So these pics are me on Halloween and it was mostly people I didn't know. A group of people told me like halfway through the night that they were really convinced that I was a girl and that I made a really convincing girl. I really wish I knew how they knew, so I was hoping you guys might have some answers?
you dont pass????? O-o
what? you look completely cisgender to me, very cute too
omg thanks! Maybe it's cuz I had the wig off at one point and I didn't change my voice idk!
that was probably it.. keep the hair long and work on your voice and im sure you will pass fine
It would depend on when they said that you made a convincing girl. Because looking at the pictures, you are very much a GG. That outfit was way too cute.
I could never get away with it, but you rocked it.
Thanks Elijah and Janet! I'm growing my hair out and working on my voice (according to friends I don't need to change it. Idk you tell me haha I use my regular voice on my vlogs) And Janet I felt like I looked like a street walker lol! Thanks though
If anything kept you from passing, I'd say it was the wig itself. If they could tell it was a wig up close and personal, then that's probably what tipped them off. Besides the wig you look very passable. :)
I have heard your voice and you sound very much female. So it has to have been when you removed the wig. Or some one told.
Ether way you should not worry about it. You will do fine.
Thanks everyone! Seeing myself, I was so shocked at how good I looked. I was in shock but I was so happy. :)
also, keep in mind that since it was Halloween and people were wearing costumes, everyone was attuned to look for pretense.
On the other hand, on the average trip to the mall, almost no one is thinking that someone around them is hiding anything so they are not looking for it.
I haven't seen you actually walking so i can't comment, but the way you hold yourself in the third picture gives it away to some extent. Maybe I'm just being crazy, but I feel like when most women are just standing, their feet are pointing outward to some degree. Yours are parallel, if not slightly pigeon toed; this gives an impression of lack of balance in the shoe, typical of someone not used to high heels. Girls early in their transition are often still learning to walk in heels, and tada, there's the link.
I also feel like women rarely stand with their feet "next" to each other. One foot is usually either ahead of, or behind the other. See examples:

Once again, take what I say with a grain of salt. Just a personal observation. On an unrelated note, I hadn't realized how hard it is to use google and NOT find porn. I probably tried a dozen variations of "girls standing" "women talking" etc; people are filthy.
Cheers.

Hey there Brittany!! I think you totally pass from the pics... I think people were just uppity on halloween because it is halloween. I think it was just the wig, but you face and body looks just like a gg! :)

That could be something, but I don't normally stand like that, it was just for fun haha. Actually looking back at it I was like my feet are really straight and it looked odd. A bunch of girls complimented me on them and were like I'd die if I wore those, you rock them etc. I was like omg ty :D

Aww thanks! I actually went into Safeway with my sister and I didn't wear the wig and the lady was like thanks girls! We died! Haha
Ok - honest opinion?
Right - first two pics very good indeed 10/10 - no problems there. I agree from those two pics you look excellent.
Last pic definitely needs work. To my eye there is something very wrong about that pose. It's something to do with the position of your legs, feet and the way you are holding your arms. In fact the whole body posture is wrong somehow. It looks kind of squared up and too solidly "there" if you see what I mean. I don't know if that makes any sense I'm at the edge of conceptual language here.
Now DON'T get worried about this because mostly it will come naturally as HRT redistributes your body fat and weight and also you will just get used to things so really please don't panic at this stage.
Also bear in mind that mine is a trained eye, so don't go getting all down about this because I have seen a LOT LOT worse, but to be honest in that last pic I would have picked you out in less than a second if I didn't know you.
Sorry :embarrassed: I am really not trying to be unkind here but you asked for honest feedback and I see no point in sugar coating it or you simply won't learn anything.
The good news is you did LOADS BETTER than many do and I'm sure you will perfect it all very soon. :)
It's the wig, Britney - the fact that it's so clearly not "you." When people see hair that's obviously a wig, especially in a Halloween context, they automatically try to figure out what the person under it "really" looks like.
Your natural hair, or maybe a natural-looking wig, would eliminate that issue. You used to have an avatar with what I think is your natural hair (short curly auburn?) and that passed just fine.
I'm not going to pick apart your posture in the last photo, you just look like you were playing around (the way you were standing and the face you were making go just fine with the Ke$ha-esque look you had going on)
Well your boobs look stuffed but honestly your very passable and your already turning me into a big ball of envy again :P

Aww thank you!! :D And my boobs were stuffed cuz I don't have any yet! These pics are me one month on e & spiro.
Passing comes mainly from 'inner' confidence...not what's on the outside...
Though camouflage (cultural standards of beauty) natural or created can of course help. One of the benefits of the RLE and fully transitioning is that you can also fully relax into the sense and being of woman that you truly are....
It's no longer just a dress-up act... so by definition is made more real...
Early in it was other women who'll read you and children more quickly.... men bless em, if the legs, butt and boobs are doing there thing, oft get lost in that....
But as always the more you are... the more you'll be....
Which is why for some of us changing our lives completely is the only long-term solution....?
And passing includes mannerisms of both body and speech. I have inadvertently outed myself a few times not by the sound of my voice but by what I said. Passing is the whole package, not just what you look like in a picture. As Cruella said, it is the inner confidence that shines out. You know you are a girl and don't even think about it. How do you get there? Just keep going out.
You are well on your way, dear. Persistence pays off.
- Kate
I just watched your Vlogs and think you are coming along fine :)
I did not come out until I was in my first year of college...lol geez it was a strange time for me 8)
Give it time and study the little things women do that men do not. Body language such as the way women might brush their hair away from their face at times. Stance and word choices are also things that people notice in women and will help in transition for a MTF.
I stare and stare and try to find a guy in those pics. But there is nothing that comes out as masculine. Even under my scrutiny, you would pass 100%. It could have been your voice, but that seemed to be covered. It could have been your mannerisms, but I don't think that would be a problem for you. The only thing I can think of, is someone snitched on you :o
You look really good, don't stress it.
A lot of what I would have said has already been mentioned in earlier posts, so I won't repeat them. My advice would be not to panic or worry about not passing 100% right away. Remember that you are only in your second month of hormones, AND that was your first time out in public as Britney. Inexperience and nervousness can and will affect passing ability. With time and experience and practice you will get more confident in public and it will feel more natural, then passing should be a breeze for you. My gosh you are SO pretty!!! HRT will definitely be great for you!
HUGS!!!
I was gonna say the same as Cruelladeville frankly. So I agree with her point.
But the thing with girls is they tend to try to make an impression with their appearace.
So, the question is, what impression are you trying to make.
Incidently, agreeing with pebbles here, you got another ball of envy. A few more and we might dcide we're mad of snow and come for you. >:-)
Seriously, you look great. You body is wow. You have beautiful skin and lovely eyes. All you need now is a large packet of confidence.
But never stop working on your appearance.
Hmm... Maybe your "a bit big" nose and your "wide but not that wide" shoulders make you "not 10000% feminine", but nowhere near "not passing".
If you were clocked, I really don't think it was anything that we can see on pictures.
To be honest, I'm having trouble finding a reason you wouldn't pass.
One thing I would say is that you definitely come across fairly ambiguous. Your voice is definitely better than many others, however it is slightly neutral too, but I'd say definitely leaning more on the female side.
I truly am not sure, I am fairly sure that without prior knowledge I would read you as female based on everything I've seen so far.
One thing that might be a factor is height, I don't know how tall you are, but if it's over 6' that could attract attention and cause people to question.
That combined with a prominant adams apple (which I couldn't detect in the pictures and video I saw) or something else rather definitive could push people into thinking male.
That and you have to remember it's a Halloween party, so minor problems are probably more likely to get you outed than normal because people are already questioning what they see.

I'd be curious what you could possibly say apart from "back before the sexual reassignment" that would make someone who otherwise completely passes be suddenly read.
I have never bought that mannerisms or speech content make any real difference unless perhaps you are INCREDIBLY borderline already.
Beats me, you look great.

This I highly disagree with. It's something I've heard many times, and it's something I simply don't buy.
Passing is being read as female or male in accordance with your preference, reading is the observation of your characteristics to determine gender, your characteristics are read by other people from an external viewpoint, it's as simple as that.
Never once in my life have I ever seen anyone male or female who, because of a lack of confidence, caused me to ever waver in my already established gender perception.
Maybe I'm unusual in that regard, but I honestly think this "passing is all about your mind" is complete crap.
In response to Ashley4214. What you do on the outside often mirrors how you feel on the inside. If you feel confident, you'll look confident. If you feel insecure, you look insecure and give people a reason to wonder why. Otherwise I totally agree. It's all about what's on the surface, but what's on the surface often times reflects whats beneath.
If you feel like a woman, act like a woman, and have confidence, but don't look like a woman; You'll just look a really effeminate gay guy.
If you feel like a woman, act like a woman, and have confidence, and only look mostly like a woman; People will often times give you the benefit of the doubt.
After having read and dealt thoroughly on FFS, here is what I think.
Ok I'll be honest:
1. Prominent Brow Ridge
2. Eyes Brows too low
3. Nose a bit masculine
4. Cheeks need to be more full to appear more feminine
But overall believe me sweetie, you're very beautiful. But someone can be very beautiful but still not passable at 100%. These minor stuffs need to be corrected to eradicate ALL doubts.
I think you look really good.
However, they might have picked up on your voice. I think if you worked on making it more feminine in pitch (your voice is still a bit deep) then they might not have been able to clock you. I haven't seen a picture of you walking or just making movements so I don't know how feminine those are, but I'm sure they're fine.
(I think your nose is fine--cisgender women have all sorts of noses. The women on my dad's side of the family have noses that resemble yours so I'm sure that's not what was making the people clock you.)
Overall, though, you're very cute. =)
i think you do look like a female in those pictures, but a picture only does say a thousand words. in person, people pick up on alot more. that wig reminds of of taylor swift btw :)
ok, i just watched one of your vlogs. without a wig on, and i think i see the problem. you have a large forehead area that is characteristic of males, but when you're dressed femenine, you look fine. so, i wouldn't worry about it. you're also on hrt, so you should wait and see what it does.
Thanks everyone! I was going to quote you all with responses but their is so many posts!! :(
I'm learning a lot and I now have confidence that with time I will pass fine and be comfortable. I wasn't really trying to pass or anything, but I thought it was really cool when the girls told me they thought I was one haha.

I disagree. She is still early in HRT. HRT can give her amazing results. No one is perfect, many girls suffer the same types of issues. She can still pass 100% without those features you mentioned.
Britney, some of your features are a little strong, as someone pointed out, but I really think people have to be looking for that before they will start thinking "man." I really had to look, myself. I think you're cute.
As one or two posters have already mentioned, Halloween does impel people to look for what's "under the mask," and it's quite common for men to dress as women on that day. So folks might scrutinize you until they assemble just enough data to conclude that you must be one of those men. Everyday activities are a better guide for whether you're being read accurately.

Kate, I'm very curious about this; can you give a couple of examples?
You do pass... u just look really mean in the 3rd photo. oh and in the 2nd photo ur bra looks weird, like theres nothing there so ur doing that wrong. try stuffing or wearing tighter shirts with a pushup bra. Back when i was flat i tried breast forms but theyre sooo annoying and dont look or feel real. so i would rather just stuff with toilet paper like every other teen girl out there lol.
Passing is so much more than just the look. You look pretty good, but the wig is a huge tell in my opinion. Also, your breasts kind of do look fake in the 2nd photo... Hormones will help with that. Attitude also makes a huge difference. If you aren't confident in yourself, you're more likely to appear timid and possible cause more scrutiny.
Along with that comes behavior. By the time a child has reached puberty they've already learned quite a few gender specific gender behaviors. As years pile up, people learn more and more about what is accepted for their gender role. Just little things like mannerisms, tone of voice, ect... are all tells that people will pick up on.

yeah, it is. i've had that same type of experience when i was in a clothes store with my mom. this one lady that works there knows my mom i guess, and then a couple moments later she asks, ''is that your daughter?'' passing just feels amazing, especially when it's something new to you.
I believe that it requires more than looks to "pass" (that is, not have people question your presented gender). People will accept you as you present yourself unless there is something in your look or manner that makes them question it. If you act timid, scared, out of place, they will look at you more closely, trying to determine why. That's where confidence comes in – so they don't look more closely.
[Thread derail]
Perhaps I believe passing requires more than looks because I can't believe that I pass on my looks alone. But I do pass. Perhaps I think that I out myself inadvertently because I will say something and people will look at me like I'm odd. But I've always been odd and people have frequently looked at me that way. Perhaps now I see them reading me as transsexual when they are only reading me as odd. I still don't know how to relate to men as they are used to having a woman of my age act around them. Perhaps I send mixed signals – both heterosexual woman and lesbian – and the men are confused.
[/end derail – sorry Britney]
Britney, don't sweat the small stuff. You are lovely. With practice and continued hormones, you will be knockin' em dead. :icon_flower: And being treated as someone of your true gender is just so absolutely wonderful.
- Kate
OK I've just shown the 3rd pic to my wife, who knows nothign about you or where the photo came from. I just said it was a halloween pic.
She says it looks like a girl who's a bit annoyed or trying to look scary.
On the basis of your photos, I think you look fine. I don't agree about your ridges, your eyebrows, your nose or anything else. I really think you look OK.
But I also really think you need to believe it.
You know, when I was living as female, I forgot I was male. OK, that sounds really lame, I was madly in love and thought it would go on for ever. (I was 18, gimmie a break!! :police: ). But since I never thougt about it, no-one else did. Or if they did, I just ignored it. Can't please everyone.
And, thinking back, my facial features weren't that diffrent from yours. My skin was still smooth I was as slim as you, or perhaps a bit slimmer. Think we're about the same height, 5' 6" And I didn't really have your hips.
passing is not ALL about what you look like. the reason why it's important to have confidence when transitioning is because it allows you to be natural. many people can tell when someone is being a fake, and that's usually because they have low confidence so they try compensating for that by trying to be someone they are not. they say when you are beautiful from the inside it will reflect on the outside. confidence is a very powerful thing, and i think you are taking that too literally, ashley.
I can't agree more, I doubt it is just your dress and make up. It looked a cheap wig and your brows need tidied a bit but otherwise you would pass as female. Voice, mannerisms and posture cannot be guessed from a photo so work on those. Confidence and self belief, even if it is only on the surface, helps a lot too.
i think you look gorgeous! :)

Okay, honestly, I think most what made you not pass was the wig in a helloween context, and maybe, in the extreme, the fact that hormones haven't had their effects for long. I don't know about your voice or mannerism, but I think, over time, you will do fine.
If you want to stuff your bra so that it looks natural, here's a tip from a friend's friend who made drag queen shows for a living: use something filled with rice, the fake boobs will fall and behave naturally then. Unfortunately, I don't remember WHAT he filled with rice.

I believe you can use the feet of pantyhose for that. There are threads on here about how to create decent fake breasts to use until you have your own.

You look very passable to me Britney. My favorite pic is the one you took with your friend.

Thanks sis! <3
I think you are very beautiful.
I watched Murder on the Orient Express recently and you remind me of the actress Jacqueline Bisset, so I googled some pics of her when she was really young. I see a strong resemblance in many of her pics.

You remind me of the famous French actress Charlotte Gainsbourg:

another pic:(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.linternaute.com%2Fmusique%2Fdiaporama-image%2Fcomediennes-chanteuses%2Fimage%2Fcharlotte-gainsbourg.jpg&hash=d699be05124b1702eee00402962a437503d74156)
And, from your facial features, you also remind me of the singer Patti Smith, but much healthier and without long-term drug effects (sorry, another bad hair day pic, but it's difficult to find pics of her where she doesn't exactly look like a homeless junkie):(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Frockhall.com%2Fmedia%2Fassets%2Finductees%2Fdefault%2Fpatti-smith.jpg&hash=1242d6cfbb49e7b5f1a6bbe3bef789049fd95ca7)
Umm thanks? :S haha
Your hair is really good, you face in general, actually. You cute girl. :P
I don't know how you dress on normal days, maybe that has something to do with it? Cause you pass pretty well here, or maybe your voice, I've never heard it.
I should also point out a couple of other things. When I'm "dismantling" your face, I think I see specific features that might tip people off. The thing is, I wouldn't be looking at specific features like that unless you had asked me to. Your face is a face, not just an assortment of facial parts. When I look at the big picture, I see a girl. Woman. Well, girl, because you look very young. And I see a pretty face. Hormones will tip the balance for you even more; your skin will soften, your cheeks will round out a little, and whatever else happens--and these "improvements" will help to deemphasize other characteristics that you're less fond of.
I know a trans woman who is super attractive. She was talking about FFS one day, and I was ???. So she took her face apart for me, bit by bit. I never would have noticed if she hadn't said something; all I saw was a nice-looking woman. Now that I can "see" each feature separately, I can see why she wants surgery--I guess--but I cannot understand why she wants FFS before genital surgery. I was thinking that FFS would be her last step, if she still felt like it and could afford it.
What the heck, I still look in the mirror and think, "Do I look masculine enough? Do I look like a guy?" That's the main reason I want facial hair. Sometimes I hate being blond. >:(
Thanks Arch!! :D Made my day. haha. I've wanted to be pretty for so long and it feels really good to hear it. :)
And I agree, I was always puzzled as to why mtfs would get other surgeries before srs.

Well, unless you get intimate with someone, no one else ever see you down there, whereas everyone see your face. So that
is understandable even if that's not what I'll do myself. Although that might have something to do with my ability to reasonably pass already.
EDIT: And oh, you look all (very pretty!) girl to me. So it's was either someone outing you, or your voice / mannerism.
Since it was Halloween, people are going to assume things that they wouldn't normally and this will make it harder to pass. I think it's especially true if you are A) tall, or B) at a gay club.
Anyway, I think you look great in all your photos. I think your Ke$ha costume is awesome.

That does make sense I suppose. I guess the way I look at it, I don't care how I look I just want to be a woman physically. =/

That's true. I don't feel tall, I'm only 5 7. And it was at some girls house lol :P
I can understand why....
The first surgeries I did were a nose and trach shave.... this was because I was v.early thirties and needed to keep a job!
So if you intend to keep working through your transition....doing face work if you're on sales or face-ta-face pre the down below stuff males perfect sense to me....
And you cannot hide faces behind veils, well okay in the middle-east perhaps.... but women's working roles are even more limited there....lol
Hi Britney, I see a cute girl but the wig did have an issue, wrong color for you. Other wise I would say you are looking pretty good girl. I know there have been many post about mannerism, speech and how a woman is supposed to move and walk. Take some time and go to a mall and do some people watching. When you study how females move and how males move there is no way to come up with what a female movement should be or what a male movement should be because there are so many variations of male and female that it is extremely difficult to say you must walk this way or that way, stand this way or that. This also includes speech, really listen to how woman and men speak, many variations. If we where still living in the victorian age then it would be rather simple to distingish female and male speech and movement because these things were actually taught.
I have found that many girls simply try to hard to be girls and out themselves because it is over taught in the transexual world that woman are a certain way. Yes we need to take on more of the female role to pass but we have a great variation to work with which makes it quite easy. Stop trying to be a woman and just be the girl that you are. I have read so many sites that are said to teach you how to be a woman but in the real world I have never seen such a woman rather I see individuals with a great variation.
The most important thing I believe to pass as the real you is your energy. The energy we give off tells our story whether you want it to or not. I know who I am and that is the energy I Present to the world. The first week I went in public I had people questioning, is that a guy or a girl? That was with only wearing a womans shirt but I went out believing who I was with all my heart which allowed me to give off my real energy. I did not work at moving a certain way or speaking a certain way I just became the woman that was hidden. We are all idividuals but believing who you are and presenting that image to the world will get you what you want.
You look aswesome Britney!
Loving the outfit to :)
Thanks :)
Based on your photos, you pass with flying colors. You looks cute and 'girly'. What you can try is,
a) get some perfume or flowery/fruity hand creams. Also feminine smelling shampoo helps too. I find many people (men especially) relate the smell of a person to their gender. If you smell like aftershave and colon, you'll be seen as male. If you smell like flowers and shampoo, people more easily associate out with being female. I made the mistake one day of putting on some hand cream and ended up being hugged and in my opinion, harassed by a male friend of mine, ugh.
b) The voice. Nothing makes someone stop and look twice then the wrong voice coming out of someone. For me, I find it's the quickest way to know if the guy standing next to me is trans. Work on having a feminine voice and use it =) With how you look, a feminine voice will complete your overall look, I would think.
c) Act female. Cross your legs every now and then when your sitting. Don't burp, Just try to avoid overly manly type actions. This helps people go "Look at that cute girl" as opposed to "I'm confused..." lol
Thats my two cents =) Good luck, you look beautiful!

I already use perfume, I've been using is and lotion for years. And I've never used aftershave and I rarely almost never use mens shaving cream. I don't use a female voice in public only cuz my bestie tells me I don't need to, and I wasn't even trying to pass on Halloween anyways lol :P And I do act female haha. But thanks =3

Well, that was kind of my point. The gal in my community is so cute and feminine--everyone thinks so--yet she's incredibly insecure about her face. Until she told me she wanted FFS first, I didn't think she would ever get it, period.
Considering how harsh people can be when they DO clock a trans woman, though, I can completely understand that she would want FFS first, if only to feel safer and more secure--and more confident, since Americans in particular are really hung up on faces.
??? Britney............... I dunno. You say you didn't pass. I saw a pretty young woman , not a transwoman , a woman , period . I guess I'll log off an go make me a cup of coffee now . Ellen
Defo look great in pic two, a smile makes a big difference with your face :)
Aww thanks everyone! I feel so much more confident haha. I wonder what they woulda said if I had been like well I am a girl like hello! lol.
