When I first read this article, the line that really stood out was "But the operation essentially left me a lesbian." How.. horrible. *sigh*  I'm not sure what he expected. That he'd suddenly take a liking to men and still be safely straight, or that somehow.. he could still like women yet not be considered a lesbian? 

I wonder how much he was paid for his story? possibly a few thousand pounds? easily enough for a nice holiday.

The only serious question it made me raise, was for late transitioners who were satisfied with their lives as a crossdressing straight male until their 50s... what happens if they develop Alzheimer's and as a part of their dementia they start losing their memory from their latter part of their life? Could they reach a stage where they are aware enough that they know they are in a female body and life, but can't remember wanting it, and develop reverse-gender dysphoria? Missing their old life as a man? This wouldn't be an issue for transsexuals who wanted to transition but couldn't until late in life, only those who develop desire to transition late in life. I dunno.

That was 23 years ago, the UK NHS may have been more liberal with the diagnoses and treatment then.  I have seen older SRS transitioners.  The diagnoses and treatment of GID is still evolving. 
  I do agree with most thus far on his decision to transition.  He knew at the beginning of his treatment that the changes are permanent.  Some things will not return if he tries to detransition after SRS.  He will have to live with it.  The tackle will not function enough.  He will still be dissatisfied.

Good point. Sadly, as a user of and a former practitioner in the NHS, I can assure you the opposite is the case.

So we have someone who makes wrong decisions and refuses to accept responsibility and was involved with warplanes that's scary!

I know this is very cynical but. . . the first thing that went through my head reading this is that this pensioners retirement fund must be getting low.

She should know that at 75 surgeons will only perform operations if there is no other option, my nan was given many different treatments in an attempt to avoid operations for her medical problems because of the serious risk of anesthetic at that age.

What better way to get a compensation claim than to demand corrective surgery that you know will most likely be denied?

I transitioned later in life, after struggling for a couple of decades. I sometimes worry that I'll develop dementia and forget that I transitioned. No, that would be too horrible.

It's not anecdotal....I know about a hundred MTF IRL too and 4 (four) expressed regret, 2 (two) reverted back to living as men again and 6 (six) have commited suicide....over the course of 25 years.

BTW: this person is honest to express his regret publicly.

God knows how many post ops keep that to themselves because they know how many MTF will get mad at them and how many cispeople will laugh in their faces.
