I find that having a calendar with a months + of workouts scheduled is quite motivating; but I am also a type A personality so if I don't do something that is scheduled I feel bad.

I think there's other guys who don't work out consistently who are on T, just do what feels right for you.

p90x is easy to follow and builds strength while still including cardio.  You can find a list of the exercises online if you don't want to buy the DVDs.  You need a set of dumbells or resistance bands, and a pull-bar up you can put into a doorway.  If you don't have the stuff yet you can ease into it and just do the body weight exercises that don't use the bar.

I had no idea how to exercise at all and like it because it holds your hand throughout the entire thing and just tells you what to do. It is rough at first though. I had never worked out before, so I started with this guy's list before p90x:

I like this stuff because endless mindless cardio doesn't seem to get you anywhere quickly, and I don't want to do anything with free weights at a gym yet.

I second P90x (and also Insanity, by the same company, which is more high-intensity cardio based - real good for lean muscle).

Right now I mix up P90x workouts with days of running, boxing or hiking...so I don't follow their schedule, I sort of pick and choose. It does get results though if you're diligent :)

Well, for motivation you really have to get to the point where you want more than anything to see the benefits exercising can have on your physical body. Or to just want to improve your health (in other words, you don't have to have the drive of a body builder, just really want to be healthy/make changes).

Finding something you actually think is fun and not a chore is also very helpful. For me, I can't go to a gym and do some bland circuit workout. I can't sit on an exercise bike because I just am bored to tears. I'm also not into hour long workouts (been seeing more and more info that extended workouts are more detrimental than helpful and it's really short burst stuff that is beneficial).

Lately, my workout schedule is like this:
- qigong in the morning for about 30 min (I do this every day)
- after work I do a short session of boxing with a heavy bag (7-10min) then I will do either upper body or lower body stuff (I alternate the days on that) that includes things like: planks (especially planks on an exercise ball), assisted sit ups (and side sit ups), weight exercises for lats, triceps and biceps, squats, mountain climbers, lunges and calf raises. the workouts last about 20-30 min so I get through the exercises pretty quickly.

It's enough variety that I don't get bored with it and I actually find the qigong and boxing to be fun.

Personally I like to mark my work outs off on a calender. Then if I miss a day or two, I get all squirrely because the month is off.  :P And competition. Pick some guys you like that are in muscly good shape and get into a personal competition. Beat those suckers!

Yes, competition is helpful too. My friend at work and I are on the same workout schedule, so if I don't keep on track, she'll get ahead of me, and that would be disappointing.

My motivation is increase in strength gain. I keep a workout log where I write down each exercise, each set and reps I am able to do. Every single week my reps and amount of weight increase at a steady pace, that keeps me motivated.

I use apps I've downloaded to my iPad from the App store.

10 minutes of cardio

10 minutes of strength workout

20 minutes of yoga

It will make the slow and steady sort of difference.  I'm generally in good shape now so I'm just trying to gain muscle.  It's just part of my daily routine so literally I do it out of habit.  For me it's easier when I can workout in my pajama bottoms and not have to worry about driving to a gym.

I am 2 years on T and don't work out. No big deal.

I'm 10 months on T and it's only recently I started even trying...I actually worked out a lot more as a "girl" than I do on T.

But I'm with everyone who says get someone, a friend, partner, whatever to go with you. I have a friend who is in really good shape, and she's kindly offered to do her workouts with me...so...the days I feel less motivated, I feel pressured because I know her workouts are important to her and I don't want to ruin hers by being lazy.

You wouldn't ruin them! I would just do them without you  >:-) . They are just better with you there. And Josh the best thing to do is just find something you enjoy. I like to run because it gives me a way clear my thoughts, smell fresh air, and feel invigorated. I have some weights that I use just because I like trying to look toned.

Took me 6 months on T to get myself together. What I've discovered is that you won't get inspired by people telling you to work out, or mildly thinking you feel like you should work out. You got to feel it deep down in your being. After dealing with all the BS surrounding my top surgery and coming out strong, I've been taking better care of myself. My motivations were: Wanting to get fit for awhile, wanting to be the best I can be, wanting to be fit for my top surgery and being inspired to get fit now so I can serve my city when the time comes that I go into the law force.

Some tricks though that I've found: Set a time. I keep my free weight under my bed and every night I put on my T gel, take a multivitamin and B12 vitamin and then I go and I go through my weight lifting routine. I also work in some push-ups, sit ups and resistance stuff while I'm at it, then I got to sleep!

Recently I've also begun going for walks every day for 20-25 minutes (I'm out of shape so walking is all I can do at the moment). I downloaded an app, Get Running, which is really inspiring me and I started a new blog all about getting fit and living healthy. I think all of these things, the accessibility of my weights, setting a time, starting a blog and getting a coaching app have all inspired me to keep at it.

You can do it, but you need to find the inspiration within yourself =)

Also! I forgot the most important thing: Set short term goals for yourself! Like This month I'll list 10 pounds, by next month I want to get to 15 pounds, then 18 pounds, then 20 and so on. Hitting those goals does so much for ones self-esteem and motivation. I want to do a 3k run in several months, that's my mid-term goal, my short term goals? The Get Running app sets those for me, Run 1 minute 8x, run 1 1/2 minutes 8x, run 10 minutes straight, run 15 minutes straight. I tell you I get so excited at the though of reaching every single one of those goals and that keeps me going out there, even in minus 20 weather!

im not on t yet and that makes me feel less motivated to workout cause if i dont see results i dont think anything i changing which is not true obviously but thats where my heads at. I just got a pull up bar and resistance bands a few das ago and am easing myself into working out by doing 15 mins when ever i start to feel restless since im unemployed at the moment the day is very longs so i can get maybe 3 sessions of this cause im trying to build endurance and not pressure myself. my aim is to get some arm definition and maybe abs before i start t in a couple months and get fit.

i would advise you to listen to your body, my body is screaming that i need to work out so im listening to it in a more manageable way

I'm a year in and I only just started a regular routine. The first year was mostly just weight loss and diet change. A good rule of thumb I have found for me is that it takes about 14-21 days of consistent activity to make something a habit. I still feel like slacking but I just force my through it.

Just remember that working out is great, but about 70% of your results will be a result of your diet.   There are many plans out there for diets and what ratios of macro-nutrients are recommended for fat loss and muscle gain.  A lot of people now days over eat by eating way too many calories and their ratios involve a very low protein, even if they drink protein shakes because some of them are high in carbs.

Biggest tip, stay away from fast food and try to shop for groceries on the outer isles of the store.  That is where you find the fresh meats, veggies, etc.  Processed foods are bad for the most part.

On a side note, if anybody is a member of Beachbody or plans to be I would love to have you as a friend, please feel free to PM me.  I would love to know have more folks I can compare my results and speed bumps with.

Cheers!
