I think people think that eating an opossum is creepy because they look like large rats. I used to have a Belgian Schipperke, they kill rats. This dog suffocated two large Opossums in my back yard thinking they were rats.
Or because they're cute.
I generally have an aversion to eating cute things.
@ Devlyn: I don't think it was putting someone's lifestyle down anymore than saying you* won't eat dog because you* think dogs are pets. Or horses. Or rabbits. Or cats. And yet plenty of people in a variety of cultures eat those critters. I personally won't eat those critters [except to try it because I'll try just about anything once, but it won't become a habit] due to viewing them as pets. I won't eat baby animals, either, on the grounds they're babies [veal, lamb, etc. are
not allowed in my home or mouth though I have tried them for the reason stated earlier...well, except for veal, but I know about the cruel treatment they receive prior to being killed]. However, other people can eat if they want. I just won't agree with the decision.
