I was reading my local paper this morning and nearly fell off my chair when I recognised the hero in the photo published with this article.  Alex Haney was one of the participants in Sherbourne Health Centre's fall Gender Journeys program which I also attended.  This past Wednesday was the last session.  My mother had asked me if there had been any particular people in the group who were my favourites and why.  I had specifically mentioned Alex because I found him to be a polite, genuine and humble character among other things.  He was caring and observant enough to approach me when I was too shy to introduce myself first during a 'pick-a-partner' exercise and made me feel welcome and so much better about being a part of the group.  He transgender status and good character are mentioned in the article and I can assure you that he is exactly as described.  I feel truly honoured to have made his acquaintance.

Thanks, too, for that post!  That action from one of us prevented another Columbine!    :o

BTW: I happen to like Sheriff Joe Arpiao.
