I'm kind of worried at the moment, since I have no job (I been looking so hard for a waiter job), not going to college, and not doing anything with my life. In reality, it's been like this for a year now, since I am complete flake about my college education. I don't think I have it within me to complete a 4 year degree anymore, nor do I have any passion for it. I really want a career that pays me at least 20 k a yr, and I can go out once in a while and not worry about things.

I kind I want to become a hairstylist or a tattoo artist, and I can start beauty school this fall at my local college which is great and all. There's a stable amount of money, but there's no room for me to grow and become great at it.

I use to be an artist, and so becoming an apprentice for tattoos seems great, but I look at my art... it's not up to par to the very best in the industry. It's better than say 40% though, but I want to be the best in any profession I choose. I'm afraid of this industry though and not making enough money.  My plan of thought is to go become a apprentice, and really work on my art non-stop, so I could produce awesome work. I know my art is good enough to get in right now.

I just don't want to waste any more time.

you think I should check out the tattoo apprentice thing, and if it fails, go to beauty school??? I'm just so unsure.

Which one I would be happiest at...
tattoo artist, just because I know I can become "well-known" if my art one day becomes great enough, and it seems more meaningful.

You can be great at either one, but it still will take years of training and practice. Pick what will make you happy, because you can be reasonably wealthy in either field. But both fields require you to perform on other people, so make sure you are comfortable with that.

As the case throughout the arts, most of the practitioners "starve."  If you become really good and really famous, you could make a bundle of money, in the right location.  If not, at least you will have a nice portfolio to look at.

Maybe for self proclaimed "fine" artists, but there is a ton if opportunity in practical arts. Design, fashion, illustration, etc. Tattoo artists can charge plenty, just like my stylist. I do very well as a graphic designer and I love what I do.

I didn't mean fame and fortune with tattoos. I just meant recognition within the industry.

I'm not looking to starve though lol. That's why I think being a tattoo artist is a very practical career, versus, painters.
