What makes you feel 'free'?

Joe.

I may be alone in this, but there are certain things I do that make me feel free. Free from pain, free from emotions, just free and I feel truly happy. For me it is travelling, even just a train or bus journey to somewhere I haven't been before, it must be public transport though, cars don't work, flying - it makes me feel disconnected from the world and all the pain I feel here on Earth, being above it in the clouds makes me feel free and the last one is skateboarding. I can't do tricks but just skating along makes me feel free.

What makes you feel free?

Probably reading is the one activity I engage in most often that makes me feel "free" (though I've never thought of it in quite that way until considering the question...).
I ain't scared... I just don't want to mess up my hair.

Day dreaming, music, watching movies and tv shows, etc although I suppose that's more escapism than being free.

Walking at night through my neighborhood, there's a part where the houses are facing the "wilderness".  Especially in the winter, with the cold air hitting your face, no people, ipod, the desert to one side of you and the city lights in the horizon make me feel so free!

I'm loving all of your answers. They're all so simple yet imagining them in my mind makes me feel so relaxed. Keep them coming.

You know I've been feeling free ever since I went full time back in 2008.  I've never looked back and feel like I am living life on my terms now.

Waking up on a Saturday or the start of a week off, laying in bed and just feeling the hours ahead I have for my own purposes.

I love taking public transport.  I haven't taken it "just because" yet, but hopefully I will one day.

Writing and listening to music makes me feel free, but more importantly video games make my feel free.  It allows me to channel my frustrations.

Kia Ora Joey,

First and foremost it would be "meditation" for me this is true freedom !

However on a more mundane level, helping others solve their problems-I am 'free' from the problems they are facing...

I guess being free from problems such as not having the essentials like clean drinking water, food and a roof over my head.. Having these in a sense brings a  feeling of freedom 'from'...

I love to go hiking into the local mountains.  Or spending the day along a lonely, craggy coastline.  I have a couple of hot spring locations that are pretty secluded, even in southern California - a long day's hike in and out.

Nature is my church.  Freedom is the air I breath.

I love bird-watching! I don't really go out and do it anymore, but I see plenty from my backyard - we back up to a State Park and, while I haven't done a tally (I really need to), I've certainly gone over the century mark on my list (I also count them if I see them in the air from my yard).

Traveling. Driving or riding to anywhere. Feeling the breeze, smelling the various smells, meeting different people, hot coffee at rest areas, the wide open sky, sounds of nature hitting to the core of instincts. It all has this freedom about it that I feel I can just breathe in and let everything that is worrying me out.
Watching the birds made me feel like taking a journey. The people, the landscapes, everything was imperfect but beautiful.

Videogames make me feel free because I can forget my problems for hours on end & save the world/universe.

The best feeling of being free is being on a narrowboat floating along at the sedate speed of 3mph, you're out of touch with the dramas of modern life as the world drifts by & takes your burdens away.
All I have to do is step onto a boat & as I feel it bob in the water I feel calm, at peace & free.
Whenever i've been on a boating holiday i've even managed to not think about my dysphoria for the entire week or two, one day when i'm older i'd like to sell my worldly possessions & live on a boat until the day I die, I would truly die full of happiness & contentment.
It's good to have a dream

Video games for me too; particularly role-playing games where I can play a character that is closer to my true self than my current physical presentation. The same is true for reading or writing.

Also, I like spending time by myself. The fact that I'm married with children makes my transition much more complicated. Soon-To-Be-Ex-Hubby finds it very painful when I do anything to confirm my gender, such as buying men's clothing, getting my hair cut, or even using my name. He responds very negatively and that hurts me too. So I try to limit these activities to times when he's not around. I'm going to do them anyway, but I don't want to cause him pain - and I don't want his pain to cause me pain either.
