Provide coverage for sex reassignment procedures for transgender Americans.

Extend health coverage to include sex reassignment surgical procedures and hormone treatments for all transgender Americans.

it's disappointing to see that in the last month, there are only 3225 people willing to sign this petition out of the 25000 needed by next week for it to move on.

Most people think that GRS is an elective cosmetic procedure like a facelift or a nose job.  Nothing like the ruptured appendix or the bad gall bladder needing removed.  This petition will probably not proceed further.  Even though there are some medical plans that will fund GRS, most of those are on company plans with the eligibility being in the upper management in that company.

That is the first petition I have ever signed. Let's hope my one little vote actually helps.

If GRS is cosmetic, then so should be a C-Section, as both could be argued for the sake of convenience to the individual being operated on.

In other words, GRS should be fully treated as medically necessary... most will go for it, some will opt out and stay "au natural," but for a few of us there's no other way it has to happen.

I signed it when it first came out.  But I am afraid that it will take a national health care system like the rest of the world has.

I never even heard of it until it was posted by a few friends on facebook.  Someone may still look and respond to it like other petitions that didn't make it past 10000 signatures... but I think that it should have been more in-depth and formalized like a legal document that will explain why this is so important to us for someone that isn't directly connected to the trans community rather than bluntly thrown up as a short statement.

signed but nothing is going to come from it unless someone decides to make 18k+ fake accounts and sign it.

I just signed the petition, but I do agree with both Jolene's post above and veritatemfurto's.

It needs to be formalized, and educate the reader as much as possible in the shortest amount of time.

Key words that make the reader want to question this disparity, that make them want to think.

Some talking points for the new one:

We are born this way.
We pay taxes that fund healthcare just like everyone else.
Our unemployment rate is forty percent or greater, limiting our access to employer plans and resources of our own to spend.

Granted these are just raw ideas and would probably be more effective if formulated into questions.

I think we should start a new one eventually, sourced from the community versus a single plea.
This forum (or others) would potentially serve as a venue for brainstorming.  Just a thought.
