Now I just have to get the paperwork in the mail for a hearing! So excited!

Congratulations.  ;D ;D ;D

I got my name changed near the end of last year, the initial names I wanted I would not get but the lady who handled it was amazing and helped me sort it out, and quickly aswell.

It was a amazing change for me, I no longer had two names, one that I used when I was around people, and another when it came to more offical business.

So again, big congratulations.

Thats awesome!  ;D When I changed my name I just had to go to their office, hand in my paper work and pay the fee. Then about a week later I got my new certificates in the mail.

Congrats! It's a great feeling and makes life so much easier when your documents get changed.

Congrats!

I want to do this so bad...everything at my university is electronic and tied to my birth name. Homework submissions, email address, rosters. So after introducing myself as one name, I pretty much have to bring up the old name if people want to email me or anything. Awkwaaaaard.

Thanks all!

My university is the same. I can't wait to change everything.

I just went in and turned in the forms and paid the fee and I'm waiting on all my paperwork to come in the mail so I can go to my court date.

Oh I just did this (I'm almost finished, just got my social insurance left). It's such a pain in the butt lol. I recommend making a list, if you haven't already, of all the things that need changing. Given I also changed my gender on everything while I was at it, but it's taken a while o_O But it's so much fun, i'm happy for you mate! I love telling people my name and having to sign for stuff.

Grats! I did mine last year, and it is so much better when you can start flashing pieces of paper with a gender-appropriate name on them. :)

Congrats man.

I'm planning on doing this soon, though I had surgery in January and still haven't done it... I'm mostly just nervous to get it going since I don't know what I'm doing lol

What state do you live in Wolf Man? I've found basically step-by-step guides on changing your name for 2 different states, there's probably one out there for your state if you can find a state-specific trans website for where you live.

I live in Southern California. A step-by-step would be great because I've found the forms and I've found the court house I need to go to, but I haven't a clue on what I do there. I'm not the type to jump into things and just play it by ear either.

Sorry for going off topic btw.

Here you go: http://www.lgbt.ucla.edu/transresources.html#Legal     That's an expensive filing fee, they really get you there in CA.

Edit: BTW, clerks or their assistants are usually really helpful (just don't go about an hour before they close, or on Fridays  :P ). They're not allowed to give legal advice, but for anything else, they're usually willing to hold your hand and walk you through things.
