I just watched "Red Without Blue" about the identical twins where one of them is trans and the other is gay, and about how their lives and relationships change over several years, it was pretty well done. The trans twin Claire says (paraphrasing) "I wasn't born a man or a woman, instead the process of changing was the path I was born into," which I could identify with really well and I thought was really well said.

I also watched "American Transgender" the National Geographic one that spotlights three different trans people, including Claire from Red Without Blue, and it was all right. One of them said, "I'm willing to be me regardless of the consequences" which I think sums it up for many of us.

Any other good trans documentaries anyone can recommend?

dang gwen haworth is Cool As Hell and also is attractive?  you should watch it.  the title made me a lil skeeved out but it actually ended up being pretty excellent.

'Trans the movie' follows about 6 trans people around thru various stages of their transitions. One is a trans girl about 7. Interviews some well-known trans people and professionals.  Very heavy as there is a whole section on Transgender Day of Remembrance.
"Call me Malcolm" is about a trans guy who is also a pastor for a UCC church. Becoming a pastor figures but isn't the whole thing. I really like this one. Might also be good for new parents.
"Transsexual Summer" was a UK TV documentary. Great job.
"Transgeneration" is somewhat similar. Follows a few college kids around. Was a cable TV show in the U.
I think most of these can be found on youtube except for "Trans the Movie".

I enjoyed watching "Transamerica". It's lighter and funnier than a documentary.

Just seen, Trans The Movie.  Worth the effort to see.

Tomboy (French subtitles) and Romeos (German subtitles.) Both are about gender identity, they are fictional films. Tomboy is about a younger kid who presents as male to his friends after moving with parents...->-bleeped-<- goes down decent watch. Romeos is about an FTM who moves to a new town and is in the military or something and he falls for a gay guy. good movies.

I didn't see Romeo, but saw Tomboy. Yeah it's fiction but quite a realistic portrayal of a transboy, I thought. I recognized myself in a couple scenes (watching boys play) and also in looking at myself coming out of a tub (Yes it is French, there is child nudity). The ending was quite upsetting to me though and could really bother someone, I was told about it and so was more prepared.

Another one no one mentioned is "Boy I am". I didn't like the butches they interviewed (seemed pretty angry but nothing hateful) but the trans people were pretty cool. Can't think of the UK one I saw with a guy named Johnny and his mom. This woudl be a great one for parents, she is very cool and comes to terms with it in a very neat way.

I had alot of movies I enjoyed, Romeos, ma vie en rosa, beutifull boxer, is some of them.

for documentary I like "sex lies and gender" its not about transexuals but more about gender in general and they also mention transexuals.

I can mostly give you titles I don't recommend. For various reasons, I didn't like Transgeneration or Boy I Am. I can tell you my reasons if you want. I also saw the one on Robert Eads--Southern Comfort. It made me angry because I felt that it left out too much and made it look like Eads did everything he could to improve his situation. I think he probably had more control over his situation but failed to exercise it...but I can't know for sure because of the obvious bias of the documentary. Don't show that one to allies or especially parents; it will make them paranoid about your health.

I've seen a few older documentaries, the kind that used to pop up on the Discovery Channel every now and then. They're pretty outdated.

I've heard good things about Call Me Malcolm, but I haven't seen it. I don't expect to...I'm not interested in trans documentaries or even fictional films anymore. It's weird because I still come here.

tomboy did trigger me some too (dysphoria). so yeah if you do decide to watch it have that in mind. spoiler alert:  i especially didnt like the way the mom took him around in a dress to show neighbors he was born female.

Oh yeah, Southern Comfort is wonderful, but very sad. I love his bunch of trans friends he hangs with. I'd love to see it again, because now I have trans friends it would be interesting to compare our lives.

Tomboy-- triggering, that's the word I was looking for. If I saw it again, I would watch the first hour and then turn it off. It was so upsetting how his mom shamed him with the dress. The other thing I did NOT like the ending at all, and thought it implied he was all good with his mom outting him and so on.

I saw this one called "Age 8 and wanting a sex change" which was pretty cool. The kids in it are so lucky! 

I found one when looking around called Gendernauts, I have not watched it yet though.
