Yesterday I found out that I might be having the first stage of phalloplasty this summer. I never in my wildest dreams thought this could happen. My parents spoke with Dr. Crane and my phone consult is on april 3rd.

I can't believe this. I had my fingers crossed hoping I could just get my hysto this summer (which we are going to try to schedule a few months beforehand).

I'm not sure if insurance will cover it, they said they'd cover the hysto, but if they don't my grandfather offered to pay.

This is all so crazy. It doesn't even feel real.

That's great news!  Dr. Crane is one of those doctors that I've been keeping my eye on, but I've only seen one result of his and haven't heard much from his patients.  If you go further with him then feel free to share your experience with us if you want to.

I had my phone consult with Dr. Crane in February and he is a very nice guy. His staff so far has been exceptional in regards to figuring out my insurance coverage and what not. He is booking into May 2014 right now and he should have pictures and everything by the end of April from the procedures he is currently performing. Good luck!

mangoslayer, which precedure will have with Dr. Crane?  What all does he do with the first stage?

I just found out that I can't have my first stage of phalloplasty this summer, Dr. Crane is booked until 2014 with phallo, but i can have metoidioplasty this summer and then have phallo. They said it would make my future phallo much shorter and easier. I'll have to think a little more into this and do a little more research since I have never really wanted meta. Now that I would be having it as the first step and then having phallo Im considering it. I'm just not sure if it's worth another surgery. It'll definitely take more thought. If I don't get meta first I will still be having phallo as soon as I can.

Well 2014 isn't that far away, so if you wanted to skip the meta and just wait, it shouldn't be too bad, and it'll give you more time to grow downstairs right?

That is awesome. I'm always stoked to hear about guys who are going for bottom surgery and finally have it lined up.

It's not that far away, but I have really bad dysphoria. I'm just going to have to decide whether a whole nother surgery is worth the amount of dysphoria it will prevent.

Personally I would try to wait it out till 2014.  It's going to be incredibly taxing on you both physically and mentally to heal from one surgery and then have another right after.

yeah, and you are having it paid for. I think a little patience isn't all that hard to muster when you see all that's being given to you option wise.

mangoslayer Are you saying Dr Crane can do a meto this summer but you need to wait until next summer for a phallo with him?  I would have to think hard about getting a meto while knowing I could get a phallo in another year.  Going through all of the pain and expense two years in a row is also something to consider.

Congratulations on the great news!
If I were you, Id wait till I just got the phallo instead of the meta first. Its alot of money, time, effort and resources if youre definitely going to just get the phallo soon after anyway. Also, surgery is very taxing on the body, so itd be kinder to yourself to lessen what your body goes through, if you can.

Again, congratulations :)
