I know there are a lot of ways to make these, but I've not seen this way before.  I've only used it once but it worked really well -- no leaks first time -- but I did take my trousers off just encase.  I'll try it clothed soon.

This is a direct copy from the instructions I posted on tumblr so it's worded a little odd but it should still make sense.  I don't know why I get patronising when I'm on tumblr, it just happens.  I was lazy so I copied the whole thing, feel free to skip the first part.

"A lot of people make STPs out of medicine spoons, but I've never come across one of these in the UK.  They're probably out there, but I've never seen one that looks the same as the ones US people seem to have readily available.  So I looked for other alternatives.  I came across a method of using a coat hanger the other day, but I don't know whether it's because I can't control the flow very well or because it's rubbish but I managed to piss down myself the two times I used it (ha, TMI).  Today though I managed to get hold of something else, and although I've never seen anyone else use it I felt like it might work.

1.)Get a bottle of Flash All-Purpose Cleaner.  Or another bottle that has a handle the same shape.  Flash costs around £2-3 from Tescos depending on what scent you want.  Obviously for this it doesn't matter, but you might as well use the contents up if you're going to buy it.  The important part is the shape of the handle.

2.)Cut the handle off the bottle carefully.  It's best to leave more than you think you'll need — I didn't really think about that when I started and would have made it better if I had — as you can always cut it down later.  I used a  sharp penknife to start it off and then scissors, but YMMV with different bottles and thicknesses of plastic.  The Flash bottle wasn't hard to cut at all though.

3.) Trim down the plastic into the shape you want.  Look at factory manufactured STPs if you're stuck.  In the photograph I tried to show what mine looks like.

4.)Smooth down the edges using sandpaper/glasspaper or a lighter.  If you're going to use a lighter test the melting point of your plastic on a scrap piece first and remember that it's going to get very hot and if it starts to burn it'll give off toxic fumes.  Cheap lighters and Clippers get very hot as well (trust me I know, my thumb still hasn't forgiven me!) and don't like being lit for extended periods of time.  The plastic on Flash bottles goes see-through when it gets malleable and doesn't take more than a lick of flame.
Practice.  If it doesn't work out try using a different shaped bottle.  You can reshape it a little by melting it as well.  And don't expect it to work perfect first time, try in the bath or shower!

This does work.  Trust me.

If you want to know anything else or have more photos or anything just ask.  I can show you how to make an STP out of a coat hanger as well, although that didn't work for me.  That's in more of a P-Style style though."

I'm also from the UK.. this is a really interesting method I haven't seen before. Might try it when I get one of those bottles empty.

I've been looking into DIY STPs as well and what looks the most promising atm is to mould the STP using a substance called 'polymorph plastic' that I bought off ebay for like 3 pounds.. a kind of thermal mouldable plastic that I think can be customised to personal anatomy even better and be considerably smaller as well. shows how it can be moulded.. I'm thinking of using a pen as the inner core, although not sure if that's able to cope with the flow rate. I'll report back when I get round to doing it :)

I don't know whether a pen would be enough to cope with the flow.  Heh, I'd certainly not want to trust something that thin when I was desperate.  I tried this method with a the handle of a milk bottle and that worked, apart from they don't have the rectangular shape at the top so making something to pee into involved trying to tape parts of it up and it started leaking through there.  The actual tube part of that was wide enough if i remember correctly, so something that thickness would probably be good enough to use, maybe a thicker pen or something (I'm imagining you using a biro for some reason).

I'd be intrigued to try this, or at least get some to pay with, and although it's only £3 I don't think I should spend any money for a while after writing off a moped today...  Let me know how it goes though.
