In the last three months of searching forums, blogs, and trans rights related sites, i have realized how little is actually shared regarding what insurance companies actually support our status, and even less on which ones are willing to actually help us foot the bill when it comes to medical expenses.  With that in mind, I wanted to make a new post and see if any others are willing to share information on companies whom we all may benefit from utilizing and thus, supporting.

If you have found a supportive company (insurance, not job, though this could be useful as well.) whom you are willing to share the name of or perhaps some specific statements showing support, please post that here.

I hope this does not violate any policies here on the site, but I think that this is something which could benefit a lot of our community to actually share.


I am currently a member of my ex's policy, it is a work provided plan through Beech Street, which has "Sex Change" exclusion policies which are a harsh contrast for what they are willing to provide to anyone who is Cis-Gender. 

I hope to find a better provider the next time around so that I will not be filing "depression" or "Hormonal Imbalance" claims...

I too would be interested. What I have run into as a single insured is they "get weird" when they find out I am trans and the rate quotes I get are obscenely high. They claim it's because I have a 'pre-existing mental condition'. Plus being on E + spiro etc probably doesn't help. Hopefully that will all change soon but would love to find a company that welcomes TG patients even if they exclude things like gender therapy, HRT and SRS from their coverage.

BTW I live in the USA and am retired so have no coverage from work.

Remember it varies from country to country as well. I'm insured through HCF in Australia and they refuse to cover hormone treatment as it is "customarily prescribed for contraception, as reproductive medicine or for performance enhancement." Not too sure where I am on the scale!!

I'm in the process of checking for what surgery they will cover.

I guess we should also list where we are (nation at least) USA here, NV.

It would also be useful to list what they will cover for OS work. Many girls go to Thailand, if the operation is covered by insurance is it covered OS? Makes a big difference!

HRT meds are on the PBS, why do you need insurance to cover it?

PBS covers part but not all,  It was suggested by my gynae to see if the insurance would cover the rest. The total was $120 which covered the implant and 'surgery' PBS covered about half I was told to try my health fund for the rest. I may try and get the bill split for the implant and then for the procedure. Have you had success on that?

There are semantics with the health funds, and with the PBS.
