I've pretty recently (within the last two weeks) had a serious internal upheaval in regards to my gender identity. I've always been at odds with my gender identity, but I'm feeling like I'm actually getting somewhere with all the introspection about this. This seems like it's the most active forum for trans-related postings, and after lurking for a bit, I figured I might as well register!

I'm 19 and female bodied, but I am like 95% sure I actually identify as male. I have my first counseling appointment through my university health services on Wednesday, and I'm so excited about trying to explore this. I'm not going say my birth name since I feel like this forum can be one place where people just know me as the person that I'm currently in the process of discovering and getting to know. Eventually I'll put a name out here. For now, I'm sleepwalker, named after one of my favorite Cat Power songs.

Sleepwalker, welcome.
I'm glad you've already made an appointment, just talking about what your feeling with a professional is a big step in the right direction.  This online community will also be helpful & I hope you get the answers to any questions you may have.  We're all here for you:)

Thanks everyone! You're all so welcoming! I've been to other forums for various things and most of the time the Introduction section is an unread wasteland. I have a feeling I'll be coming here to post quite often!!! :D

Welcome to the site, hon. :)

Birth names can be odd things. I associate mine to being little more than the interval between being born and finding my real name, whereby the rather unwieldy "Oi, you! Yes you! You over there! HEY!! I'm talking to you!" could be avoided for the sake of convenience... and saving space on envelopes.

*hugs* You are who you are. Best wishes for your appointment, I hope you get everything you want from it.

Above all... remember: you are beautiful, you are valuable, and you have a shining spark of magnificence within you. Don't let anyone take that from you. Embrace who you are. <3

Hi there, sleepwalker!  I'm in southern California.  I applaud your decision to discuss issues with a campus therapist.  I did a similar thing 35 years ... a while back.

Hi sleepwalker,

A big Aussie welcome to Susan's family. It's good of you to drop in and say "Hi". Hope you like it here, and you stay for a while.

There is a mountain of information, resources and friendship waiting for you here, you just need to jump in start talking and ask any question you like. You're quite safe here and we are very accepting.

I'm really pleased you have had such a good start to your experience, over the past fortnight. Pleased to you have managed to hook up with a therapist. A good one should be able to guide you successfully through this labyrinth.

Names, at this point in time are just a label. After 15 posts you can change your name to the Queen of Sheba if you like, or change it to Catherine Sarah. But you'll have to look like me to pull that one off.      ;D       I wish you continued success in your journey. Make sure you let us know how you are coping.

Looking forward to hearing more of your story in time to come, but in the meantime, be safe, well and happy.

Lotsa huggs
Catherine
