A number of years ago, I was near a sudden, very loud noise. It left me with a high pitched buzz, tinitus, which has bothered me ever since. But I just learned to live with it, adapting as I went along.
I tested it and discovered it was around 2 KHz. It has gotten louder as time passed. It almost disappears when other sounds are present, such a talking.
A few months ago, visiting my GP for a regular thing. Mentioned the tinitus. He referred me to the audiology dept of my local hospital. Just been today and had a small gadget fitted with continually hisses, but very quietly.
The tinitus went off like a light. Amazing.
Now I can't stop smililg. So I look like someone who has just found the cure for tinitus.
On our way out, we passed by a small stall run by the WRVS. Usual second hand paperbacks and such. Then I spotted this wall mirror. It beautiful. Just the right size. Dark with some golden trim Price on it was five bucks.
My wife, bless her, pulls out 5 quid and I go to buy it. The lady accepts the cash we exchange the usual small chat.
Then at that point where I would normally turn to leave, I stop. Not deliberately or purposefully, but something is missing.
The buzz. I can't quite believe the silence. The lady looks at me as if I want something else. Tries some more small talk. I ignore her but stand there with this glazed smile on my face.
I'm gonna need to get used to this thing. But it's really quite amazing.
Now I', gonna listen to some music, see how that goes.
