Two women-only rooming houses in St Kilda have been granted the right to refuse access to transsexual tenants.

Hanover Welfare Services, who run the two facilities, was recently awarded an exemption from anti-discrimination laws at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribual (VCAT). The Port Phillip-based welfare group petitioned VCAT for the exception from anti-discrimination laws following an incident where a pre-operative trans woman accommodated at one of their women-only houses, disturbed other residents by walking through the housing facility naked, displaying her male genitalia.
