Well I go to the gym pretty often, mainly to swim. Since I'm starting HRT soon what should i do about locker rooms as my body starts developing. I know it sounds silly but I'm at a bit of a loss of what to do other than when I feel I'm ready to use the womens locker room, It's also worth noting that all the lifeguards know me.

That's something I never would have considered and I don't have an answer either. I know if it were me, I would probably avoid the locker rooms, but I'm not sure if that's really a possibility with swimming.

I don't use gyms. I only went once to see if I passed with my excessively made over look.

Swim at the beach? I live about 4 miles from one, so I just bike there sometimes and swim, even in 30 degree temperature. Then again, I'm nuts.  :P

Fortunately i live in New York where people are either supportive or don't care plus the gym, which is in a college is both the only one i can afford and is very lgbt friendly. The only thing I can think of is asking the head lifeguard of the gyms policies.

As much as i love the beach id die! lmao. to be honest my biggest worry is changing, hiding the boys in a bathing suit, the rish doesnt sound fun, guess id have to use tape or something when i go.

If you don't want to change gyms, could you swim with a t-shirt? If someone asks why, consider telling them the truth, either in part or full. "I'm taking medication that requires me to wear a shirt" is 100% true and reveals nothing embarrassing.

You could also tell the the whole truth - being transgender is not shameful.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

I don't mind telling people and wearing a womans bathing suit, its that I'm nervous about changing in a womans locker room while having boy parts. Also the risk of accidental exposure too has me nerous and I don't want to stop swimming!

Hey julia,

usually there are stalls in the locker room for using the bathroom. You could just step in there to change your bathing suit.

Well it takes a little while for the body changes to be obvious.  You can get a letter from your therapist/whatever saying to are TG and being treated etc, just to show you are legit and not some perv, and then approach management. They should easily deal with it after all if they cannot deal with it in NY  how in baloney will they deal with it anywhere else in the world.

Thanks for the advice, Im lucky the college is very lgbt friendly so it shouldnt be too much of a problem, just nervous about the future locker room change. Funny how such basic things can be so nerve wracking at times and I know once I get the surgery all those fears will subside
