Annette Funicello, Mouseketeer and Beach Movie Actress, Dies at 70

Annette Funicello, who won America's heart as a 12-year-old in Mickey Mouse ears, captivated adolescent baby boomers in slightly spicy beach movies and later championed people with multiple sclerosis, a disease from which she suffered, died on Monday in Bakersfield, Calif. She was 70.

She will be missed.  I spent many an afternoon watching her and the other mouseketeers.

My thoughts exactly.

I count myself fortunate that I was able to watch the original Mouseketers in 1976, when it was aired again (as a prelude to the new Mouseketers). Simpler times...
...I think for most of us it is a futile effort to try and put this genie back in the bottle once she has tasted freedom...

Me too  :)  LOL... I also remember my whole family going on a freaker and explaining all the reasons why I never could when I mentioned it during a show  :o

Somthing similar that I put on another forum.  Annette was in the first The Mickey Mouse Club series cancelled in 1959 by the ABC network.  I have seen probably the last of the "new" shows, the rest were in syndication reruns that the local kiddie shows in the early 1960's put on in the afternoons after school.  I did catch her in the beach movies with Frankie Avalon at the local theater.  Yes. I did notice her, despite my youth and gender dysphoria.  Even in those beach movies, she portrayed the clean cut image that Walt Disney had in his cartoons, shows and movies back then.
