Ok this might to be stupid, but here goes. I got one of those beanie type winter caps and it I am getting ma'amed more than ever. I tried on a cap with a bill that has ear flaps-- nope. At least the ones I tried, make my head look to wide. So any ideas here?

Usually winter hats aren't necessarily a fashion statement ... they're for a purpose, to keep your head warm! And yes that's me in my hat and I look like a dork in it (although I often look more male in hats for some reason so I can't complain) but it keeps me warm. And I really do hate winter.

Maybe the beanie is just accentuating your face too much? I would think something with flaps would help camouflage your face more or something?

How do you wear your beanie? I notice that women tend to wear beanies pushed up on their head more, exposing more of their forehead, while men wear them almost touching their eyebrows.

Not a hipster beanie (had to look this one up). I'll take a look at where I wear it, as I am guessing I do push it back.

I doubt you've seen me. I posted a long time ago in the "you look bada**" thread. I don't pass at all, but I do confuse people sometimes which is what I hope for at this point. I am pre-medical transition.

Thanks for the suggestions (tongue in cheek?) Nygeel. I'll take the Coonskin cap under advisement. This was popular when I was a kid. I'm sure I had one. The third one was what I tried, as it had a bill. Makes my head look too round, but I have not given up on this one.

I took the coat out (which is dirty) for the Transgender Day of Remembrance thing last night, which was all outside. I did get correctly gendered going out with my order when I stopped for food. So maybe there is help wiht winter clothes.

I am not sure but my guess would be something with hats being "fabelous" and the genderole is that woman usunally is more fashionable than men.

it could sure also be something with your face struckture or body. we all got diffrent shapes and looks, so I belive passing is about to show those things who looks manly and hade more of those who dosent. so if you got a very maculine face you should try to show it off more and if you dont then you should show off your musular arms insteed.

I have quite an androgynous face, and weakling arms. I am workign out and not developing muscle. I am hoping T will help.

it could be that. I have a very femenine face and i really hate it.
I do pass because of my voice, extra muscle and the fact I have no boobs..
(for like a skinny little femenine guy) But I must always be carefull for everything on my head. for my haircuts to hats and so.

if im wearing them wrong or get a wrong haircut I will either not pass or I will turn 4 years younger which suchs.

I also am really aware of my head, hair and so forth. Don't quite have the haircut I want (as I am not out at work), but it is a male haircut. I got a hat (for warmer weather) that I like a lot. Seems to make me feel more male, so I don't like wearing something that makes me look more female. OTOH, I'm cold blooded.

Funny but before I knew I was trans, I didn't care what I wore or what my hair looked like and hated haircuts. Now I call it "haircut therapy".

Nah, I really don't wear hats much, would much rather just pull up a hood. When it comes to hats, I'd rather have something that would seem not typical for a woman to wear.

I don't think beanies pushed back are strictly feminine and/or female. I see a lot of young hipster-esque people both male and female do it. It may not look too great after a certain age, but I wouldn't call female on it.

Darren, Nah not female or male really-- it's all gender expression anyway. But there are ways to kind of accentuate your features or whatever to make you look a little more one or the other.


Ok guys-- here's a different kind of question-- what's a store with a lot of different hats. I don't know we have a Burlington Coat Factory-- never been.

You could get a carharrt beanie or one that looks more like something a trade worker/outdoorsman would wear.

I found a wool gatsby or newsboy or eight panel hat--except in a sort of poofy style. I used to think of them as "gentlemen's caps". I have almost never seen women wear them. I got a wool tweed one, which is sort of age appropriate. They don't keep the ears warm, but should be good on otherwise cool days.

I'm a hoodie fiend so I usually wear a flex fit cap (it holds in some heat) and if it's extra chilly just pull up the hood over it.

You're looking for places to buy hats? look on Amazon and Ebay. That is where I find most of my things and they're nicer/cheaper than the store.

Well funny thing as I think my hat is very important. I feel that it makes me look a lot more male. I had someone call it my "gateway drug" to trans.
I only wore hats when hiking before.

Most of the hats just make me look androgynous. I used to like that idea, and now I don't.

I don't know how it works where you are, but here a beanie in football club colours would work okay.
Ice Hockey would shout masculinity pretty loudly I would think.

I'm not sure of your physical attributes but by chance are you on the smaller side? If so, maybe trying a fitted cap would help as regular sized hats may be too large and draw attention to the size of your head. It might be a dumb suggestion..I dunno, but I have noticed cis men's heads are usually on the saint bernard size while cis women's heads would be chihuahua size in comparison. Strange analogy but I'm sure you get what I'm saying.

I think you are actually on target. They either need to be fitted and I wear a small and not all smalls are equal. The dog analogy was pretty funny, something I might say actually.
