Ditching the male look and switching to an androgyne presentation?

Ok, It looks like a good way to start.

So far up to now, I've been fashion blind. My only concern with clothing is that it covered me. Grab the first thing that worked and leave the store. Let people get clothing for me and stuck with it.

My wardrobe was limited to baggy straight wide jeans that I can't wear anymore after losing weight, lots of t-shirts with weird messages and three zip-hoodies. Several work shirts I rarely use. thousands of white socks and a few pairs of sport shoes. I couldn't take it anymore. No jewelry, or accesories of any kind. And after losing weight, everything is useless now.

I obviously want to change my image to something more neutral, since I can'g go crossdressing to work. I started with skinny unisex of female straight jeans, but I don't know what can follow.

Limitations I have:
- Hair: Although my head looks covered, It's short and I can't grow it until the avodart (generic) starts working (only 7 weeks ), since the hair next to the temples is short and non-growing for now. I'd better stick with hats...
- footwear: Due to rather bad feet until a solution is found, I'm stuck with heavy duty sport shoes with special orthotic inserts. Even shoes are a pain. I have a pair of red Chuck Taylors that can be fitted with inserts, but not a good idea for prolongued standing.
- Make up: Not a good skin, it won't even stick in place. Maybe a bit of base to hide shining things, but...

I'm rather skinny with 61 kg at 5,8", so pretty much S sized t-shirts are the only thing that fits me properly. Any recommendations on how I can adapt with raising a lot of concern at the office?

Thanks

Depends how much you want to push the envelope.

T shirts are adaptable and a scooped, v or cowl neck is best. An ordinary T shirt can be unisex if the image is an animal.

Maybe something like this would suit

When it comes to shoes I've always liked the Camper range

Ok, taking notes.

This is the closest I have to an "animal" on a t-shirt, but maybe it is a bit too nerd:

Girly button shirts, too?

And for the things that go over the shirt? It's starting to get cold, and the only thing I have is zip hoodies and zip heavy knit sweaters. I had though of turtleneck sweaters, since I have a gigantic neck...

Hair would be a good thing, but unaffordable for now. Would it be ok to go out with this?

Most like this (uh terrible photo) http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/j434/Alison_Pateru/gezicht2.jpg
With tight pants it looks girly, even when this is male one (male size M huge on me), everyone say I have girly shirt, when I was like that

Urgh, I have a phobia for those colors... All my work shirts are like sacks after the weight loss. After my new look I can go back to fitted button shirts, but I still don't have any clues on new trends.

Some day I'll have to pick a fashion magazine...

Sadly, even my first pair of skinny jeans looks oversized now. I have a pair of girly jeans, but they can only be fitted with hip padding, so not really a good idea. Waiting to receive straight ones...

That design (the pony one)  is certainly more on the female side of the spectrum

I was thinking more of something like this which wouldn't arouse any suspicions but I don't know if it's feminine enough for you. It's a good one to wear when you're trying to see if you pass without any cues.

I like that first Bonprix image, Medusa, may have to look into that

hm owl, it's not my cup of tea
but in my experiance, people determine if you are girl or boy not from face, but from overal outfit and movement
if you want to move to andro look, take it to fit body, take slim jeans, some accesories and be you  ;D

More like trying to remove male markers, and if possible put something girly but bellow the bar that sets off the social alarm of "What is this dude wearing?", for now. Not sure what you mean by passing. As female? I don't think I have a face that can be misgendered (manly and baaaaaad skin). Maybe with a peeling and a wig.

I'm getting quite tired of so many t-shirts, but they are the best thing for working. These are a few of what I have...

(Not being used anymore unless drunk). I entered a meeting with that one and I got called back with a "Where can I buy it?"

In girl size, so it does not go very well at the arms. The shoulders lenght is more or less the same as my unisex ones, but there is something weird.

Not bad...

I'm guessing that a girl top with a V or boat neck is easier to fit with big shoulders.

Accesories? Apart from always carrying a G-shock and that hat (see bellow), I have never carried anything. Maybe something on the left wrist? I don't like rings a lot, they make my fingers look shorter.

Mmmm, I need to work on movement. With the readjusted skeleton it is going to take me some time to learn how to move correctly. For the moment I just walk with my legs closer, as straight as I can and shoulders to the back. Trying to avoid slouching, more or less.

I don't really want to get into the whole passing/ not passing debate and I'm not giving fashion advice, but...

What I meant was that if you wear that (owl) top, you are giving the viewer no clues as to your gender at all. If they then address you as your chosen gender, then you know that you can pass (visually).

Many times people are looking for this affirmation and if you prejudge the issue by feminine/masculine clothes you don't really get useful feedback. If you can wear male clothes and still get maamed then fine, you have your answer.

Ah, ok.  Removing clues in what it comes to clothing, although we still would need to adress other visual clues, such as hair (I'd be good to start growing it, when the shedding stage ends) and movement. Nah, I would never pass with my face and no makeup, that's not possible for me. Just getting used to a more neutral style in the meantime that does not shout "MAN" in preparation for coming out. The idea is to modify my presentation to neutral, so that when I tell the truth to people, they don't say "You look too manly".

This is pretty much what I do. I started wearing women's pants about once a week, and slowly started adding to that. Now, even presenting "male" at work, I only wear women's clothes. People are used to it now and don't say anything about it.

Thanks. I need to find what can I wear in that style for the upper part of the body. It is getting quite cold in the office, and there must be other things than hoodies.

Stretch turtlenecks would be ok?

Turtle necks will work, and are pretty andro.  Another way to go is a light pull over sweater. You can find andro looking sweaters pretty easily.  I wear quite a few sweaters. They are all women's, but no one notices.  You could also wear a light weaght long sleeve shirt, and wear some thin thermals underneath. I do this a lot too. It allows me to still look good, and be warm at the same time.

I think it's basically hoodies, which can be quite feminine.

In the UK , where we know a thing or two about the cold, girls tend to layer up, wearing three or four tops one on top of the other.

Microfibre underwear I guess might be another option.

Yes, hoodies can be quite feminine.

I suggested sweaters, because if I remember correctly, the OP likes to wear clothes on the more, fancy style.

Here in Seattle, you can get away with wearing just about anything.  People pretty much dress for comfort, not style.

Apple Seed ... maybe my tumblr blog on androgynous fashion might help :)
http://clothesmakeyoufeelgood.tumblr.com

As for hair, there's plenty of more interesting male hair styles out there now that kind of use the shag look as a spring board. Something even slightly longer than a traditional male cut might be a good interim space to be in:

Of course with the hair you kind of have to go with a style that works with your face too but those are some ideas.

Thanks, I had been checking your blog already.

If only my hair would grow properly. I need to use my top center area to cover the sides, but... between the clean temples and the part that is not growing well until it recovers, I'm quite limited on the hairdos I can get.

On the clothing, I'm finding that sadly, it's easier said than done. Getting a new wardrobe is more expensive than I though, so I'm limiting myself to one piece of clothing per month.

And the last and final issue is... MY excess of self awareness, shyness and bosession with being observed limits me a lot on what I can wear or buy. I really need to develop decent social skills and confidence...
