there's a lot of heavy conversation in this forum, so I thought I'd try to make a fun thread.

I get really down sometimes about various stuff trans related and otherwise, but good music can always bring my mood up a notch.  Has anyone heard anything new that is really good? All genres work.

I'm probably behind and a lot of people know about this band, but Alt-j is pretty freaking fantastic:

Also, I will unabashedly admit I've listed to the Macklemore album several times.

I'm really into Built to Spill right now.

I do have a Lastfm and a Rate Your Music page. Don't know if I can post those.

Green Day are my ultimate favorite. Their music always helps me. One of my guilty pleasures is one direction. I know that they're the typical boy band but their music just cheers me up. Gangman style also cheers me up and puts me in a good mood. Another feel good album is now 83, especially mumford and sons, I will wait.

I've been really into Snatam Kaur lately, I think she's just amazing.

I also really like all sorts of folk, Natalie MacMaster, Alyth McCormick are great. I've also been listening to the Sacred Spirit albums () on youtube while studying. I can't study while listening to stuff in English.

I also like Silversun Pickups and Mumford and Sons.

Edit: Sorry, didn't mean to embed that video, not sure how to unembed it.

Oh, I've heard that song a few times but didn't know the artist, thanks for linking it.

My ultimate go-to-band of all time has to be The Levellers.  Yeah they're very much before my time but they have the same views on a lot of things as me, and remind me of the man who helped me more and was more fatherly than my father in the year we were talking.  If I'm feeling down I'll stick their music on and by the end of the hour I'll be trying to play guitar again.  The song the quote in my sig is from is:

Nick Drake is something for if I'm feeling down, or if I want to hear some amazing guitar work, and R.E.M. is pretty much good for anything.

More modern stuff, I'm not sure.  Hawthorne Heights (okay not that modern), Imagine Dragons and Ed Sheeran all figure pretty highly.

Anything by Simon Curtis!  Two of my favorites by him:

Other good songs are "Diablo", "Joystick", and "Joshua".  I haven't heard a song by him that I haven't liked.

Built to Spill is always one of those bands that seems like something I would like if I gave it a chance. Any particular album you recommend?

Do you like Pavement at all? Sorta the same epoch of music, though not really the same sound.  Low-fi minimalist rock with lyrics that read like whimsical poetry- if you check them out, judge them on something other than "Cut Your Hair."

I like pavement. I have "Crooked Rain Crooked Rain" and their greatest hits.

As for built to spill, check out "Perfect from now on".

I'm mainly into classic rock, but I do like a fair share of alternative and indie. Then there are times when only classical will do, times for smooth jazz, or maybe some edgy hard rock song. Though around certain people I become more of a fan of icelandic death metal and dubstep. Though that's mainly for conversation- the other music is literally what my soul is comprised of. With a streak of 90's music added, and by that I mean RHCP, with some Incubus and the like.

As an afterthought, I have some fondness of barbershop quartets and music hailing from that era.

...Ah, screw it. I like most pre-disco music, and some post-disco. Just not nearly as much stuff.

I'm into 80's goth, postpunk and such music. And a lot of other stuff as well, but mainly goth-postpunk-type stuff.

Here's just some random tidbits I happen to enjoy.

Classic rock rules my life: The Beatles, The Who, Dire Straits, Neil Young, Zeppelin, Little Feat, The Velvet Underground, and David Bowie, just a few of the many artists I really enjoy.

I'm not picky about genres or anything, there's something I like in any category, but that's what I'm mostly interested in. As for modern stuff I'm pretty into Deerhunter right now.

I've been obsessed with Maroon 5 lately, which is a little less "hard rock" than what I usually like. Adam Levine is divine. <3

I will totally back you up about one direction and gangnam style :D

My latest music obsession is Adam Lambert, he was on pop idol or x-factor or something of the sort...I didn't watch it, I just heard a song ages later and found out he was a reality TV show guy. His songs are so catchy and he has a beautiful voice. I love that he is gay and writes songs that reflect that....not in an in your face political message sort of way, just that he uses "he" instead of "she" in his love songs. A lot of gay artists don't do that, and it always bugged me.

What happened to me ::) I was a metal head in my youth

When I was younger, I was all about the oldies.  Still like them a little bit, but lately I've been more into the pop punk-- Green Day, Sum 41, etc.  Basically anything fast with a good beat and an "it's my life and I'm not going to live it the way you want and I'm proud of that fact" message.

A few I've been listening to a lot the past few weeks:

Fat Lip-- Sum 41

And of course the old stand by:

*side note:  I can't figure out how to embed the youtube videos.  Can anyone help?
In between the lines there's a lot of obscurity.

I grew up listening Green Day, and at home I'm always chilling in my Green Day shirt  :D

Five awesome points to you, good sir! In fact, I currently got hooked on a series just because the commercial used The Real Me in it. I got to see that live, and it was one of the greatest things ever.

The Who changed my life. I was raised on the Beatles, but when I discovered The Who at age 13 I had never heard anything like them before. They've been my favorite band ever since, and have led me on an awesome musical journey. My best friend caught their Quadrophenia tour a couple months ago and I was so jealous. He admitted he started sobbing when they showed an old clip of Keith Moon drumming... hell, I don't blame him. Reminds me of the time I saw Bob Dylan in 2008 and the guy next to me was crying so hard while his girlfriend was just like "Welp..." :D
