Conservative Activists Condemn APA for Declassifying Transgender Identity as a Mental Disorder

Janet Mefferd hosted Peter LaBarbera of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality yesterday on her radio show to criticize the American Psychiatric Association for its decision to remove "gender identity disorder" from their manual on mental health. Mefferd even wondered if the APA's reasoning behind the move might "give pedophiles moral cover."

According to LaBarbera, "these professional bodies have all been infiltrated by LGBT activists" and have "politicized" science. After lamenting that now schools will have to provide protections for transgender students, he said that sex reassignment surgeries should be made illegal.

    One of the things they're going to do, we all know it, these professional bodies have all been infiltrated by LGBT activists, homosexuals, bisexuals, transgenders, and they are going to set down these guidelines for these poor children who we've seen you know with 'the little Johnny wants to go to second grade in a dress,' and people who still have common sense in our society say that's ridiculous, that's preposterous, that has an effect on all the other kids in school, but we're going to get these guidelines that say 'go with that.'

I'm really curious about Mefferd's logic behind her comment that this might "give pedophiles moral cover." I'd really like to know what ->-bleeped-<- has to do with pedophilia. I'd really like to know what ->-bleeped-<- has to do with morality. I'd really like to know why little boys shouldn't be allowed to go to school dressed as girls. I'd really like to know why that would have such a horrible impact on the other students. I wonder what's so awful about SRS that it should be made illegal.

Why haven't these people considered that maybe homosexuality is God's plan to curb overpopulation in the future? If homosexuality helps control the birthrate and thereby ensure that we don't exhaust our natural resources, then we should have more of it, not less. There are already way more children who are waiting to be adopted than there are eligible parents to adopt them. If society can have more homosexual couples who can and want to adopt children, then two birds would be killed with one stone.

I think it's just a way to dehumanize trans people by associating with a group that is generally regarded as the worst of society. It's also is a failure of critical thinking because the sex offender will seek to gain the victim's trust through their position (teaching or clergy as examples) whereas the (average) trans person will willingly subject themselves to the trust of mental health and physicians for something that doesn't harm anyone (although if the trans person has a partner, his/her "transition" is another topic on itself).

In a way it goes back to the bathroom "debate," in where the most simple answer is likely the most accurate (in that criminals don't care about placards placed outside restrooms when they commit crimes).

It's a sad commentary that groups of people are marginalized simply for being different. 
Janet Mefferd should know that the vast majority of pedophiles are hetero and, in many cases,
are known by the individual.

Homosexuals make up a very small portion of society, not enough to curb overpopulation. One woman can make any number of children unless her body gives out. Natures way of controlling overpopulation already exists, it's called war and disease.

It gives him freedom to speak his mind which just happens to be full of judgement and sin.

"Politicizing" science? Hmm... Science... facts... reality... Does this mean we have reality warping powers? Cool!

As I read this thread, I am disgusted by how the far right or any person or group of people are so willing to marginalize others at no expense to themselves and at great expense to those who are already vulnerable to some extent. We trans folk face the worst society has to throw at us, and transition is hard enough with being likened to "pedophilia" and other disgusting things that are not even remotely related to us.

I listened to the clips and want to vomit, please excuse me while I run to the bathroom. 

I use people like this as a guide. When they jump all over something like this, it just proves to me whatever they are against was a move in the right direction
