So I have been having this strong urge to write a book. :-\ basically a self biography of "my journey" I haven't really seen anything like it, but I figured that it would allow me to get some thoughts ou and at the same time offer encouragement to those afraid to start. I was planning on adopting a "stage" name as while I want to write this I don't want my actual name out in the open and of course I would change the names in the book as well to help respect privacy, basically I would be doing like Stephen king did as Richard Bachman . Idk, for sure so I was wanting opinions, so opinions? Also need help decided the " stage"  name , I was thinking may Cassandra Harper ??? so what does everyone think?

There's also _Bumbling Into Body Hair_, which is a pretty hilarious trans guy's autobiography. (But yeah, trans memoirs are not unheard of... though ones that don't focus on things like surgery and depression seem to be, to me.)

I have been there and still hope to publish something one day.  I started writing two non-fiction works, but never finished.  Damn my laziness.

At the end of the day, you really want to write something that will stand out in some way.  To get a publishers attention you really want to show that your work is marketable, eye grabbing, unique,  profitable or all of those combined.   While there is a lot of garbage that's published, there is a lot of great work that ends in the trash bin.  I think an autobiography of a transgender person is interesting and could be picked up.  However, keep in mind that this kind of a book would need to provide painful and personal details.  If you want people to learn about your journey, you will have to share some really important aspects about your life.  The best writer is one who discloses and bares all (in my opinion).  You need to show why the reader should care about you and your plight.  For a book like this to work, there needs to be uncomfortable intimate details.  Otherwise, it's a general biography that you could read anywhere about anyone.   Now you can do this sort of a book without disclosing your name, but in this day and age people are able to take obscure info together and pain a picture.  Therefore, it might be hard to keep your privacy while doing such a detailed work.  Maybe not, but realize nothing is ever certain and you will be taking a risk by publishing your story (even under another name).

On the OP, I wanted to add the suggestion that this type of work should be out there whether or not it is picked up by a publisher.  Both Apple and Amazon provide wonderful tools to help a writer self-publish in ebook format; you can charge for the work or provide it for free.  Of course, the hope is that you will be picked up by a major publisher and discover you've written a best-selling blockbuster... but please, whatever you do, don't be discouraged if your book is rejected by publishers, and please put the creation you've labored over out for the public.  You never know who you might help.  :)

I, too, am working on a writing project, but am uncertain as to whether they will be published.  In my case, I'm working on a sci-fi novel in which the female protagonist is, incidentally, a trans woman.  This is not made clear from the start, but is later revealed after she's shown to be a competent and capable woman, despite a certain aura of self-conciousness.  In a sub-plot, she is outed on the national level and forced to deal with the ramifications.

My hope is that it will stand on its own as good science fiction first, and then perhaps it will inspire cis and trans women to pursue the harder sciences.  Well, and to become a famous author and be able to support myself (and my eventual SRS) in the manner to which I would love to become accustomed.  :)

Please keep us posted on your progress!  :)
