Is it bad to smoke Cigarettes or weed while in estrogen Injections??
I know they cause blood clots but I barely smoke, just sometimes.
It's bad, period.
But smoking will inhibit your uptake of estrogen and give you poorer results.
Taking in the poisons from any smoke is not healthy. And stopping now with greatly improve your health. No I am not a radical ex-smoker, but I am an ex-smoker, 11 days clean now.
You are altering your body's chemistry with HRT, so why introduce something that is a really addictive drug and something that is even now altering your body in a way you really don't want.
Janet is absolutely right.
Smoking is bad. My sister, who I love dearly, has smoked since she was a young girl. She is 11 yrs older than I, but in bad health. She refuses to stop and it breaks my heart.
Janet congratulations. I wish you great success!!!
Hugs.
Mrs Erocse.
Stick with it, janet!!!
I've seen the ravages that smoking has had on my family firsthand. My grandma died of lung cancer. My mom and dad have all kinds of health issues related to smoking. It's a horrible habit.
You know you're in a trans forum when E stands from estrogen, and not a drug.
Yeah, smoking is bad when on hormone therapy, even a little bit of smoking. Do your best to quit.
I'm a smoker so I know how hard it is to quit. But remember only a doctor can tell you exactly of any extra implications it would have on yourself under different circumstances.
I know smoking is bad, but thats obvious people really don't need to be told - especially with the pictures on the packets!

What I meant by that was ask your doctor - never trust medical advice on an online forum!

Nikki is lying, my medical advice is TOTALLY sound. Now, you don't need two kidneys, give me one ;D
Trade you for a liver, really shouldn't have gone out last night - can't say no to someone's 21st birthday though :(!
For a trans person its exceptionally dangerous.
If you consider that a woman might be declined for the pill if she smokes. And what you taking is an extremely powerful form of the pill upto 4 times as powerful. Very risky.
I believe it was Jocelyn from our own forum who had a heart attack on her 20th birthday when she smoked on HRT.

Good point Pebbles. :)
Not to mention that smoking is expensive. Think of all the new shoes and outfits that can be bought with money saved. :)

You should see all the shoes and outfits I've bought since I quit ;)
When you are on HRT, it's like going through puberty. So smoking while on HRT is kind of like smoking if you are, say, 11 or 12. Your body is changing, you're very sensitive, etc.
Very VERY dangerous.
Try to be as healthy as you can when starting HRT, your body needs all the "rest" it can get (unhealthy stuff can "tire out" the body).

A friend of mine DIED because she was doing precisely that. She was injecting E and smoking.
She had a blood clot and died in her sleep just days after she had fought and won the right to go full time at her place of work.
Wow, that pretty much says it there. I'm taking Welbutrin right now to help w/ quitting and I'm still finding it hard. But that is why I'm quitting because I know of the increased risks while doing HRT. If I can quit from smoking a pack and a half a day, so can you!
Yeah, isn't it sad that I saw both my grandpa and recently, my uncle, die from smoking? My uncle was lying there in the hospital and he grabbed my coat and kept begging for a cigarrette. His eyes were really desperate, I almost wanted to sneak him one. PLEASE PEOPLE, don't die over something so easily preventable!!!!
Believe it or not I have found it is easy to quit smoking. Yes I am on Chantix, but that isn't what did it. Allen Carr's book "The easy way to quit smoking" did the trick.
Yeah Yeah I know. How can a book get you to stop smoking? Don't believe me. Go to the library and get the book. Read it and see for yourself. You don't even have to by it.
Today was 250 days post-cigs for me. That after smoking over 2 packs of Camels a day at the very end. Same as others have described, one after the other. While not wasting a single puff.
What a waste.
I feel it is worth saying that all the literature I have read about HRT and smoking talks about significantly increased risk of coronary heart disease and blood clots in relation to the number of pack years you have been a smoker...that is the number of years you have smoked a pack or more of cigarettes per day.
Now what i can't find out is how significant the risk is if you are a light to social smoker...Obviously there is a risk, but if you smoke a couple of cigarettes a week, being told that you will die is what I'd call overkill really.

You know, I didn't make a conscious choice to quit.
The start was the Morning Smoke going - on top of my allergies, it was a phlegm fest and I ended up coughing my guts out. Not worth it.
Then the evening smokes started to disappear, since my fiancé doesn't smoke and he would sometimes wrinkle his nose at me after I came inside reeking of burnt tobacco.
Then somehow I migrated to smoking only on Fridays when I was out drinking with my friends.
Then I stopped drinking and I stopped smoking entirely.
*High-fives Vexing*
Just bear in mind that it does matter how you stop as long as you do. Vexing stepped down, I am doing the Chantix, some do it the cold turkey way. But we all quit.
and I don't think anyone would say they wish they hadn't.

You quit when you're ready :) (if you're not ready, you do the half-assed attempts at quitting, then start again)
I was plenty ready and kinda only kept going because of the social smoking crowd at work.
