Abigael

Hello!

I'm Abigael (my birth name is Bryan). For the past few years I have been wondering why I wasn't a woman, because I have always wanted to be one. So tomorrow I'm seeing a gender therapist and I was hoping some of you can give me some advise going in?

What should I expect? I know who I am and I want to be that person. I came out to my parents, and they were supportive of me being "gay" (I'm actually bisexual), but they shut the door on me changing "who I am". Knowing I was hurting them (and me being the compassionate person I am) I told them that I was just confused, and lied so I wouldn't hurt them anymore. I feel terrible about it, but my father told me when he's dead then I can do whatever I want, but while he and my mother are still breathing then it won't happen. So now I am choosing to go through with it and live my life without my parents.

I love them to death but I can't change who I am. If they can't accept me after all of these years, then so be it.

Anyways! What can a 24 1/2 year old expect from HRT? I'm assuming I won't start it tomorrow because I think I have to live as a woman for an entire year? Or am I wrong?

Thank you!

Hi Abigael, :icon_wave:

Welcome to our little family. Over 9001 strong. That would be one heck of a family reunion.

Feel free to post your successes/failures, Hopes/dreams.  Ask questions and seek answers. Give and receive advice.

But remember we are family here, your family now. And it is always nice to have another sister.

Hi Abigael,

A big Aussie welcome to Susan's family. It's good of you to drop in and say "Hi". Hope you like it here, and you stay for a while.

There is a mountain of information, resources and friendship waiting for you here, you just need to jump in start talking and ask any question you like. You're quite safe here and we are very accepting.

In answer to your two questions, your therapy session tomorrow will probably be no more than a meet and greet session. Your therapist will just want to get some general thoughts and ideas on how you work and feel before they get into the deep stuff. Sort of ice breaker session, where you both have the opportunity to weigh each other up. Just relax and be open and honest about your feelings and everything will be OK.

Not knowing where you are, you really shouldn't have to be full time for ANY period of time before HRT. If your therapist demands that, find another, immediately. As to what to expect, that's a hard one. We are all so individual, and depending on the particular drugs he prescribes will vary from person to person. However, you should experience some breast growth, fat redistribution, change in body hair growth and size, and most undocumented aspect, psychological changes to the way you think and feel. That is just some of the major things you should experience.

Looking forward to hearing more of your story in time to come, but in the meantime, be safe, well and happy.

Lotsa huggs
Catherine

Hello again!

Thank you all who wished me a welcome. My first session went great! I opened up about my feelings and talked about everything I could think of. My therapist and I got along really well, and I'm happy to have her in my life now. I really would like to get started on HRT as soon as I can, but I've waited so long already I think I can wait a little longer. I'm ready to be the woman I know I am.

Thanks again, and I can't wait to talk with a lot of you! Please feel free to PM me any information or stories about transitioning. I love to read, and I'm a great listener (reader in this case  ;D)
