Just asking of those who have changed their names officially, how long did it take before you did? Looking for a bit of advice here.. want rid of my name asap especially since i'll be starting college in august.. and do you think its wise to just now. or to wait?

If you want it changed by August I would start now.
It can take about a month to process some places, some places it takes less time.

I planned for full time in September 05 so, not knowing how long the name change would take, I applied in April. It arrived almost instantly, so I just didn't change the name on my ID until September even though my name had legally changed.

I was travelling to the US in August, and I didn't want a mixed bag of ID. That's why I waited to change it till I got back.

You might find "Were you passable when you changed your name?" of interest ;)

It depends on where you live. It took me a few weeks to get the name change, and then a few more to re-order all of my ID.

It's so very hard to choose one name, if they feel like home, go for it.

Yeah, i've done nothing but reasearch and i found it so incredibly hard to go 'is that me?' 'no.. its not..' and after arguing with myself for weeks i came to my conclusion and for some reason i feel so much better now that i have. more defined as a person.. its weird

Sometimes a name's called a handle - i suppose it's a good term, helps you grasp whatever it is you're trying to describe.

okay so i have a new question which i was hoping some (hopefully UK) people would answer - what happens with regards to my name on my qualifications certificate? is it possible to get another one?
