Do I get to wear a hat?
You get to wear any hat you please. 'Cept one that says "Allscripts." Or "Cerner."

Epic, like the game company? I'd love an internship there :D (studying entertainment art at art center right now) so if ever the need arises, keep me in mind ;D

No, Epic like the clinical application hospitals use to keep track of your patient records. It's quickly becoming the industry standard across the States. I happen to work for a hospital that's migrating over to it.

hm. that's a funny name for a hospital system. alright, done derailing.

Hi ZoeM,

Have you looked at the Sentillion application (bought last year by Microsoft) for providing SSO in the Hospital sector. It has APIs into EPIC, Cerner, Allscripts, McKesson, ISOft and the like.

OK my secrets out - I am too in the software business.

I unfortunately drive a tractor trailer in a regional position, oddly I want to work in IT, I am working on that, but at least I can pay my bills. I worry a bit about the conservative culture there, but the things I have done already towards my transition haven't mattered because I don't really have to deal with bosses, mainly just a computer or people over the phone, and I have no real appearance standard in my handbook.

I work for a health insurance company as a lead for web related projects. I'm a remote employee, so don't have to much interaction with other colleagues, which might have advantages if I ever decide to transition. Definitely not out at work yet.

I am a consultant for the engineering industry and I maintain offices at five different firms, and I teach on occasion as well.

I have several degrees in varying disciplines (four related to engineering), four of which are doctorates. Yes, I am a prodigy. I started university when I was fourteen and I have Aspergers as well. Being from Canada, I am protected on two fronts, firstly, for being on the Autism Spectrum and, secondly, for being transgendered. Companies try to avoid human rights tribunals at all costs, here. It's bad publicity and a drain on resources.

I was given a few strange looks when I told people that I was transgendered and a few people decided they didn't want to talk to me anymore. That didn't last long, though, because they needed me to sign off on their work. They've all seems to come around to accepting it in some way as best as I can tell. My appearance is quite androgynous. I don't wear skirts at all, so I don't stick out in that fashion, but on occasion I will wear dress crops or something similarly feminine and no one says anything unless some of the females say they look nice or want to know where I purchased them. The tops I wear are relatively unisex and don't draw much attention. Even if I wear a feminine top, my breasts aren't big enough to be noticed; it looks like I have pectorals. No one stares. I'm treated like a normal person. The men still treat me like "one of the guys" and the women treat me like a woman. I don't think many people care, really. I still get invited out to the various functions, most of which I decline, but nothing has really changed. Maybe the fact that I lack social awareness plays a factor, but I haven't noticed anything other than the women being extra nice to me now.

EDIT:

I'm also allowed to use whichever washroom I choose. I use the women's washroom ninety-eight percent of the time with no objections.

Gee..Girl...and I thought I was the the prodigy! I only have 2 doctorates and a master....

I work for a very, very, very large, company. I wear many hats, but the main one is to "push" new technology. My company had and has polices supporting transgender employees. I am not the only one to have transition on the job. I have been in my real gender for over 2 years now..not a single problem...I am scheduled to be promoted this year or next year...I love my company and my job! :-*

@ those with humble jobs...I started as a farm laborer..next I graduate to automobile mechanic..etc. etc...."hold on to your dreamas" and never give up!!

@ those who do not belive it...sit on it... >:-)

I'm currently retired, so every day is Saturday for me now and I'm loving it! I've worn eleven different hats in my working lifetime, starting out as a house framer, a foreign car mechanic, truck driver, general contractor home builder, lumber and hardware center manager, independent property claims adjuster just to name a few from start to finish. I have always been quick to reinvent myself when I tired of one occupation.

I have those four pieces of paper with my name on them, but I prefer to maintain my relative anonymity on the internet instead of plastering my name where it can be seen by all and thereby linking it to personal and professional contact information. If you choose not to believe me, that is your choice. I have nothing to prove to you.

That is smart. I could never understand why so many people will plaster absolutely every single detail of their life on the internet.

Friggin' morons.

You are absolutely right about not having to prove anything to anyone. Screw them.

I work for the government as the human rights lawyer.. I have not talked yet with my colleagues but as I am accepting my self and feeling liberated other girls keep asking me what is going on with me :P. And I really hope that all those values we are standing here for will remain valid in respect of ourselves too, that I wont be treated on double standards and get dumped.

In case you do not know, Sammy
