I just wanted to say that for the first time in over a year I have all my body hair gone and I feel amazing.  Just thought I would share that :)

Through HRT, or from epilating / shaving?

Sorry, Through Shaving. I wish it was through HRT.  I was on HRT briefly in the past but stopped.  Starting soon but just looking for those little victories!

Oh, ok :)

Well it's nice to have a hairless body then, huh?!

Shaving one's whole body can be tedious, depending on how much you have to get rid of. I have a bit too much area to cover, myself, so I've just accustomed myself to it, though, one special day, I very well may shave everything to know what it's like to be hairless.

I find the shaved feeling to be uncomfortable, mostly, because of how sensitive the skin gets. The exception, of course, would be my face... so perhaps if I do try to get hairless sometime, I'll go the waxing route, to avoid all the irritation and some of the sensitivity.

It's winter, and this hair helps to keep me warm, so maybe I'll put it off for the spring or summer.

Oh, and HRT doesn't always (rarely if ever, according to my doctor) reduce body hair significantly. It does stop it from getting worse, though, and I'm thankful for that much.

I need to talk to a doctor or dermatologist or SOMETHING about my skin. My legs get heavily irritated by shaving no matter what I do.

Likewise.

Could be dust, dryness, and an assortment of other treats and goodies, but in any case, it makes shaving one's legs impossible without putting one's sanity at risk.

I must be one of the lucky ones then. The past month I've started really losing lots of coarse hair over my body. I don't even need to shave my arms anymore and the hair on my chest / torso is getting much finer, less dense, and growing much slower.

My body hair has all but disappeared since HRT. Although I really didn't have much to begin with in the first place. It's awesome to only have to shave my legs once a week or so.

I've read multiple pamphlets on mtf hrt. And body hair reduction is most definitely one of the effects. The only thing is that it takes about 6 months to 1 year to see any large effect.

So, no it isn't just a myth; your doc just doesn't know very much about hrt OR doesn't want to guarantee that you will have reduced body hair. Probably the latter...

I get ingrown hairs over most of my body so this is a big victory.  My hope is that when I start HRT that I my hairs do get finer so that it is not as big of an effort.

I've been on HRT for just about six months and I have notice a decrease in the thickness of the body hair, starting on my back and then other areas.. granted it's no where near where I'd like it to be, but I'm just gonna give it more time before electro or laser, granted it has REALLY slowed on my legs and has also been changing to blonde on my arms, now I do still shave it all off every few days but it has begun to stay away longer. Also the rate of ingown hairs has gone down a huge amount!

Never really had any in the first place, but have lost even most of my arm hair now.
Thank god for small favors!

You said it, Siobhan!  Thank the Gods!

Being of Native American descent, I was already nearly hairless, body and face, before transition.  Now 14 years post transition, other than a head of full, thick black and gray hair, my body really is hairless as a Sphynx cat.

What a long, strange trip it's been!
