GREENFIELD, Calif. —

Greenfield is expected to appoint a new city manager on Tuesday who was fired as city manager in two Florida cities and spurred a national debate on transgender identity.

Susan Ashley Stanton, formerly named Steve Stanton, was the city manager of Largo, Fla., for 17 years until media outlets reported that she was going to undergo a sex change.

During Greenfield's City Council meeting on Tuesday night, council members are expected to appoint Stanton to the post and give her a city-owned house in Greenfield.

Greenfield Interim City Manager Brent Slama and Mayor John Huerta declined to comment on the city's decision to hire Stanton.
