A Twitter message about spitting led Towson lawyer and lesbian advocate Cathy Brennan to file for a peace order against a transgender advocate.

Phylicia Sampson, a 28-year-old Baltimore resident, and Brennan, 42, were engaged in a heated debate on the social media site when Sampson wrote that she wanted to spit in Brennan's face.

[...]

She runs a controversial blog where she expresses her viewpoints.

Brennan said she met Sampson, a graduate student, through mutual friends in fall 2011, and had invited her into her home on several occassions.

"At some point, we came to a fork in the road because she believes transwomen are women," she said.

It's futile to argue with idiots...or with people who hold idiotic views.

And, there are better battlegrounds than Twitter (or any social media site).
...I think for most of us it is a futile effort to try and put this genie back in the bottle once she has tasted freedom...

At what point are they going to just ignore that woman and stop giving her the attention she craves?
"For transpeople, using the right pronoun is NOT simply a 'political correctness' issue. It's core to the entire struggle transpeople go through. Using the wrong pronoun means 'I don't recognize you as who you are.' It means 'I think you're confused, delusional, or mentally I'll.'. It means 'you're not important enough for me to acknowledge your struggle.'"

Who need enemies when you can have trans-hating "allies" like Cathy Brennan?

For the most part I feel like gay and lesbian issues do affect us as well, but I'm tired of  GLB community treating T as the little sister Mom told them to bring along with them.

wow i did not even know about this woman's tirade of hate until today, did not even know who she was. I will be sure to steer clear of her.

I found a few other radical feminists who hate transgender folk as well

Don't know why they are called feminists since it seems they despise all things feminine. They just seem like really masculine women who hate the feminine identity of women and see it as weak and oppressed.

Most of them are middle class western white women who have more priveledge than 95% of the worlds female population. Maybe if they spent less time on hate fueled idealogue and transphobic arts and crafts they might actually do something for women's rights around the globe.

However I doubt they really care, most radicals in any shape or form are more interested in themselves and those small few exactly like them.

IMHO, when transgender peple get the same respect and equality as GLB folks,

I'm almost waiting for the day Brennan finally comes out to zirself as a transguy. (This was the first pic I'd seen of zir. My trans son would probably be jealous of how well Brennan passes already).

I also have to confess that I only became aware of Brennan, at all, in the past few months. Seem's like a bad parody of some of the most extreme overstatements made decades ago, from which many of the original authors seemed to have moderated their own positions. Being loud doesn't make you a movement or an influential activist.  It would be interesting to do a survey of feminists in general to see how many are aware of, and how many are careful to distance themselves from what I've seen of Brennan's postitions.
