MCVBAD COP, BAD COP
Honduran police officers stood by and watched last month as five assailants beat Josef Fabio Estrada (also known as Debora), a ->-bleeped-<- activist and sex worker, while she was working in the gay Comayagela district of the capital city, Tegucigalpa. According to Amnesty International USA, the police officers watched, laughed and offered encouragement to the attackers, shouting, "Kill the ->-bleeped-<-got, beat him!" Eventually, the police arrested Estrada after she defended herself with a broken bottle, while letting her attackers go free. According to local non-government organisations, some 200 LGBT people were murdered in Honduras between 1991 and 2003. Few of these killings have been officially registered as hate crimes; fewer still have been investigated or seen the perpetrators brought to justice.
