Beginner's STP device

My curiosity has been increasing lately about STP devices. In all of my years living full time I have never bought one but I want to use a urinal when I'm in public. Three things I am looking for:

*Low Price: Starting out I really don't want to spend more than $25 on something in case it's not for me.

*Portability: Not a chore carrying it in my pants or pocket.

*Fool Proof: Don't want to have it overflow and want something not too hard to situate under my urethra.

I really don't care about the aesthetics of my first STP. It's really more of a trial basis and getting comfortable with the functions of using one.

I do have one more question. How exactly do you guys keep them clean when you use one and are out all day? I figure in a stall it's easy enough to wipe out most of it with toilet paper but if you use a urinal what then? Are they designed where there isn't much residue left in them?

Ok, just had a thought. Now I can't use this anywhere at home because of the size of the apparatus, but it is good practice I suppose. Kinda a prequel to a medicine spoon (the next endeavor, lol). I'm sitting here making an STP out of a turkey baster (waits for laughing to die down to continue). Yeah, it IS funny. I know. I'm cutting a good size hole in the bulb and going to go try it out.

I'm not sure whether or not you get bottles like these in the states, but this is how I made my STP.

It's pretty fool proof as long as you angle it down, I leaked once but I was just going too fast because it was the morning and I'd drunk loads the night before.

Mission Aborted! LOL

In theory it could work with practice I suppose.

The ball is just too large to get in that area. The ball dips down collecting the urine so it is doesn't release everything. Of course the ball is flimsy so one small shift or squeeze and you've pissed all over the place.

Yeah, there was a clean up on aisle 6. I had to shower and there is a rug in the washer.:embarrassed:

STP Rule #1: Test it in the shower!

A lot of STPs are made of liquid-repellant material so the urine just dribbles right off it. Of course it's never completely clean if you just sick it back in your pants at a urinal but for me it's never an issue or too gross. If you have one that isn't a packer like mine are, like a whiz-freedom or just a medicine spoon, you can discreetly wash them at the sink if you're careful...Most people aren't going to know what it is even if they do see it.

I found using it in the shower more disgusting than just wearing trousers that are going to go in the wash anyway because of how it splashes on the bottom and sprays all up your legs and everywhere.  I suppose that it doesn't matter because you're going to wash anyway, but I didn't like it at all.

You can make your own STP with a mr limpy, a medicine spoon and some tubing for under $20. I'm not very handy, though. You can try a site like FTM depot or something. They're cheaper then some of the bigger shops. I'm assuming you're in the US.

Ok, I had an almost empty Old Spice shower gel bottle so I cleaned it out and went to make a make shift STP (like in the thread Devlyn Marie shared). Broke my Emril kitchen shears doing that, lol.

Got pissed off and pissed on in one day...what gives?

Sooo went looking around and ended up ordering a khaki colored "GoGirl" (crap name but hopefully a good product) for $10.

Though I first found out about STP from girls. They are really big in the hiking and backpacking world. Can't be too careful just where you sit. And sitting is nasty anyways. I used to use a automatic transmission fluid funnel. Can't say it is all that portable (I stuck it in my backpack). But it is totally completely fool-proof. I have heard the same re: p-style.
Not so portable.

BTW, I did like this whole STP thing a lot better than the girls did. Hmm...

if you want something that definitely won't fail. Ever. go with the pstyle. It won't pass at a urinal, and can be a pain to carry with you unless you wear cargo pants/something with large pockets or carry a bag with you but you wont piss on yourself unless youre trying to.
If that doesn't work, I'd suggest practicing with a medicine spoon until you can use one. I've mastered it but i know a lot of people have trouble with it.

Got my khaki gogirl (that name again, smh) in the mail today. Just tried it in the shower since I wasn't sure how it was going to "flow". I am happy to say it worked perfectly! Not a drop did I dribble, lol. My gf says I'm "cute" because I'm so happy to stand and pee.

Little does she know this is a milestone. I was always afraid to try a STP but now I'm hooked. Going to be practicing with clothes on tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be using urinals for the first time on my road trip to the hospital next week.  ;D

Hey good luck Simon (and others). Maybe I should try the dubiously named device (I'm sure they had no idea as I am guessing they think it is used for natal women who are camping and so on. I am not having much luck with these things. Perhaps I should first try the p-style since I have heard it is fool proof. No comments on this fool proof thing. :D

The pstyle is fool proof. Half asleep, doped up on pain meds after surgery, doped up on... other things, the pstyle hasn't failed me since I pulled it out of the box. I've never heard of anyone having trouble with it. If the size and innability to use it at a urinal don't bother you, there's no reason why not to get it.

I made something which looks pretty much like the p-style and couldn't get it to work for the life of me.  Maybe a proper one would work though.

That's a great endorsement!! Going to "go" for it. LOL
