at all!
EVERYTIME I try it gives me a nasty error message as follows,
QuoteThe following errors occurred when trying to save your profile:
* The following BBC is not allowed within your signature: abbr, acronym, anchor, code, ftp, flash, glow, i, iurl, li, list, left, ltr, me, move, nobbc, pre, php, quote, rtl, s, size, sub, sup, shadow, time, tt, u.
I had the same problem and I wasn't even editing my signature, merely trying to change my website address. Not sure what it's seeing that it doesn't like, but it was evidently something that worked before because I didn't change anything except the website name.
I am not sure what the problem is but I see your ticker and the written words too. ???
It wasn't me, Hon. But the
"[img]" and "[/img]"
must be in capital letters.
Oh dear.... Not reputation again.... Right, right?....... right?..
I'm a somewhat newbie to the site... what is this whole reputation thing?
You give good rep if you think the person did a good post or bad rep if not.
In my experience rep leads to alot of bitching :-\ On another forum I used to go on it caused alot of arguments.
could the reputation thing please be optional.... I personally strongly disagree with it on the grounds that it just creates hierarchy. Which in my opinion is not what any website forum really needs. I don't care if you lot are into it but it should be optional that's all I'm sayin :P

Amen...
The problem with reputation is that, once people get a few negatives they sometimes seek to generate these as a sort of identity.
That can lead to two camps, the hollier than thou and the wolves, looking for bait.

We enforce a reputation policy and review the logs regularly.
We do not allow people to play games with the reputation system on this site. What we prefer is that if you feel a post was extremely helpful, or contained useful information then you should applaud the user. If you feel that a post violated the rules or spirit of the site then you smite. Be warned smites are considered hostile and must be justified. I can promise you that any user abusing smites will not do it more than once, and the smite will be removed anyway.
It is not optional, however if you don't like it, don't use it.
Now you can read more on the reputation rules at: https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,18960.msg146855.html (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,18960.msg146855.html)
The only reason it was disabled previously was due to a problem with the reputation logging software which has since been fixed. You can review the reputation stats and if you feel someone got undeserved reputation notify Nero or myself.
Anyone can review the reputation logs at https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php?action=viewkarma (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php?action=viewkarma)

Yeah but you can't stop other people using it against you. If someone has an opinion that is different to you it's just that an opinion. To me that can get in the way of the intended use of it. You can't moderate how people will use it... not unless you check every single click and then question each users intentions and motives for every single click they make.
I just think there should be an option in our profiles to select whether we have one or not. But I know that won't happen *sigh*.

Once again no one is going to get away with abusing smites. It's not gonna happen. Other than that it's a subjective number.
Here's some of the opinions on staff on the plus's of the system.
QuoteWell I liked the karma system because it was a great way to highlight some of the best posters (meaning: most supportive and helpful to others) by upping their karma.
I really think it made people feel good to know their posts were beneficial to someone.
I also think it eliminates a lot of one liner posts, because people have a way to say 'well put' or 'I agree' without making a post.
Based on previous experience the system was more of a positive influence rather than a negative one. Concerns mirrored the ones posted here but they were in the minority on this issue. If a problem develops I will review the system and make adjustments at that point. But as long as we monitor the system then it is not going to be able to be abused.
But why can't it be optional? If people express interest in not wanting to be a part of it shouldn't that be considered? Not just concerned that person using it but also having votes given to them?
Could it still function being an option?
Quote from: Muffin on August 11, 2010, 05:09:51 AM

It's not optional, that's all there is to it.
That's the end of discussion on this topic. Again if there is an issue with abuse of the system, feel free to contact me or Nero via pm on it. Otherwise it's not a topic for discussion on the public forum.
Related Topics turned on. If matched the forums will show 5 topics at the bottom of a thread that it feels may be related to the topic you are viewing. It seems pretty good so far.
I just noticed that, I think its a great feature. I also see a lot of the bugs have been worked out. The forum looks great and I think its better than ever.
The issue with signatures has been fixed, was a messed up database setting.
Just wanted to say that the site is working great :) I've occasionally run into a database error but usually by the time I refresh the page it is fixed. Way better than any other forum I've been on. Probably a stupid question but can someone explain how to give rep? I checked the two links you posted Susan, I just don't understand the how to part. Sorry if the question is posted in the wrong place.

You need 50 posts to give Reputation. On a user's post you should see a thumbs up and thumbs down. Click them
Aha I see it now. Sorry about that. Thanks!

But finding previous threads I've contributed to is a fri##in nightmare...

Is it still this way for you? Yesterday (The day you posted this) I posted some pics in the photo sharing thread in just for us, and it previewed fine and shows fine to me, and it still does today. In fact I can see everyone's pictures in that thread.
If you can't see that stuff now, perhaps there are some profile specific settings that need to be fixed?
@everyone:
I haven't had any trouble with errors on the site so far on my computers (Ubuntu 9.04 Firefox, Ubuntu 9.10 SeaMonkey, Debian Testing IceApe). The only real complaint I have is that Japanese text is nearly unreadable under my profile pic on my 1024x600 screen, but it looks alright on my 1366x768 screen, it also looks alright when posted into a signature or post, so that is no big deal.
P.S. Does the Gallery no longer exist?
Okay, I'm very resistant to change, but am starting to be okay with the new look. ;)
But now you've gone and done it. You've moved my forums around and put them all in different places. Now I have to totally change how I surf Susan's. Kinda like the grocery store re-arranging and now I can't find the bread crumbs. :(
I'll have some cheese with my whine....
Jay
P.S. If you're gonna change it all up you might as well change the color scheme, too! The orange NEW buttons clash with the pale blue background! ;D
Yeah I was pretty surprised when I logged in and some forums had been moved around. It's actually organized better as things are properly situated with like topics, such as the ftm surgery forums being in the SRS section. However, it does take awhile to get use to and definitely changes how I navigate the forums. :P
I jus like simple , easy to use and for computer challenged individuals like myself , as long as I can get on from time to time whatever ........... ellen
